Starlight Glimmer has been living with Twilight in the weeks since the whole time travel incident. Twilight went to Canterlot for a couple of days so Starlight used this time to sort through some of her feelings and think about how things will be going forwards. But no matter how she tries there's one question she can't quite understand. How did she change my mind when nopony else could?

6748554 I tend to prefer longer reads that are well put together. I can't really explain it, just the kind of story that takes on a life of its own. Characterization matters a lot to me so I hope I did a good job with the characters I wrote. Admittedly there was a bit of backtracking and polishing from the original but I'm pretty happy with the end result.
If you're asking about genre I tend to prefer to read ship fics or fics that feature a ship at their core. I like comedies and adventure as well. I usually enjoy longer fics because they allow more room for building up plot and characters. Fallout Equestria is at the top of my list. I sometimes have difficulty reading grimdark stories or stories meant to be just sad as opposed to just having low points or difficulties that are eventually overcome by the characters or at least have some purpose in setting up for a bigger overall plot point rather than just being there to depress people. I'm not trying to discount those genres entirely and I'm sure they have their merit, I just don't see it or connect with them well.

7634490 so this is really kind of for everyone who reads and enjoys this fic. I'm not gonna abandon it, I'm in (community) college right now and working and currently have a lot of excuses to procrastinate. I am working on the next chapter, but progress has been slow. The biggest problem I think is that I just figured things out as I went instead of planning ahead and I expected a longer hiatus between season 5 and season 6 and had fewer ideas about how Starlight's reformation would change her.
Now I have too many having seen the episodes of the newest season so I'm trying to get back to get back to the character I gave Starlight so that I can develop her my way (I have no intentions to retcon any prior development I've done with this version of Starlight). Of course it'll still be a while before the next chapter is released, I might've marked this story as on hiatus if I'd known how much life and my own laziness would get in the way or if I had a better opinion of the Hiatus status. Hiatus just feels like a cancellation waiting to happen and I refuse to let this story end until I deem it complete.
All that said, I'm perfectly willing to accept help, be it reference material (clean fics you've enjoyed that are similar to this one in some way or another), general comments about where you think I should go from here, or writing tips/criticism of the fic as it stands now. Feel free to tell me what you like about the fic so far, what you think could be improved, or offer support as these are greatly appreciated and could well speed up the release of the next chapter. The next chapter I publish will be for this fic, followed by another chapter for the side fic Only Time will Tell which I intend to eventually overlap multiple times in big ways with this one. I have 3,046 words of Chapter 3 done so far, once I'm done writing the chapter I plan on triple checking it against the last two chapters for inconsistencies and/or contradictions, then I'll have my proofreader look it over as with the past two chapters. After fixing up any mistakes she catches, I'll check through it a couple more times myself before publishing. Sorry again for the long hiatus, I never intended to take such a long break. Life just happened and I got distracted by various other things. 
Anyways, I feel like at the rate I'm going it should be done before 2017. Thanks for your patience and I hope that my story continues to be to your liking.

They do say you can tell a lot about an author by their work and irrational fears are a consistent and complicated issue for me. As such I imagine others having similar issues, though for some maybe they don't think about it as much. With Twilight and Starlight (Twilight being pretty neurotic in general and Starlight having to come to terms with how normal relationships work) I don't have to worry about that.
So, it turns out Starlight's village and the Cutie mark thing was only going on a few months before the Mane 6 arrived. Not years.
Her flashback with Maud confirms this.

This wa written starting immediately after season 5. Starlight is a lot more introspective in my story because I didn't know how the show would portray a redeemed Starlight and I didn't have season 7 to give me a time frame for when Starlight started her cult. I mean maybe at this point I should slap the AU tag on it but I'm not sure if I've veered far enough off course to warrant that and considering most fics branch away from canon at some point. In any case, in my fic it was years and instead of asking Maud, Starlight had to figure things out on her own. Rather than finding a magic rock she found a magical solution and a convenient location after scouting the area with the help of ponies who wanted to help her achieve her goal because they subscribed to her rhetoric.
Still, it's nice that they are fleshing out her backstory a bit more. Want to see them expand more on it in season 8. I love the Starlight character, but didn't like that they left her pretty much a mystery so far. I never had any problem with her backstory because it left a lot of room to expand on later without having to retcon anything. It's not bad, it's incomplete because we have yet to see the full story. It's like Twilight being asked how she became a princess and her telling you it was because Fluttershy was bullied. Which we know was only the start of a series of events that lead to Twilight becoming Princess.
I'm expecting a compelling history on her eventually.
Enjoying your story by the way. And going by what's been going on with season 7, I could actually see this relationship happening, if the show did these sort of things.

I agree wholeheartedly. Don't get me wrong I love seeing the pony she's become but eventually we need to meet her parents and find out the name of the village she grew up in. Also that town she grew up in deserves a proper name. But ya, just because I started this story after the end of season 5 doesn't mean I won't incorporate things like new races or villains, they'll just be placed differently. But before I can even think about that I need to get more than a chapter out a year. Rest assured I haven't given up, even took Creative Writing this semester, I'm just a major procrastinator with a lot of irons in the oven especially right now. And before I forget, thanks
