Part of a series of companion fics to each of the "Fiendship is Magic" comics.
Fiendship is Magic #1 Fanfic (Sombra) : Sombra Omega
Fiendship is Magic #2 Fanfic (Tirek) : Madness for Power
Fiendship is Magic #3 Fanfic (Sirens) : Music Wars
Fiendship is Magic #5 Fanfic (Chrysalis) : The Need for Change

Nightmare Moon may be reveling in her triumph over the Nyx and her newfound influence over ponies' dreams, but she is far from completing her goal of spreading eternal nightmares to all of Equestria, and far from completing her banishment of a thousand years upon the moon. Still, the Nyx resist her in their own ways for now...and back on earth, Celestia still has hope for the safe return one day of her little sister.

And, meanwhile, Nightmare Moon experiences her own bouts of distress. Sometimes strange 'nightmares' plague her--nightmares of love and redemption and the pony princess who she used to be. They don't come often, but whenever they do a strange confusion overtakes her. Slowly the years pass, and her confusion grows...until the thousandth year when, signaled by the bright light of her banishment's final full moon, everything the princess of the night ever was is finally set free to return to Equestria again.

"Now a long, long time ago, I gave in to the darkness so, I could have all the power, pitch black for every hour. And though she tried to stop me, I'll rise again, if slowly. For a thousand years I will prepare, this is only the beginning of the nightmare."

5913140 Aw, thank you so very much! :pinkiehappy: I keep being nervous about the reception these companion fics are going to get since I only end up having a few days to write them to get them up the same week that their comics are released, but it's so encouraging to hear you enjoyed this one so much  Thanks again!

5913452 I know what you mean. :facehoof: I think the biggest problem was the writer focused way too much on keeping with the 'comics canon' of the Nyx and creatures living on the moon (basically all the stuff from the 'Nightmare Rarity' arc). I was really hoping for more psychological depth about Luna/Nightmare Moon's experiences, but instead this story killed the whole idea of her being in this great angry solitude for 1000 years by giving her subjects to rule over. And the ending made it seem like now Nightmare Moon had free reign to plague ponies with nightmares, which didn't fit in with her legacy in the show at all. Overall, the angle of explaining why Luna can dream walk was interesting, but I think it would have made more sense to explore that in a regular comic about Luna rather than here.

So far, I think the Sombra comic has been the best. But I believe Katie Cook is writing the Chrysalis comic, so I have high hopes for that one

Oh, this is wonderful. I really like this story. Nightmare Moon's fight over Luna and she is trying to convince herself, that Luna is gone. And still there is this doub. Together with furious rage. A wonderful story!

Thank you very much, I’m glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for favoriting!

The Golum style crazed ravings were freaking glorious even if I don't agree with anything being on the moon with Nightmare Moon. That defeats the whole point. The 1000 years there being a constant mental battle between Luna and Nightmare Moon similar to Twilight and Midnight Sparkle from Camp Everfree is pretty much my headcannon yeah.

The Nyx helping Luna survive is kind of cool but I'd simply rather she had been on her own. Have a like and a favorite.
