Step into the life of a pony detective on his quest to find Octavia. With little more to go on than notes scribbled on a pad taken from a distraught Vinyl Scratch, the narrator takes us through his journey to find the missing cellist and what he must overcome to find her and bring her home. A few guest appearances from the mane six to help out in dire situations. Will he make it in time to save Octavia or does she even need rescuing?

663505 If you knew how much this made me laugh you'd feel awkward. haha Plan is such a dirty word for me. I almost never have anything more than a rough outline for any story. I pretty much just make things up on the fly. More often than not it works out alright.

665375 Thanks. I worked all weekend and now I've pretty much got this whole week off to make up for it. So I'm able to write as much as I want to.
Also, I'm officially taking suggestions for the main character's name, by the way. Names were never really my thing and I can't think of a great one for this fella. So hit me with your best.
Ok I admit it, I'm officially absorbed in this. The narration flows well and the mystery is being revealed at a steady pace, just enough to feed the reader's curiosity and keep us interested without giving large info dumps too early on. And now I'm wondering exactly what happened with Dash.
Also that note of course has me all 'oooo what's this now?'
For the name do you want a 'pony name' with two words or one with like a pun? Or do you want a typical detective name maybe something like Marlow or Sam? If you figure out this much it should be a bit easier. When I write I usually just think of a letter that I think will suit the character then I look at a list of names with that letter until one stands out for me. Last names however are not as easy. I hope this helps even somewhat (just my experience anyways)
669007 Thanks. This is actually my first fanfic and I'm actually really enjoying the way it's turning out. Originally it had only been a few ramblings in my head, loosely held together. But once I started writing, my inner spy novelist kicked in and has turned it into a real project for me. And for what I'm coming up with for Dash.. Well, I might have to add a romance tag to this.
And unfortunately, I've found a name. I know it didn't take long but one of my proof readers had a great suggestion and it went with that. You'll get his last name in the next chapter. And you'll know his first name by the sixth. I wouldn't keep you hanging.
For now, I must return to my world of investigation and secret societies. Gotta get my game face on.

676650 I know, I reveled in that moment so much because I wanted to capture that Nightmare Moon type of entrance she had in the first episode and I think I got pretty close.
Also, final chapter is tomorrow so prepare for a doozy. I felt a little rushed with it but I needed to finish this up since I go back to work tomorrow. Besides, I leave it open for a sequel.

Also I would love to see the fic with Shadow teaching Dash how to be a proper detective (so she doesn't just run in and get her flank kicked she actually has proper tactics!
Hmm it was slightly rushed but I think it worked out well enough overall and I loved the ending scene.
(But one thing : I would have like a reunion scene with Vinyl and Octavia.)

Overall, I'm less than happy that I had to rush it but if I didn't finish it yesterday then it would've been weeks before it got done. I work best under pressure.
I do plan to keep writing this guy. I had intended this as a one time thing but I sorta fell in love with my own character and I just wonder where I can take him now. And the romance with Dash was completely unintended. I'm never really been much of a fan of romance spy novels but I think it added a cute touch.
And just for you, I'll work on an epilogue with Vinyl and Octavia. Though it might be a few days (or weeks). But I'll add it eventually.

I really like the idea that Rainbow's mane influences the color of her Sonic Booms and of course Luna is always a badass with her ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE. (The spells used were cool as well and Shadow's inner voice)

It's less easy to get distracted when you have a deadline right there looming.
Characters always do that, they creep into your mind and refuse to leave
(Seriously though creativity is a strange and wonderful thing). I actually had a character as well fall in love with another when I didn't plan it beforehand. But yeah the side plot with Dash was really cute (so glad to see a hetero relationship for her 
It doesn't seem that common in fanfics) but it makes sense that she would go for someone with an exciting lifestyle. The sequel totally has to have them being all back to back kicking flank (with more cameos!) 
You wrapped it up very well. Very well written and it kept me captivated throughout. I hope you write another Shadow Chaser story.
