Twilight's letter to Angst really outlines my problem with Luna's exaggerated level of self-loathing. The only pony who really suffered because of NMM was Celestia, the rest is just hypotheticals about how life in Equestria might've been better with two princesses at once. That flashback in Princess Twilight Sparkle really did fuck the NMM lore up by showing how quickly it ended. It was even useless to that episode's story so it should've just been cut altogether IMO. Even if it was cool to see.

So unless her prior refusal to lower the Moon was just temporary and she capitulated on the matter beforehand, the major effects of her coup really did last about two or three minutes(assuming the flashback is literal).
