X and Octavia went straight to the next section of Sigma's fortress, climbing up a narrow passage to the next chamber containing a Maverick Hunter duplicate. This one turned out to be of Armored Armadillo. After dodging the duplicate's first rolling charge bouncing around the room, X used his Electric Spark - taken from Spark Mandrill - to electrify the duplicate, causing its armor to fly off. When it turned to try and shoot him, Octavia unleashed a Hadouken into its back, exploding it in one hit.
X stared in shock at that. "...wow. Dad wasn't kidding when he talked about how powerful that was."
"I doubt the higher ups will let us keep the technique unlocked after Sigma's down," Octavia pointed out. "We'll probably have to seal it up."
"Likely," X agreed. "So let's make as much use of it as we can in the meantime."
Octavia couldn't help but grin widely at that suggestion.
After another short passageway with a few easy to destroy Mechanaloids, they came across the duplicate of Sting Chameleon. Octavia hit it with her Hadouken while it was still posing dramatically. "Why do they even do that?" she asked.
"Dunno, but I call the next one," X pouted.
After another short passageway, they came to a duplicate of Spark Mandrill. Octavia froze him with Shotgun Ice, allowing X to obliterate him with his Hadouken.
The next passage took them underwater. Varia immediately shifted to her aquatic configuration, giving Octavia freedom of movement. Since the armor upgrade allowed Varia to generate oxygen, they weren't in any rush at this point. As the duplicate of Launch Octopus lowered down into the battle chamber, X fired his Hadouken, catching the tips of the copy's feet before it could touch down. It exploded quite pleasingly.
Octavia stared in consternation. "Wow...this is seriously overpowered. Maybe HQ will be right to deny us usage of this in the future."
"Possibly," X allowed. He then smirked. "Not gonna stop us from abusing it in the meantime, right?"
Octavia grinned right back.
After using a fully charged Chameleon Sting to speed through the next narrow passage over spikes - X explaining how the fully charged technique actually fazed them both slightly out of sync with the rest of reality, which is why the spikes didn't effect him - they reached a duplicate of the chamber where they originally faced Flame Mammoth...along with a duplicate of Flame Mammoth.
"Almost too easy," X and Octavia commented together after they both fired off their Hadoukens.
Beyond that chamber, they faced the final Fortress Guardian, which looked like a massive, robotic canine skull, split between upper and lower jaws. The lower jaw was a platform moving back and forth on the floor, while the upper moved around to smash into walls.
"Doubt we can abuse it here," X murmured.
"Pick me up," Octavia instructed.
Nodding, X did so. With him holding her over his head, she fired her Hadouken, catching the top half of the Guardian as it came down to meet the lower half. Both promptly exploded violently.
"Maybe it's just that there's two of us that it's so devastating," X murmured as they set up the remote beacon before heading for the final fortress segment.
The pair beamed in at the bottom of a narrow vertical passageway. Climbing to the top, the pair found Sigma awaiting them with his canine mechanaloid. "Ah, X, I've been expecting you." He raised his eyebrow at Octavia. "Though I wasn't expecting her to be here. I was under the impression that you were quite...protective of her."
"New regulations after what happened when Vile injured her," X explained. "Until further notice, I'm not allowed out on hunts without her, since I apparently can't control myself when I'm afraid for her well being."
Sigma nodded. "Yes...I saw how you dealt with Vile...and Boomer Kuwanger...and my spider...however, I believe my pet will-"
"That's a good puppy!" Octavia cooed happily, scratching the wolf like canine mechanaloid on the belly. "Yes you are! Yes you are!"
The robowolf, for his part, let out a happy howl as he lay on his back for belly rubs.
Sigma's eyes narrowed as he threw off his cloak, drawing his beam sword. "You dare corrupt my pet?" he roared, lunging forward.
The wolf grabbed Octavia and leapt out of the way as Sigma brought his beam sword down.
"Hadouken!" X shouted from behind him.
Sigma immediately spun, raising his beam sword to block...only for Octavia's Hadouken to hit him in the back. His body was obliterated, leaving only his head behind. "A clever strategy," he proclaimed as his head floated up to attach to a massive battle body. "However, you will find it less than effective against me now!" As the body locked his head in place, he heard the tinking sound of metal against metal to his left. "Huh?" Turning, his eyes met Octavia's as she was braced against the metal ear of the giant battle body, her forehooves pulled back. "How?!"
"Sigma," Octavia stated bluntly, "you have been found guilty of crimes of terrorism, mental manipulation of Reploids, and presenting a clear and present danger to the world at large, human and Reploid alike. By order of the Maverick Hunters, I hereby carry out your termination." She thrust her legs forward. "Hadouken!"
Sigma screamed out a long, despairing, "NOOOOOOOOO!" as his battle body erupted in a massive explosion. X, Octavia, and the wolf promptly beamed out, landing on a nearby cliff to watch the fall and destruction of Sigma's Fortress.
As X stared out at the destruction he'd played a part in, he wondered if he had taken the best path. All eight rebelling Hunters who had followed Sigma were in captivity, some to rejoin the Hunter's ranks. Sigma had been destroyed, and very few lives had actually been lost in the fight. Zero was injured, but he would be repaired someday. But...was there another way to handle this?
"Who's a good puppy? Yes you are! Yes you are!"
X turned with a smile as he heard that happy howl. "I guess you've got yourself a pet now," X joked.
The wolf barked happily. "No, he was talking to me!" Octavia snapped, sticking her tongue out at the wolf, who growled playfully back.
X couldn't help but laugh. "Does he have a name?"
Octavia cocked her head as she listened for a time to the wolf. "He says he was based off of a wolf robot support unit from before The End Times. The robot was named Treble - or perhaps Gospel, he isn't sure...and his name is Classic."
X glanced down at the wolf. "Classic, huh?" he murmured as the wolf began to wrestle with Octavia. "...it suits you. Both of you."
Alia stared in shock as a message appeared tagged for delivery to X, especially so soon after Sigma's defeat.
Just like speedrunners.
How to Hadouken spam!
1: Get Hadouken.
2: Get power 'for' Hadouken.
3: Spam it whenever possible!
6461866 except Hadouken is actually fairly useless against sigma's final form, as it only does 1/4 of his health, and you're gonna get hurt trying to keep on one of his hands to keep damaging him with it.you could just use an E-tank, of course, but as the hands move rather erratically, lining up a shot is pretty difficult.
or you can just do what Octavia did and get on his back.
Another enjoyable chapter. Good job.
6461930
That must be in the Maverick Hunter X version.
While it's incredibly difficult to get balanced right on the hands to ride up to fire it off at full health, if you manage it, it's still a one hit KO in the original version.
6461930
Yeah, but in Maverick Hunter is super effective.
If you don't believe me, watch this.
Nah, just unlock the Hadouken when facing Sigma.
...I don't know what to say, the Hadouken just seems incredibly game-breaking.

The Hadouken OHKO effect works on every enemy except for the final form of the final boss, so how did it beat him in one shot?... No, wait, let me guess... it's because this is an AU, isn't it?
Gospel?

Ah, so it's based off of Trebel? The superboss from MMBN3 makes a lot more sense, now.
6462049
Okay, that's the second comment telling me it doesn't work...when I know from actually playing the original SNES version that it does. What gives?
6462046
It is.
That's half the fun of it.
And why X and Octavia don't get to use it in later games.
6462078 Hmm... maybe it just doesn't work in the collector's edition (The version I have)? It took out some cool stuff from the original versions (Like X actually saying hadouken when it fires), so I wouldn't be surprised.
6462091
That's probably it. It just doesn't work in collector's edition.
Whenever X places a beacon down I can't help but always think... X marks the spot.
I haven't seen this many Hadokens fired since Street Fighter. Hell, even that's pushing it!
The game I can't wait to see is MMX4. I am curious to see how you handle that one.
X8 is before command mission and i cant wait to see how use Axl and his perfict form White Axl
What have you done??!! The whole place is spammed with hadouken!!!!
Well... that was... ugh, why can't I think of a way to say it...
Sealed up means it can be opened again when needed!!!!!
AWESOME!!!!
YAY!!! CUTENESS!!!!
God, I remember being slightly terrified as a kid when I saw that message the first time. I wonder what X's reaction will be when he sees it.
6462581 id say wubsomely cute
6463730 Well.... i guess it'll do... *le sigh*
6463805 ther best i culd come up with
6452351 i just clocked on who helped build x and zero
6463384 well this is embarrassing. So I went back and looked through everything and found out that I was mixing canon and fanon by accident. There were a few bots that looked similar to protoman in canon. The Prometheus character I knew of however was From a altered game.Sorry about that. ^^
*aherm*
*BEW BEW BEW BEW BEW*
6462097 Reading the comments regarding the Hadoken and Sigma's final form confused me some, since I have my own clear experiences regarding it not working out, so I did some checking around Youtube. Turns out you might just have had a different version of the original SNES cartridge, according to this video comment:
"I know this is old; but I DID do it on my original MMX cart. Ive managed it once, but it DID kill him in one hit. There are different versions of the MMX cart; some you CAN pull it off, and others you cant."
6462078 https://youtu.be/3FvYvjYjxGs?t=32m13s
Maybe the version where Sigma is vulnerable to the Hadouken is not the original one?
6611612
Both times the Hadoken was attempted in that video, Sigma was in invincibility frames. Hadoken doesn't do anything to anyone during invincibility frames, no matter what version.
6475370 Different versions of MMX... Check...
Hadouken not one Shooting Sigma... Check your timing please...
Funny, I'd always thought that Sigma's Rush X (my personal favorite theory being it was a scrapped support unit for X based off of Rush that Sigma happened upon one day and reprogrammed, thus my nickname for him) was named Velgrauder, or something similar.
In the version I had, it only took half his energy bar out.
Okay
Rockman
Roll
Bass
Treble
Gospel
and now Classic
I beginning to think that Light and Willy are Music buffs
8009413 you forgot Proto...or should I say...Blues.
That brings to mind....
You might want to write down what Sigma spoke on the YouTube video, as if that video goes bye-bye, then there would be nothing .
As evidence the game has it:
Heh. Nice.
The ONLY thing that I think is slightly bugging me about this story compared to W3 (well, not so much 'bugging' as throwing me off) is that Octavia as we know her from the show—at the very least from 'Slice of Life'—is really proper and acts kinda posh, whereas here she seems a little more, well, Vinyl-y than I would have expected, and eager to get into battle and get her hooves dirty. As far as I recall (though I did take an unintentional mini-hiatus for a bit), the only true similarity between this Tavi and show Tavi is her innate interest in the cello. Then again, she's still pretty young and malleable right now, and is being raised in VASTLY different circumstances, so aside from the obvious fact that this is an AU, I can see the major aspects of her personality realistically being very different. It's just initially a little hard to picture the classical cellist we know as a battle-ready mini powerhouse.
thus sigma is bested, and now we live in terror as to what he will do next, also horay for classic :)
