You Stupid Piece of...

Rainbow Dash vs Her Computer

By Ayla

"Not again!" Rainbow Dash groaned as the RAM on her computer once again shot through the roof unexpectedly, making everything freeze. "Why does it keep DOING that?"

She sighed and clicked optimize on her memory optimizer, which temporarily made her RAM go up the rest of the way, then slowly started to go down. Then the memory optimizer itself froze. "You've gotta be kidding me!"

The next few minutes saw Rainbow impatiently trying to get things to unfreeze so she could start closing things to make the RAM go down. Finally resulting in her yelling, screaming, swearing, and even banging on the sides of her computer to try to make it work.

"Ugh FINALLY!" She griped as her screen unfroze enough for her to start her by now familiar routine. She ran scans with a few different programs to clear out junk and fix any errors. Then she opened google chrome's task manager to end the process of anything she wasn't using. Finally she opened up her computer's task manager to start closing applications and processes. Once done with that she looked in the services tab. "Superfetch. I might have known!"

She'd read online how this program could use way too much RAM and screw things up in your computer. Tired of messing with it she looked up an article on how to stop it once and for all and disabled it. Once done with that, she checked her RAM again. It was still nearly full. She stared at it in disbelief.

"What?! How is that possible?! I closed everything I possibly could and ran all those scans!" Then windows itself froze and had to restart. "Oh come on!"

After more yelling, screaming, swearing and banging, her RAM seemed to decide to behave herself. Satisfied, Rainbow went back to what she'd been doing before. Reading an exciting story online. It was almost as good as Daring Do! Just as she reached a scary part where the main characters were in terrible danger and she eagerly started reading even faster to see what would happen, everything froze yet again. "ARGH!"

After rebooting her computer, everything worked for about ten seconds before it froze once more. "AHHHHHHH! YOU STUPID PIECE OF... STOP THAT! NO!"

WHAM!

"Oops..."

"Rainbow Dash!" Twilight Sparkle scolded as she used her magic to work on fixing her computer. "This is the third time this week that you've put your hoof through the screen!"

"Yeah well, it started it." Rainbow grumbled with a disgusted snort.

After Twilight put all the pieces back together with her magic Rainbow Dash took her computer back home, where once again it started freezing like mad. "That's it!" She slammed in her hard drive repair disc and sure enough, there was damage. After doing other things for an hour she eagerly started her computer again, but once again couldn't get past the freezing. "For pity's sake!"

Going into safe mode with networking, just as she opened the story again and mentally cheered, once again everything froze. "Aw man, do I have a virus or something?" She restarted again, and again. Then windows refused to start at all. "At this rate I'll never find out what happened to them!" She growled in frustration.

She tried using windows start up repair. It didn't work. She tried using a boot disc. It didn't work. She tried using a system image. It didn't work and now she had a screen telling her she needed to use a windows 7 repair and installation disc.... that she didn't have.

Being that those kinds of things were normally quite expensive she used a catalog to get one through the mail for much cheaper. It was a very long week of waiting. When the disc finally arrived, it wouldn't repair her computer. Which meant she was going to have to reinstall windows. Which meant she was going to lose EVERYTHING she had saved on her computer.

"SON OF A..."

CRASH!

"Uh oh..."

"Rainbow." Twilight said in exasperation when she brought her wrecked computer in after having tossed it out the window.

"I know! I know!"

Back at home again, Rainbow started the long process of reinstalling windows. "Finally I'm done! Hey... why won't the internet start?" Feeling more frustrated than ever, she called her internet service. "Hey my internet isn't working."

"Did you do anything new with your computer recently?" The operator asked.

"Well I did just need to reinstall windows." Rainbow told her.

"You're probably missing the proper driver that allows you to connect to the internet."

"Great. Thanks." Rainbow Dash sighed.

After borrowing a disc from Fluttershy that had the proper driver on it, she installed it on her own computer. Then she started the even longer process of putting everything back onto her computer. After a few days she finally got everything in order and sighed in relief.

"Oh! I forgot all about the story!" Eagerly she started clicking to the website when suddenly everything started opening and closing on the screen. "Oh what now?!" Another window popped up saying she had a virus.

"ARGH I HATE YOU! And yet I love you... AND YET I HATE YOU!"

KABAM!

"Oh no..."

"I'm serious Rainbow. You have GOT to stop doing this." Twilight face hoofed when she brought her computer in after having bucked it against the wall.

"Then YOU tell it to behave itself."

"It's not alive Rainbow. It can't do anything to spite you." Twilight shook her head as she started working her magic.

"You sure about that?"

Back at home again, Rainbow managed to use a program to get rid of the trojan on her computer. "At long last! Huh?" Her jaw dropped as suddenly, the blue screen of death appeared. "AHHHHHHHH!"

Twilight answered the door when she heard a knock. Rainbow stood there with her right eye twitching. "Hey Twilight, can I use your computer?"

"Let me do some research to see if I can put an anti destruction spell on it first."

This story was great, because I am somewhat hard core techie.

Love the story, nice short one, but I reckon what would really enhance is is using a few of those 'dividers' That are usually used to mark a time jump. Those would do nicely in transitioning between the smashing and the fixing. Great story, though!

6667363 Thanks for the tip. I'll definitely edit that in.

Story was interesting, but it just needs a few grammar tweaks and a couple of dividers to give it that polish.

Would you mind if I read this on my youtube page?

6667394 Not at all. Be sure to send me a link to it if you do. I'd love to hear it!

Y'know... I reckon this would be great as a short animation. (I can't animate, I'm just putting it out there.)

I've heard people complain about having this much trouble with their computer before. I've had a total of 6 different computers, 5 of them windows, 1 linux, and have never had trouble such as this...

Thank god!

6667387 I edited it a little more so hopefully it reads a bit better now.

I'm guessing that he computer wanted to pick bones with RD.

heh heh heh... I thought it was funny. Tough crowd.

LOTS AND LOTS OF LOLZ! PLZ DO A SEQUEAL!

Twilight is a bit of an enabler isn't she? She fxes Dash's computer, but doesn't do anything about the freezing

As an IT technician-in-training, I found this absolutely hilarious. :rainbowlaugh:

Which meant she was going to have to reinstall windows. Which meant she was going to lose EVERYTHING she had saved on her computer.

That's what backups are for!

"Rainbow." Twilight said in exasperation when she brought her wrecked computer in after having tossed it out the window.

"I know! I know!"

:rainbowhuh: Doesn't RD live in a cloud-house? Twilight must be real good at fixing computers.

Twilight answered the door when she heard a knock. Rainbow stood there with her right eye twitching. "Hey Twilight, can I use your computer?"

"Let me do some research to see if I can put an anti destruction spell on it first."

Probably not a bad idea, Twilight.

Should've gone with a MAC, RD.

must have windows 10 installed.

6668477 If she went with that though she wouldn't have been able to afford anything else when it inevitably did get its own problems

This is my life in a fanfiction...

Rainbow's computer gained sentience somewhere along the line. It's VERY vengeful.

One notice: Computer freezes when CPU load is full, not RAM. If RAM load is full computer shuts down.

Twilight should show Rainbow Dash this video; and maybe watch it herself to understand the importance of educating Dash rather than just getting the computer back into working order: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cihXfGTKNJs

6670359 Right before MY laptop freezes, it shows the RAM as being nearly full along with the CPU. I wrote this story based off my own experiences. Obviously in this story Rainbow looked at the RAM and didn't notice the CPU.

(Though the name is pronounced a as in hay, la. Not i as in light, la. Just saying.)

I just envision pinkie in the background, with her computer hooked up and messing with dash's computer.

Rainbow's using a Dell, isn't she? Yuuuch, My HP laptop's been working fine for four years even with all of my porrrrrresearch that's saved on it.
Yep. Research.:trollestia:
This was funny, so it's faved.
