The Changeling hive, in my story at least, consists of various types of Changelings. Don’t read on if you’re scared of spoilers, though they’re none here. I think.

The Queen is the leader and mother to all the Changelings in her hive. She guides them, leads them, loves them and controls them in various degrees.
She can drain ponies of their love and emotion and if done severely enough, she can change them into Changelings instantly. She can use other ways too, that aren’t as painful for the intended victim.
She is irreplaceable, except by her heir, and if she were to die, the hive soon follows after.
The Drones are your standard, run of the mill Changelings. They have a consciousness but they prefer to blindly follow orders. They are pony-sized and have wings and a smooth curved horn.
The Soldiers are the Changeling invading forces’ bread and butter. They look the same as the drones and are the same size but they’re bulkier and more aggressive.
Behemoths are the tanks of the Hive. They’re muscular and giant Changelings, who rely on their strength to get things done. However, they are more inclined to defend than to attack.
They rarely, if ever leave the Hive, since they can’t transform into ponies because of their massive size. So instead their disguises are buffalos and other bulky creatures. Some are even bigger than that and have no viable creatures to disguise themselves as.
They’re two times as big as the biggest pony you can imagine (some are even bigger) and strong as bears. Some display a strange obsession with various kinds of headgear.
Praetorians are the Queen’s personal guards. Instead of relying on transformations to hide themselves, they use camouflage. There’s always at least two of them wherever the queen goes, hiding in plain sight, waiting for a threat to emerge. They are fast, strong and will die defending their queen.
Harvesters are Drones that have been forcibly cut off from the queen. They can act and handle independently for a few months. The queen sends them out into Equestria, where they will assume disguises. Sometimes they disguise themselves as the loved ones of certain ponies, taking their place for a few days or weeks to collect the love they have to give.
Other times they just take up a random disguise and attempt to start a relationship with a regular pony, to harvest the most amount of love. After they’ve collected enough love, they return to the hive and supply the queen with the love. She in turn spreads it to the rest of the hive. The Harvester is then reintegrated into the Hive mind and returns to his or her regular duties.
Converts are indistinguishable from other Changelings, though some of them tend to talk back when given an order, instead of just nodding. They used to be ponies that were drained of all of their love.

I’ve based most of these classes on insects. Mostly ants to be honest. I hope they make some sort of sense.

Well I've stayed up far too late reading this. I am definitely, definitely looking forward to Twilight returning to her friends, because I know that they'll be incredibly conflicted about the whole thing. On the one hand, she's still Twilight. On the other... GIANT TALKING EMOTION-EATING BUG!

Changeling!Twilight has been in my headcanon ever since that the Royal Wedding episode aired. And now, only now, do I see Changeling!Twillight in fanfics.
Let me say this: There's a distinct possibility that you're going to end up starting the next Alicorn Twilight clichè. And that would be awesome.

Well, that feels a little like sacrificing Celestia on the Altar of Making Chrysalis Likeable. It'd be different if Celestia has had reasons to act like she did, but if not, it's just switching the role of the villain around. I understand trying to change Chrysalis to be less unmotivatedly evil; but having Celestia act like the Changeling Queen remembers, without an explanation, just makes her act unmotivatedly evil.
i honestly can't wait for more. I would also like to say i hate cliff hangers. But i just gotta wait.... damn time.
personally i would put chrysalis as the same type of godlike being as celestia maybe just a smidgen weaker. she is the leader of her subjects and i would write off the only reason her mother died was because she starved to death feeding chrysalis and her children shortly after the transformation

And damn, that's one hell of a review. I understand what you mean with Luna and Blueblood. They are a bit too chummy perhaps but I wanted to depict that they are very close. Luna's seclusion meant that she spend most of her time in the castle. Blueblood on the other hand just doesn't want to go out much either, because he feels that everypony's just looking at his title. So I felt it would be likely for them to grow close, real quick. If that makes any sense...
The pylons thing was a bit meta, I know. I've just been thinking of the Changelings as the Zerg in this story for some reason and Unicorns, in general, as the Protoss. The pylon was a reference to that
And the plot... well, I have no excuse for that. I just like using that to mentions butts. Asses and other words just seem so out of place.
About the edit, I won't say anything about the ending yet
but I do understand your point. I will keep them in mind. Thanks for taking the time to analyze these kind of things. They help me write a better story

940808 I thought the same, though one thing kind of bothered me. The ponies were terrified of Zecora whenever she went into town, even though she's pretty much the same as them, just with stripes. But when Gilda came to town, nopony flinched. You'd think they fear a gryphon more than a zebra. But that's just what I think.

He typically spends his days at home, studying maps and texts and the like. Luna on the other hand has been reclusive up until Nightmare Night and was at the castle too, so they spend a lot of time together. If that makes any sense at all...

The book came first; it was published in the 1950s. Be aware, though, it's completely and utterly different from the movie because the author, Robert Heinlein, wrote it less as an action-fest and more about the ideals about why we fight wars and why they are sometimes necessary. The movie's director, Paul Verhoeven, basically shat all over the entire premise of the book and turned it into a campy parody of patriotism.
So yes, there's a book, and it's about a thousand times better than the movie. But it's also different so don't go in expecting nothing but battle scenes; there are a few, but most of the book is about the concepts of duty, patriotism, and the reasons for war. However, if you like exploring new ideas and well-written scenes that explore an often-overlooked portion of human experience, then you'll like it whether you agree with it or not.

946194 Chrysalis dropped the name 'Starlight' after past-Celestia and her past friends denouced her. It also seems that in her grief and anger she started to intentionaly distance herself from "being Starlight" as it caried to much pain for her. So in a sense, as was stated in the memory Starlight did "die".

This is a fantastic story thus far. You've not only managed to make a changeling race that justifiably exchanges babies with their own, you also made Blueblood, King of the One-Dimensional Asshats, into a well-rounded, believable character. That alone is enough for commendation. As it is, I'm eagerly looking forward to more.
