Not the best, but not the worst. Kind if a big jump from being feared to suddenly "protector of equestria." At most, he would have been grudgingly allowed his freedom to come a d go without being harassed, trust and friendship would take a bit longer. And at his age he wouldn't be called protector, not for a long while and certainly not until he proved himself through more trials.
