Dark. Very Dark. But it's so far removed that I can help but be amused by how this is playing out, despite the horror.
uhm... this truly got me surprised in many levels.
Ok, I can post a more comprehensive review now. I've read the entire story and I must say the premise really sucks me in, the Stockpony syndrome and getting cutie marks based on your captor once you accept your new life. How it progresses, the repeated drilling of information, Sweetie Belle slowly converting, until she hit a special tipping point, were all fascinating and I've love to see more in that vein, especially the promises of the full extent of Stockpony syndrome: where after they gain the kidnapper's cutie mark, they begin to think, act, and even look like the kidnapper.
I was not expecting the twist in this chapter to gore. Not saying it was a bad way to go, but it seemed rather extreme for Cheerilee to setup, let alone work on Clara May (after what she's been taught so far, being a proper rich pony with standards). That that is what it took for the cutie mark to appear seems very extreme, but I can roll with it.
I wonder if we'll see Clara May change even more now that she has the cutie mark (which I assume is Cheerilee's cutie mark, since it's only described as 'familiar'.) I mean, she is now supposed to start to think, act, and even look like Cheerilee, but her behavior there didn't strike me as Cheerilee's behavior.
There is a concern of mine in the back of my head though: what the heck is going on outside? Sweetie Belle's been missing for at least a month, if not more, and then her family goes missing on top of it (assuming they were, in fact, her family and not some kind of trick), and one of them is the Element of Harmony. Seems like a big, big deal, and even if the gore wasn't 'true', the remaining two Cutie Mark Crusaders would be going through a very hard time without Sweetie Belle.
I can think of a few ways around these concerns, especially considering the control boxes and the implications of that. I look forward to more of the story, as the Stockpony thing is a fascinating concept to see achieved.
Oh, one final comment: I'm a bit surprised Sweetie Belle is still recognized as such by her family. Wasn't her hair and tail dyed and in a different style? Isn't her voice, accent, and talking patterns different? Isn't she dressed in the extreme filly clothing (complete with diaper) still? (I'm also a bit confused by the comment this chapter that she put gloves on...)
