51w, 4dTwiLuna
By now, Twilight Sparkle's thoughts had been wandering quite a lot; Why'd Luna summon her? What could've happened? Good news? Bad news? She had absolutely no idea. But as always whenever she'd seen princess Luna's royal badge on a letter she'd simply pounce at poor Spike who'd be the one who was holding the letter. She'd opened the letter instantly, after clumsily getting up on her hooves, not giving the dizzy Spike another glance. She didn't know why she felt that way. Why she was this excited, whenever she saw Luna's letters. The way her heart was suddenly thumping in a new fashion, and sometimes even skipping a beat, from pure excitement. She'd never felt like this when receiving a letter from princess Celestia, although she was excited to read her letters as well. It might be because Princess Luna did always have something interesting to inform Twilight. More interesting than studies, friendship lessons and what not. Although it was different this time. In the letter it only said:
We would like you to come accompany us here in Canterlot castle,
whenever you would happen to find time for us.
Your friend, Luna."
This is by no mean a very informative letter and Twilight had recognized it as urgent, since it is obvious that it had been written in rush. She was galloping now, through the mazes of hallways in the castle, whilst she still puzzles with it in her mind.
Why would Princess Luna send this kind of letter? Thought Twilight. She simply can't give it a rest. She looks down into the ground, and her ears droops as worry invades her mind. Maybe something terrible happened! ...To princess Celestia! As this conclusion comes up she decides to let the worry rest in the back of her head.
She continues to trot and her ears perks up as she walks by a hallway where a smaller group of guards were trots. The noise from these guards simply breaks the silence conquering the whole castle. This same noise caused Twilight to just stand there without a reason, staring at what causes the noise; Their scrambling armours. The muffled sound as their hooves hits the red carpet, plus the echoing sound of their hooves hitting the blue and cyan checkered floor. Twilight shakes her head and continues to trot through the hundreds of hallways. She allows her thoughts to wander once again, but only about the letter itself.
By the time she puts it to rest she is at the very bottom of the stairs which leads all the way up the tower to Princess Luna's private chamber. If these stairs are anything like the ones in Princess Celestia's tower they're never ending.. Sighs Twilight. "Better get going already," whispers the impatient lavender mare. She's more or less driven by only the excitement for getting to see Luna again. Eagerly yet slowly she initiates the walk up the thousands of stairs.

"Umm.. Princess?" asks Twilight, with a worried look haunting her whole face.
"Yes what is it Twilight?" Replies the princess of the sun, whilst a broad, warm smile spreads on her muzzle.
"I've just been wondering about.. Um.. Your sister, Princess Luna, I've never really heard her mention anypony at all. Do you know why?" Asks Twilight, shifting between looking down into the ground and up at the majestic alicorn.
The Princess frowns for less than a second before putting on her trademark smile again. Her prized student had just asked the question Celestia had asked herself occasionally. But Twilight continues, "I've been talking more frequently with your sister lately. Through letters."
"That might have something to do with her talking with nopony, except for me and yourself. She isn't very social. She never was." Replies Princess Celestia. Still wearing her warm trademark smile, and thus confused Twilight.
Why is she happy, for her sister not talking to nopony at all. That probably isn't the case though. It is Princess Celestia after all. Wonders Twilight, but then she realized she had just heard. That she was one of the only ponies a princess, one of the rulers of Equestria, was talking to. She couldn't help but blushing, yet only faintly. I'm really one of the two ponies she's talking to?
When the lavender mare had been thinking for the better of a minute, she then asked "D-do you know why?" She began feeling nervous, of reasons that she didn't quite understand. Again the Princess caught herself frowning. Though this time she didn't smile. This was a part of the reason why Twilight was her price pupil. She was a very clever pony.
"The reason, of this, Lulu might want to tell you herself, whenever she feel ready. This is private business, but if she really wants to tell you, she'll be doing it soon. You're the only pony she's actually trusting." Now the princess just kept frowning. And was clearly thinking a lot.
"Sorry for asking. I can clearly see that this is something I should stay out of. But you said she did only trust me? What about you, Princess? She trusts you don't she?" Twilight asked, with a clear expression of confusion.
Princess Celestia answered coldly "No." This made Twilight even more confused, and she could easily feel the cold reality in these spoken words of her mentor.
"But you're her sister! And you're a princess, nonetheless!" Twilight said almost yelling. "How come she won't trust you? Everypony else trusts you!" The way that Twilight spoke, almost yelled, startled Princess Celestia. And obviously herself. "Sorry" Twilight squeaked when she realized she had just yelled at the princess, at her mentor.
"It's quite alright, Twilight Sparkle, but I do think it's okay for me to answer this." The sun goddess answered warmly, "The reason for this is quite simple. Lulu is simply jealous."
Twilight was clearly suprised, but didn't show it. "Jealous? Of you?" She asked quickly.
"Yes, that is correct, my most faithful student." The princess was now smiling. Celestia was her old self once again.
"How come?" Twilight Sparkle asked. She was asking the right questions. She always did.
"Well partly of the same reason which made her transform into Nightmare Moon a thousand years ago.. Everypony enjoys the day, but nopony, but a few of our subjects, do enjoy her night, and they only began doing that recently. Never before she was banished to the moon." When Princess Celestia had answered, she frowned. It was obviously a sore spot. She never wanted to banish her sister to the moon. "I do also myself find it rather unfair, that this is the way it's supposed to be, but it's a fact it's just easier to sleep when it's dark. That's the nature, and not even me and Lulu can change the nature." The princess continued on her reply.
Twilight was speechless. But why? Why? She was thinking rather much.
But then she realized that the princess was still talking to her, and what she heard was: "... Lulu has never let anypony into her private chamber, not even me or the royal guards. I've tried to ask her why, but she never answered." Because she didn't hear the half of what the princess just said, she replied with a simple nod. She wouldn't seem like a ignorant, especially not to the princess, and therefore she didn't ask her to say it again.

By now she had walked all the way up the staircase, the never ending spiral staircase. And she had just walked into some gigantic double doors. "Auch!" Grunted Twilight, blushing and glancing around her, to check if it would happen that somepony had seen her doing something that awfully stupid. These doors were made of wood, a mysterious purple wood. This colour wasn't painted. It had something else to it. It was like magic just to stand nearby these doors. The double doors was also trimmed with some dark grey iron, also this iron decorated the door shaped like star constellations, in the middle of the doors there was a moon shaped figure. The material which of this moon was made of, the young lavender mare did not recognize. Besides these doors, on the walls, there was Luna's cutie mark. Before knocking on the door, she wondered whether this figure was made of actual moon stone. This wouldn't really be impossible since, Luna had been on the moon. Banished to it, to be exact.
Just as she knocked, the door was surrounded with a dark blue glow. Some pattern, cut into the wood, on the door was also filled with this dark blue glow. These patterns was barely visible before. The door was now getting imbued in this weird glow. This warm dark blue glow. When the patterns was all filled, the doors began to open, slowly.
On the other side of the door, just before Twilight, stood the princess of the night. Her horn was also surrounded by this glow. The young mare had been startled by this.
"Oh, I am so very sorry, Twilight Sparkle!" The big alicorn responded, with a guilty expression on her face, as she hurried to the purple mare.
When Twilight had calmed down, she managed to speak "O-oh it's nothing. I-I promise your h-highness."
Luna frowned as she heard her title. "There is no need to be formal, Twilight Sparkle. Just call me Luna. My title is not that important anyways."
Twilight's jaw dropped and was just about to hit the floor. "What!? Not important?!" She found herself yelling. She took a second to calm down, looking at Luna. "Your hi--" she saw the face of the alicorn change as she were about to mention her title again "..Luna, you're a princess! It's nothing BUT important!"
The Alicorn had nudged the the still a bit confused, and very upset, mare to a pillow on the floor just in front of a fire place which both lit and warmed up the room. Every window in the room was covered, and didn't let in a single beam of light from the sun. Twilight was once again startled, but this time by the sound of the door slammed shut. The room was much like Princess Celestia's, just decorated more like the night. Darker and instead of continues suns, there were many stars, in different constellations and a few moons. Yet Twilight felt more home in Luna's room than Celestia's. "My sister is the ruler of Equestria, That's something. I'm just a princess, Twilight Sparkle. And I do not rule anything. But the moon, and the stars, but they're only minor exceptions, since nopony cares about the moon, the stars and the night. But maybe it's only for the best that I am not ruling anything."
"Twilight, just Twilight." Twilight replied before saying something that was related to the topic. The Princess sent a confused glance. "But don't you rule Equestria together with your sister, Pr-- Luna? And some ponies including myself do from time to time enjoy admiring, the night."
The Tall, and elegant, and pretty, Alicorn mare then said, "No. We don't, really. My sister was trying to let me rule together with her, but even though she has forgiven - and apologized to - me, even though we were the ones to apologize, she is having a hard time letting us rule Equestria with her. Because you know, the incident.. With Nightmare Moon."
As she mentioned Nightmare Moon, she heard the scream that she had heard when she was released from Nightmare Moon, followed by a voice in her head 'Why are we telling her this, we shouldn't even be talking to her' and she saw a furious Nightmare Moon, snapping at her, for her eyes. With a short glimpse of the nightly magic surrounding her horn, both the voice and the tall Nightmare of a pony disappeared.
"Yes, sorry for asking," She did feel a bit guilty for bringing such topic up, though she hadn't quite expected the answer.
"It's quite alright, Twilight Sp--," she were about to mention her last name, when she remembered that she weren't supposed to, "Oh yes, just Twilight that is. It is quite alright, you didn't know the reason. It isn't your fault."
After they had been quiet for some time, Twilight had to ask. "What was it you wanted to tell me, since you couldn't just write it in the letter?" The princess blushed, this question caught her unguarded.
"Well, the reason that I did also write the letter like that, was because I just wanted to spend some time with you, Twilight." She remembered to not say 'Sparkle' this time. Now the young mare couldn't do nothing while her cheeks was simply burning blood red.
"I'm r-really honoured, L-Luna" The poor young mare couldn't get to speak right. She just stammered, she had never done that so obvious before.
"Well, you are really our only friend," The alicorn started blushing again just as it faded "Except for 'Tia. Umm.. I mean Celestia." Luna blushed even more, but so did Twilight, for the previous comment.
"T-this is w-wonderful. I-I am really glad that you fell that way." She just caught herself screwing up there.
"I-I m-mean the part t-that I'm y-your friend!" She stammered even more, as she got more nervous.
You're just making it worse Twilight!
"Just calm down Twilight, We did get that. You needn't worry at all. We are just happy that you wanted to spend some time with us, though we could have explained it further in the letter,"
"Oh it's that late!" Twilight yelled. They had been talking and been playing chess, Luna had also been painting stuff. Also Twilight. Mostly, Twilight. The time was just going fast today. The sun was just starting to set, and there wasn't any late trains these days. Some changes had happened to the schedules of the trains. In these busy days, it wasn't even weird.
"The last train to Ponyville departs in less than 20 minutes!" Twilight panicked.
"Oh we are so sorry for keeping you here, Twilight, please tell us if we can do anything to make up for this!" Luna did also seem to panic. Maybe because she wouldn't lose her only friend. And that she really did care a lot about Twilight. This she didn't even realize most of the time.
"It's okay, but I can't get home tonight. I'll just have to go ask Princess Celestia if I can spend the night in the northern tower, I used to live there when I wasn't in the royal library. Well that was before I moved to Ponyville." Twilight replied, rather calm considering that she missed the last departure to Ponyville.
"No, Twilight." Princess Luna replied, Twilight lifting a eyebrow, very confused, "You can stay here, I'll let you sleep in my bed, if it bothers you, we can just sleep on the floor."
Once again Twilight's heart skipped a beat, still she didn't know why. It might have been that in any situation, this would be just a tiny bit awkward for anypony to be in her situations "N-no princess--"
Luna cut her off "It is Luna."
Twilight shook her head. "Oh yes of course L-Luna, but you can of c-course lay in the bed too, there's is plenty room for even more t-than the t-two of us." Twilight said. It was really a huge bed. Room enough for at least 5 ponies and that was if they all were at the size of Luna, or well any alicorn Twilight knew of. But even though it was really a huge bed, Twilight felt awkward about it. She felt some warm, but nagging feeling in her chest.
"And of course thank you, L-Luna." Twilight continued after a while.
Luna shook her head "It is the least I can do, after all it was I who kept you here."
They had spent some more time talking and doing more fun stuff together. But Twilight happened to see that it was evening already. Luna had uncovered most windows, while it was getting later and later.
"L-Luna?" Twilight asked, still stammering even though they had spent all day talking. But at least she didn't do it often. No this was because of the awkward situation she was in.
It's.. Somewhat.. Romantic.. I think. Twilight thought to herself. But we're just friends, though I do care for her, as much as I do about my other friends. And I haven't spent as much time with her as I have with them.
"Yes, what is it, Twilight?" The lunar princess replied with a big warm smile, Twilight previously only had seen on Celestia's muzzle.
"I was just w-wondering if we could, umm.. M-maybe go.. L-look at s-stars together?" Now this time it was Luna's heart skipping a beat, but she at least knew why.
Somepony likes my night! Somepony does really like my night! And this somepony happens to be my very own friend..! My very own friend spending time with me! Luna did also blush as the thoughts in her head just kept flying through her mind. some of these thoughts made her lift her eyebrow and think about how she got to think about something like that.. But at least it wasn't something inappropriate... How can I, catch myself thinking something like that about me and my friend. My best friend. She was a bit embarrassed with herself. But it was a new thing for her to. To have a friend.
The two ponies walked across the room, stopped just before the glass door. This was dark tinted glass so that only in the day time you were able to look through, and that would make it look like it was night time. By now Twilight couldn't get the room to feel like Celestia's anymore, it was way different. Luna used her magic to open glass door, and she walked outside into the night with Twilight at her side...

Why are there no comments here, this is just criminal.
I love where this story is going and I really do hope you continue it. There a few problems with changing tense and a few other small issues here and there but nothing that tears me away from the story itself. Good job and keep writing!
