I'm actually very glad that I picked this time line for the fic. I get to cover Luna's physical changes between season 1 and season 2 (the darker coat and changed mane, among other things), as well as where she got the now-famous Royal Canterlot Voice.

In all seriousness, though, her lack of appearances in the show gives her a lot of potential growth. She makes for a very fun and thought-provoking writing subject, and it's not often that we get to see the relationship play out between her and Celestia.

For the most part, yes. I eventually plan on having Luna finding out her mystery mare's identity (we already know it to be Twilight, of course), and from there, the two of them will write back and forth.

I just have to say that might first thought on reading Chapter 7 was 'Yes Luna. It has a flavor.'

Other than that I'd guess you picked December 21st as Luna's birthday because it's the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere. Or to put it another way, the longest night.

Thank you for the comment. The relationship between Celestia and Luna doesn't get much attention, nor do we ever get to really see what they do in Canterlot on a daily basis. I tried to make up for both of those.

Another good chapter, a little short and I felt a lack of character in Luna this time around.

Luna is what makes this story great, so her character is the greatest importance.

This lack of an edit button is killing me. The meaning behind the dreams was a big part, but by no means was it the entirety of the story. This is about what Luna does during her recovery period, not about what her dreams mean. Still have three chapters (and the epilogue) to go!

Hmm, no offense, but that revelation seemed kind of weak. Okay, so she realized she escaped from Night Mare Moon, so what? It feels like there should be something where she explores what it means for her. It seems lacking. Why would she get so excited when all she's done is realize what is meant by this prophecy that by now has already happened?

Hm. I can kinda see what you're saying, but think of it like this - you have a rubik's cube, and for the longest time, you simply can't solve it. No matter how you try to make sense of it, you never make any real progress towards solving it. One day, everything sorta falls into place, and you manage to figure it out. It took you months to figure it out, but you finally did.

I see it more like Luna being excited simply because she figured it out, not because of the revelation itself.

LongshotLink - I went back and looked over the March chapter again, and everything I had written after the revelation definitely leans more towards Luna being excited from simply figuring out the meaning of her dreams, rather than the second meaning of the prophecy. Keep in mind, they had been bothering her for quite some time - since July. She was more or less excited and relieved to have finally figured it out.

If my analogy from the previous post still confuses you, let me know.

I'd say it's probably just sweets more than anything. She enjoyed s'mores far more than she should have in my other story.

Objectively speaking, this chapter is about utter nothing, drawing and eating.

But still, you manage to pull it off, to establish the character Luna in yet another setting, to prove that you have understood that using a character and  forcing character growth is two different things.

Thanks. It's a fine line to walk, and I've often typed something out, only to go back and delete it because it simply wasn't necessary - either I was expanding Luna's character when I shouldn't, or I was doing something else equally silly.

Still have two chapters (May and June) to go, as well as the epilogue. I might do a bonus chapter for Hearth's Warming Eve/Hearth's Warming, since that's already been announced as the Equestria equivalent of Christmas.

On another note, I've already said this on my actual profile, but I'll say it here for some of the other readers: If you're a fan of Applejack, my next fic will most likely be about her. As much as I love writing Luna (and she is my favorite pony in the entire show), poor AJ is in some dire need of some attention.

The size of the puzzle is a bit small for what you seem to want to convey:  My mother does a few a year and working alone a 1000-2000 piece is only a couple days of casual work, a super-skilled pair of solvers who are working fairly solidly would easily knock that down to a couple of hours.

The one serious reason puzzles tend to top out in the low thousands is that that is where you run into issues of space and reach.  Neither of these apply to the princesses.

I would suggest describing the puzzle as being in the 10,000 piece range, (I've seen a puzzle made of of six historic maps of the Earth, each of which is a ~10,000 piece puzzle on its own).

A fair point, but I never intended for it to be some giant puzzle that they had been working on for weeks or months - just something to spend part of day on. With both of them working in tandem, and thanks to their magical abilities, I wouldn't be surprised if they could solve a puzzle made up of thousands of pieces in just a few moments.

And by 'a few moments', I'd say at least half an hour but no more than two or three hours.

I sort of skimmed the first chapter a while back, and it didn't really reel me in. Eventually, I saw this story pop up again, and figured "ah what the hay it can't be too bad".

I was wrong. It isn't just "not too bad", it's fantastic! You've done an amazing job with this fic, and I'm looking forward to see how this is wrapped up.
