Rainbow Dash and Gilda are alike in many ways. They're both totally awesome at flying. They're both totally hilarious. And, of course, they're the only girls at Junior Speedsters that aren't totally annoying and dumb.

However, Rainbow Dash begins to see how different they truly are when Gilda offers her a taste of the bird she's just caught for lunch. Rainbow Dash doesn't eat other animals, and she knows that Gilda is super gross for doing so—but she'll be damned if she's about to let Gilda think she's a wuss. After all, it's just a stupid bird; what's the worst that can happen?

A short vignette about animals and friendships. Originally written in about an hour for the January /fic/ Write-off, "All In." Rated Teen for some minor grotesque imagery. Thanks to Soge and Bachiavellian for offering some insights.

At least cook it. Nice quick one-shot.

Good story, though the raw bird flesh probably wouldn't taste bitter. Maybe it would to a magical pony, though. :rainbowderp:

A nice balance between bitchy Gilda and lonely Dash. Can totally see that working as an early relationship with them.

It's nice to see this expanded. You capture the uneasy relationship well. I can definitely see Dash looking back on her time with Gilda and blurring out these kinds of interactions with the airbrush of nostalgia. Yet Gilda does care for Dash in her own way. These two are just a huge, adorable lump of macho, adolescent awkwardness. Thank you for this.

You're welcome! Thank you for reading, my friend.

This a beautiful small story, rich in character, clear in focus. You knew exactly what you were doing when you wrote this, and you captured the bravado that permeates the relationship very well.
My only question is, why would Dash pray to Windigoes? Isn't that a bit like calling out for aid to Moloch or Nylarthotep? Or was your intent that Dash was so desperate she's praying to the forces of good and the depth of evil?

In my personal headcanon, the Windigoes are just generally revered as nature spirits. While ponies acknowledge the ways in which they tortured early Equestrians, they also respect them for their power.

Thanks for the kind words. Always appreciated.

“Maybe if you actually tried one, you would actually like it!” Gilda sang. Her grin somehow grew bigger. “C’mon. You want some?”

You should cook it first. Being part dragon I could help
