“You know what I mean,” Spike groaned, “The L word, Twilight.”
“Oh,” she said, nodding, “Loath.”
“Yes Twilight, Spike sighed deeply, “I’m in loath with you. I loath you with all of my heart, and I have loathed you for five years now. I loath you so much that I want to take you out to dinner soon.” He finally managed to look up at Twilight, a large blush still lighting his face, “If you’ll let me.”

I was following the flow of the story up until this point. Why 'loath' exactly?

"Loath" means to be unwilling, and is an adjective. "Loathe" means to detest or strongly dislike, and is a verb. You can loathe someone, but you would be loath to do that if you wanted to keep their friendship... see? What I'm saying is that I think you meant "loathe."

This was... surprisingly playful on the part of all characters. Which is surprisingly when we consider how much of a dork Twilight is, she doesn't strike me as so spontaneously playful.

But I can accept this well enough.
