BronyPilot

I use this account to track other fan fics and comment on one or two. END OF STORY I may write somethin in the distant future but thats the DISTANT FUTURE.

E

On a warm summer evening, something sinister brews high in the clouds. It is not detected until weather sensors start picking up heavy electrical activity and rain in what seems to be a large storm.

All flights start to divert away except one that is too close, FedEx 715.

The flight enters the storm over Kansas, but as the pilots soon find out, they aren't in Kansas anymore, but instead a land called Equestria that they can't seem to comprehend at first.

How will they interact with locals and what will be the outcome of their sudden arrival?

////// will represent switching from the ATC to the flight. ******is a switch between the flight and Equestria. Other dividers will be created accordingly.

Some abbreviations, such as F/O [First Officer], may be used and will be explained in comments if some don't get it.

Intriguing! As a FedEx employee and (apparent) fellow aviation enthusiast, this story has piqued my interest. It is very well written and formatted, but I would suggest italicizing character thoughts. Also, some terminology, such as TCAS, Traffic Collision Avoidance System, should probably be explained to the reader. I love how you nailed the ATC exchanges! You have a thumbs up and a favorite from me. I look forward to the rest of this story! Is the whole plane going to end up in Equestria?

P.S. Is the 777 used for domestic routes? I thought they were used exclusively for long hauls (i.e. Asia).

580124

I believe that if enough cargo needed to be flown, FedEx would use a large plane. I know UPS uses 767s on domestic routes so...

Plus the 777 is my favourite out of their fleet.

I thought I had those thoughts italicized... Guess I ll have to do a quick edit.

I guess being a VA pilot payed off too (It's how I knew about the exchanges of ATC )

The 777 is a beautiful plane alright. I wish we would get them at our ramp, but I think our gates are too narrow to accommodate the increased wingspan over the MD-11. The MD-11 is a nice looking plane in its own right too. I love watching them take off; goosebumps every time. :rainbowdetermined2:

Sometimes when importing text into this site, formatting gets lost, as I'm sure you've discovered. It's usually worth reading through your chapter a few times to make sure everything is where it's supposed to be. I've made a more than a few mistakes myself. :twilightblush:

MD-11... That gives me an idea for later in the story:trollestia:

Quite curious where this is heading :rainbowwild: As an aviation enthusiast and vatsim flyer, I have to admit, the aviating parts are solid. Good job! I would have liked a MD11 better than the triple seven, but thats all a matter of taste. Are ATC transmissions really that sloppy in Topeka? :pinkiegasp: :pinkiecrazy: Following and faved, so long! :rainbowdetermined2:

580309

I did say the guy was new to the job. Still what do you mean by sloppy?

ah yes another story with the addition of aircraft i must say i enjoy this being a fellow aircraft enthusiast myself and i see what you did there (there not in Kansas anymore) lol

580321 BronyPilot5, disregard last transmission, ATC is perfectly fine now :ajsmug:

resume own navigation :pinkiehappy:

give me moar! :rainbowwild:

(aviation & ponies, so awsome! :rainbowkiss:)

Looks promising... Tracked.

I noticed Rainbow Refereed to it as a plane. Just thought you should know.

Sorry about the late chapter, I have just been really busy lately. I’ll hopefully have the next chapter out sooner than the time it took for this one to get published.

CliiifffffHAAANNNGEEEERSSS!
Everyone is very busy this time of the year.
Please continue.

Help! I'm hanging off the edge of a cliff and I'll surely fall if a new chapter doesn't save me.

Let me guess, they're gonna crash into Sweet Apple Acres?

And please don't ponify the two pilots.

718319

Guess we have to wait and see won't we?

About ponifying the pilots why do you think I'd do a thing like that? :trollestia:

719809

Because I've seen several fics that do exactly that?

720376

Like I said; We. Will. See.

Twilight Sparkle. Fucking things up like she's doing it on purpose.

1121324

"Panic and overreact" is one of Twilight's default mental states.

I know many of you that read this story are also FS enthusiasts so tell me: Who's stoked for the PMDG 777? Eh?:pinkiehappy:

Nearly forgot I had this project :twilightblush:.

I may use this for an upcoming English thing [MAYBE], and that may spur another chapter more quickly in the near future.

Also, I nearly lost all data from my Macbook recently, meaning I had to take it to Applecare and everything and couldn't get back to writing for a week. Overall I must have merely forgot about this chapter in my busy schedule. For the longest time I had the ideas to finish this chapter but I never found time to do so when the ideas came to me, causing me to forget for another while or so.

Be happy I found time before the holidays REALLY start.

Happy Landings

Before I forget, I may obtain a copy of the CS 777 in the near future if not the PMDG 777 [when its released] and analyse it to generate more details in future chapters.

So... you're alive... :trixieshiftright:

Oh well. Looking forward to more.

The fuck, a Desert Eagle?
What were they planning on shooting, Sky-bears?

Well, it's good to see that this is still alive.

YESyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyesyes! I'm so happy to see another chapter of this! Sorry I haven't commented on this before, I got ... distracted.
Anyway!
I don't know if anyone's ever told you this, or even if you'll take it as a compliment (you should!), but as I read your story it materializes in my mind as an episode of Mayday right down to the narration, the descriptions, the communication in the cockpit, the Tower and between the two, the way you use the proper terms and translate them for the viewers/readers ... and in so many more ways I can't properly describe!
Quick question though, when they couldn't find the waypoints, why didn't they switch to magnetic navigation? (you know, using the poles?)

1748395

Lets say that their little dimension jump or whatever you want to call it messed up the onboard compass at the time.

1745032 Probably as an emergency weapon, say, to search for food in case they survived a plane crash but they don't know where they are at (forests are an example for where a gun might be usable).

Couldn't they have just gained some altitude and flown over the clouds?

1817214
Or in case of a hijacker/stowaway. Actually I can't actually recall if it's legal for a gun in the cockpit of a commercial plane.

1888444

To answer that, I like to think of a similar scenario in the airplane crash in the movie Castaway. I imagine the weather conditions in front of them similar to whats displayed on the radar on that Airbus in the movie.

1974530

Wow, when I looked at the title, I immediately thought of that movie!

I'm already eager to read now, it's a very nice take on 'entry to Equestria' already. Needless to say I generally avoid HiE, but this has HAS to be an exception. :pinkiehappy:

wow its rare in a HIE fic for the human to knockout the pony

1974632

Yeah, not to mention Twilight was in a murdering mood earilier (though the pilots don't know that).

How was rainbow dash even able to see something that high up nevermind that it was a different reality at the time?

1976766

When I wrote that chapter I imagined the aircraft was teleported to a lower altitude the first time it 'jumped' dimensions. So it was hit, teleported to a lower altitude, then hit again where it returns to the same altitude it was above Kansas if that makes any sense :derpytongue2:.

Heh, I guess someone (:facehoof: <-) doesn't read much in the horror genre. You should never go into the dark cargo bay of the alien machine. XD

Oh No! Twilight's been captured by FedEx! Boy will those pilots bet into trouble for carrying live "cargo". :facehoof:

enjoying this so far, but this struck me as awkward:

The crew and airspace controller believed the plane had turned to a heading of 058, but the storm had a trick up its sleeve. Unknown to all, there was a field of unknown origin surrounding the storm. It had interfered with the plane’s navigation instruments so that even if the plane read that it was at 058, it was really headed towards the center of the super-cell storm.

Possible re-wording:

Beneath the dials and circuit boards the delicate sensors that determined the plane's heading started to react to the storm, bizarre electromagnetic fields playing across the microscopic circuits. The crew had no way to realize that even though the instruments read 058, the real heading was straight towards the center of the super-cell.

Hehe, 'yay'. I knew some of those terms! I guess 'flying' and reading on FS/VATSIM does that :twilightblush:
Oh well, anyway, about the fic itself;

This was an interesting read. I like the concept where you took the entire plane at full speed into Equestria. Now that's creating havoc right there.
And, yet, you play everything out in a collected manner that makes following the story logical and easy. I mean, there are transitions between different groups, but, they are easy to follow and do follow up from something earlier.

The characters, even if we haven't got very much interaction with Equestria (yet?), seem wellwritten as well. I mean, sometimes maybe they could have said more, not just beeing quiet in the background (ex, the scene with Rainbow in the hospital). But then again, maybe if they said stuff there it would change the scene too much. I don't know, I'm no writer :twilightblush:

Summarizing: Interesting fic with an intersting opening. It's also nice to read how you've managed to weave FIM and aviation toghether, without any loss on any of the parts.

Liked, Faved, and watching you
M

I hope this comment made some sense, if not, my excuse is that it's kind of getting late :facehoof:

Too short, and everyone seemse to be grabbing all the idiot balls.

3358822 I'm making a killing selling all these idiot balls!

I have to wonder, why in the frak would they abandon the plane? They are, I suppose, responcible pilots and should verify if it is in a dangerous state before ever even considering exiting the plane. Then, I am fairly certain, that they would want to secure it at the very least and survey the extent of the damage from the exterior. What moron would say, "Whelp, looks like we crashed a multimillion doller piece of equipment with lord knows how much in cargo, lets go camping in the strange woods just over yonder!"?

Perhaps a bit critical of me, not being a pilot or knowing much about piloting regulations, but I am fairly positive that they wouldn't have done that. On a side note, when did FedEx start equiping its planes with Desert Eagle handguns? :facehoof:

Meh, in any event, this has been a pleasent read and I will continue to do just that.
