Hmn, so Whisper is Cerulean's missing brother? That is what I am guessing at the moment based on the story name and Cerulean remembering the pony who taught him the spell. Seems like the 16 year timeframe could match up as well, though I don't remember offhand if we have been given a timeframe for how long the brother was missing.

I think that "than" is supposed to be "with" or something along that line.  

But grammar-nazi bullshittery aside, fantastic chapter.  And now I'm beginning to wonder if djthomp is right...that could be Cerulean's brother......that would be interesting.  I've been wanting his brother to show up, even if only to make his parents put in an appearance, but if that really is his brother then it's official, Cerulean's family is one step closer to their goal of taking over all of Equestria!....Well, at least Ponyville.....*whispers from come from off-screen*...what do you mean that's not their goal?  By the end of this story they'll have married into the families of three of the six Elements of Harmony!....*more whispers*....what do you mean "slander", I'm not....*whispers again*.....fine....I hereby retract any statements that may or may not have been viewed as offensive to the family of one Cerulean Snowgleam, as well as any insinuation that they have anything less than pure intentions for their spouses, their spouses' families, and the town they now live in.....there, are you happy now? *grumbles and walks off screen*

So after looking at all the evidence, and seeing everyone's expectations about Whisper's secret, there is only one logical conclusion:

Whisper's voice isn't terrible, he doesn't kill ponies like a banshee or anything like that, the secret is, in fact, the exact opposite.  His voice is too PERFECT.   Rather than hurting ponies directly, his voice sounds so amazing that everypony he speaks to ends up being accidentally seduced by his dulcet tones.  All the accidents he's caused are because of the ponies frantically trying to get closer to him, and all the anger is from the spouses and lovers of the ponies he's seduced.  He does all this unintentionally of course, and therefore doesn't understand why other ponies keep chasing him or getting mad at him every time he speaks, only that bad things happen every time he does.  Yes.....this is obviously the only logical conclusion....

That actually makes an impressive amount of sense.

Given the amount of attention being given to soul magic, as it was discussed earlier, I tend to suspect that Whisper's voice is laced with uncontroled magic that may cause any number of results, possibly relating to Whisper's emotional state at the time.  Since he's taken a lot of abuse and appears to be in a state of near constant fear of other ponies, I suspect that those times he has spoken, his magic has thus tended towards more dangerous results as a defense mechanism.

You know, when I first wrote that comment I was just being sarcastic....but after spending all night at work thinking about it, it really does seem like it could work.  Especially if he really does end up being Cerulean's brother.  I mean, c'mon, a voice that seduces everyone that hears it would fit perfectly with the fact that the only spell he got from his brother was an enchanted song.  And there's plenty of mythological precedent for that idea being valid.  

The big plot hole (screw you Ariamaki, now I can't even talk about literary tropes without naughty images of Celestia and Twilight popping into my head....) with that whole scenario is that in one of Whisper's internal monologues he mentions that the last disaster was someone getting trapped in a landslide.  Also when Fluttershy says she likes his looks he comments that that's the reason everyone calls him a monster......so I'm probably wrong.  Would still be kinda awesome if I was actually right for once though .

Huh. There'd usually be comments by now. Oh well. At least I can stop anyone from doing a First Comment.

I can officially say, I'm hooked. Can't wait for the next chapter. Although I'm starting to get pissed... pissed with jealousy! Seriously! You're belting out entire stories in the time it takes me to write one damn chapter.

Not that I am wishing harm on anypony in particular, but I can't wait to see what happens when Whisper hurts someone with his magic. With all his emphasis on how dangerous he is it seems bound to happen.

That said, this could go south really quickly if he manages to injure Fluttershy with his magic and the rest of the mane 6 & crew rush into the forest and go after him.

Pro work ethic with all of these stories !!! , however I can honestly say when it comes to reading, the stories that are consistently updated are the ones I always read first I cant wait to see what is up with Whisper, hopefully we can all find out soon, for I fear in the mean time I may very well go pinkie crazy , anyways keep up the amazing work!!

This is totally the first story that has me looking for stuff to distract me to keep from staring at the screen waiting for an update Fluttershy is best pony... period.

>>627224627224 The truth of the matter is sometimes I get really far into a fic and realize that things need to be changed in the earlier segments.  I like being able to release a chapter a day, as I absolutely hated waiting for a month between updates for the few fics I was reading.  Quality, especially after realizing how rushed "Tears" was, is a high priority, and I will sometimes scrap whole chapters and start from scratch if I'm not satisfied with the first.  Still, I do love me some double posting on my days off!

I understand, I use that same method (although it's in other kind of projects, since I'm still studying engineering): Start very early, and improve upon what's already done when you have better ideas.

Nothing like waking up, and having your first thought be "Hey, that could work!" instead of "Shit. I should have done it this way."

I finally caught back up with 3 months reading and it ends here......DAMN IT!!!  At least it wasn't a major cliff hanger.

I'm still thoroughly enjoying all these stories, although i caught about 3 font errors with Whispers communication method throughout the chapters, making it appear like he actually spoke. (picky, ain't i? )
