This was rather good. Nice work!

Nice work I like it

Many will find multiple spots along the cocoon to strike at randomly and will continue to pressure these areas until something gives, their fervent struggling spurred on by their adolescent minds.

Adolescent minds? In children?

I am not a fan of hive-type headcanons. Especially hive-minds mostly because of the people that so oppresively force the idea upon people like me.

But you make it sound nice, almost poetic. Props on that.

Who is Chrysalis talking to?

In the end, the child’s horn is the lone drill that strikes forward and pierces the heavens with its might.

Gurren Lagnon reference, I see it:rainbowwild:

In the end, the child’s horn is the lone drill that strikes forward and pierces the heavens with its might.

:rainbowlaugh: You should really feel ashamed for that one.

All in all, I feel kind of... eh about this. I like the idea behind it well enough, but that pseudo-poetic style it lapses into in places just always makes me roll my eyes. The format just doesn't work for me at all. I think the whole thing would have worked better without that. I realize that it's supposed to give the impression of emotional, intense monologuing, but to me, the only thing that comes out the other end is purple prose. That description about the changeling hatching process was lovely, though.

Adolescent minds? In children?

Yes, perhaps that could have been worded significantly better.

6822611 JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!?

I do that quite a lot. Prose is something I seemingly can't get enough of.

Also, funny enough, the changeling hatching part was written eight hours before the rest, so that lapse in time may have affected my train of thought coming back to it.

6822252 To anyone who will listen.

Cryptic Shocks is cryptic.

This is pretty deep. I don't read enough changeling fics, though.

A very good story about how the hive mind in Changelings works.

Okay, this was great! My only qualm is that it would have been better if the lament was directed as a message to someone, and if that situation was more clear to the reader. Possibly Chrysalis is in a dungeon when Twilight comes to visit and she says this? That would also tie in to the cover art...

In all honesty, I think I would've enjoyed it more if the rest of the story had followed that format. There's nothing wrong with what it says, content-wise, but I'm not really one for that whole stream-of-consciousness thing.

Awwww, 30-0 flawless ruined.

#c-c-combobreaker:raritydespair:

6823293 Thanks.

6823215 I'd advise to dig around some more, there are others far better than mine.

6826178 When can we expect the results, if you don't mind me asking?

I have to say I'm a fan of emotional monologues, and this really tickled my reading sweet spot.

The idea of changelings and how they function, how they exist and thrive has always been a juicy topic to dive into. With the fact that they survive by feeding on love, you'd think that would slide them towards a hero species paradigm; they'd put their talents to use by helping ponies (or other species for that matter) in order to win their affections. Yet in the show canon they were introduced as villains, complete with the signature 'evil plot to take over the world'.

Now I will admit that I love me some classic 'evil, because evil' villains. But I also enjoy stories like this one, stories that show the possible other side to those villains and why instead of evil, they're simply... different.
...

Also, I know everyone's already saying it, but... Gurren Lagenn reference!

6829964 I'm glad it peaked your interest.

In the end, the child’s horn is the lone drill that strikes forward and pierces the heavens with its might.

I nearly missed that reference. Shame, do you speak it?

However...
All in all...
A magnificent look into the Changeling existence.
IT's rather lovely, actually. =)

There's a feeling.

It is hard to describe at times. It is happy, and it is sad, and sometimes, it can be nostalgic.
It needs a name. A name...

I think I will call it pity.

6843823 Good. Good. Let the pity flow through you.

This is one of the most amazing stories that I have ever read, and I think that you should know it.
I give to you my Holy Muffin. You've earned it.
Yours,
~Spirit

Interesting...

A small trail of water eased its way down her cheek, finally dropping onto the unforgiving earthen floor without notice.

Strange.

She didn’t think the rain made it down here.

And yet, even at her lowest point, her pride still burns strong. Well played.

Strange.

She didn’t think the rain made it down here.

I'm dead.
