Dashie Auditore

T

It has just been revealed who the Mysterious Mare-Do-Well is; Rainbow Dash's friends. All of them, in on this entire ordeal. From plotting to execution, without so much as a pause to consider how Rainbow would feel, or just how far they can go with the Element of Loyalty. Well now they will learn.

After a short while of really difficult thinking, questioning, and consideration, Rainbow Dash will be brought to ask a single question. Can they work it out?

Hmmmm how many times has this been done now? I stopped counting around a hundred or so.

her friends didn't do anything wrong. Dash was being reckless and being who she is she probably would have reacted to criticism with a casual dismissal that she could handle whatever problem the others thought they saw

5817859 I know, I'm two years late to the game. But the point really wasn't to bring it back from the dead or anything. Mostly it's the fact that I just like would like to keep writing. Most other ideas I have for stories are just so lengthy that they are harder to keep focused on and keep writing. So doing smaller stories like the last two I've done keep me interested in writing.

5817861 What I saw was different. I took a bit more of an objective look at the whole scenario. Yes, she was reckless, endangered others, and caused things to happen so that she could be the hero. Dash's friends didn't even try to talk her down, dressed up like a super hero, upstaged her, applauded themselves secretly in front of her, and took the attention of the town and Scootaloo away from her. They could have stepped in without the outfits. They could have shown her how to be humble, respectful, and heroic without upstaging their friend. It would have taken just as much work, and Dash would have still learned her lesson. At least that's how I saw it.

5817859
It's gonna keep happening; I plan on writing one myself in the future.

For now, I, like with every other fic in this group, am just here for the angst and misery.

bleh pretty much all of the fandom hates that episode, so it would be more rare to not see a new popping around. when it comes to rainbow dash fics this topic is among the top ten among with her being raped, being a lesbian or killed.

5817876 is easy to be humble behind a mask

I wonder if it's a coincidence that I've been on a MDW aftermath kick lately. Though, I am rather fond of the lesbian ones I do agree that in most Dash forgives them way too easily.

5817861
The only reason fans were upset with this episode was because their precious wittle dashie got her feelings hurt! poor wittle dashie is being taught a lesson by her friends waahhhh they are being meanies to my dashie! :raritydespair:

5817876
Nope you just see it as DEFENDING MAI WAIFU WAAHHHHH LEAVE MY DASHIE ALONE YOU BASTARDS!

5819137 Actually when I first saw the episode I did like it, still do. I'd be lying if I didn't say it wasn't a creative way of teaching how to be humble and how to take some humility. And yeah the argument could be made, and has been made by me, that if Twilight and the others hadn't been so....what's the word..."extensive" in their actions, that Rainbow wouldn't have learned their lesson. However then the question becomes whether it was worth it to be so "extensive", or if they could have done something else.

5818715 Yeah, like I said, I'm not trying to really do much with this story other than to keep an interest in writing. And that's not to say that the stories with their plot twists, quick forgiveness, or otherwise, aren't creative or good stories by their own right. It might have just been that I haven't searched enough for one, but the main reason I'm here with my version is because it was hard to find one where she takes longer than 15 minutes to forgive them, and even then, needs outside opinions and an upfront confrontation with the others before she would. She doesn't NEED to do those things in every fic, but they take time, give them options, and gives them all an outside point of view.

5819178 i mean about when the mane 5 were talking about how mare do well was so humble and not boast about her feats, is easy to be humble when you wear a mask, so you can boast about your alter ego achievements without anypony thinking bad about you

5819194 personally i like the ones where she just packs up and leaves ponyville for good

You had my interest with the premise.
You have my attention with the authors notes :pinkiecrazy:

I actually feel that everyone's actions were justified in the episode.
At first, since Rainbow Dash's heroics were getting her a fan base, she was justified in letting he ego increase.
But when she started to endanger ponies' lives with her grandstanding, the others were justified in taking her down a peg.
And as for why they didn't try talking to her right away, I see it like this:
If they had tried to get her to stop, then with her ego the way it was at the moment, she would have just said that they're jealous of her, and then their plan probably wouldn't have worked as well.

The episode is one of my favorite of season 2.

5819205 Yes, but all that that means is that you're boasting about yourself in the end. Twilight and the others were Mare Do Well, so to say SHE was humble and that SHE was a good hero, was to say that THEY were humble and a good hero. And I do too, I considered it at first, however as I said before, I'm not well versed in this end of the spectrum. Heck I'm not well versed in many, so I figured I should keep it a little restrained until I can decide if I have the experience to handle...something with a bit more gravity, because her up and leaving would have a bit of weight to it.

5819216 I loved Django. Glad I could get you to enjoy the first part.

Looks promising. I shall be keeping an eye on it. Faved, upvoted, and author Followed.

Done to death, or not.

5819365 You're very welcome, hon.

Can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter.

5819332 that is exactly what i mean they where all about dash being more humble and such when they where the exact same thing as her, while wearing a mask, most heroes wear a mask to protect his loves one from harm not so they can brag about themselves without others knowing

The worst part is that MDW has several easy fixes. When the ceremony honoring her comes up, have all of them show up because each of them thinks they were the best MDW, showing that they've fallen into the same pitfall they accused Rainbow for.

5819466 Oh. Mah. Gawd. That would have been amazing. :rainbowlaugh: They could have done that, all just revealed them self at the parade, they could have stepped in WITHOUT the costumes and acted humble themselves, they could have tied her down and said "Hey, listen, don't be stupid and do crazy things. Be a good hero, not a glory hog." They could have done many things.

5819374 I hope I don't disappoint. But maybe you could tell me something real quick, on my screen your comment has like a blue highlight around it. I haven't been around Fimfic for a good while from my first fic, so there's been changes I don't know about. Just curious what the highlight means.

5819521 Not the person you asked, but i you came here from a notification, it's to let you see which comment is the relevant one

Also, this might shape up to be my favourite one since the comedy story where she falls in love with thhe Mare-do-Well. Not any of the other 6, but the actual costume itself

5819551 Ah, I see. Makes sense now, because now your comment has the highlight. Alright, thanks for the info. :yay:

5819521 Well, you haven't so far, so I don't think that you will.

As to the blue highlight around my comment, there a similar one around the one from you that I'm looking at right now. I think that it just highlights the comment that you're answering at the moment, so you'll know who you're answering. It's no big thing.

And what I do, once I'm done answering a comment, that I just hit the l'il "refresh" symbol beside the "Viewing 1 - however much of however much" (whatever the number happens to be). It's the two little arrow-things going in a circle to the right of the "Viewing" thing.

It kinda makes things neater. For me, anyway.

5819551 That's what I was trying to say. So thank you for putting it better than me.

(And no, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm being serious. You put it way better than I did.)

*facepalm* How many times must I see this same premise appear on the popular stories list? Look, I get that a lot of people were bothered by that episode, I was too, but that doesn't make Dash faultless throughout all of this. Like, remember the time when Rainbow Dash agreed to lie to Pinkie Pie and avoided her like the plague in order to keep her surprise party a surprise? Or how about when she ignored Twilight's worries about completing one of Celestia's assignments? For the love of all that's holy, she didn't even bother taking the ten-plus seconds of time it would have taken to reassure her! What about the wedding, Cadence's wedding? You remember, when Twilight, whom despite being ecstatic upon first hearing about her brother marrying her childhood foalsitter, started talking about how she was acting weird, culminating in a scene where she outright displayed evidence that something wasn't quite right; and every. Single. Pony. Ignored her warnings, berated her for her attitude, and then left her alone to go comfort someone they'd known for less than a day.

I was genuinely shocked when I saw that, I'd thought they'd learned their lesson about listening to their friend, but as it turns out they hadn't learned a damn thing. I mean, honestly, how hard would it have been to check Cadence and Shining Armor for signs of dark magic, a minute, maybe even less? What, did they expect Cadence to act like a Saturday morning cartoon villain? Of course she's going to try and wiggle her way out of this, would a spy tell you they were a spy just because somebody fingered them?

And that's just me working off the top of my head, Rainbow Dash has no moral high-ground from which to defend herself. That's not to say that she's a bad pony, far from it, all I'm saying is that she is flawed, just like everypony else. This whole situation began because she let her own inferiority/superiority complex spiral out of control. A condition for which she has sought no help, or even bothered to share with her five closest friends. As someone who has suffered from a mental illness themselves, I can honestly say that she needs to suck it up, and ask someone for help before it gets her into trouble... again.

I'm sorry about the mini-rant, but this was really beginning to bother me.

5819956 You're absolutely right. Honestly, my favorite MMDW fan fic of all time has to be "No Hard Feelings". It's short, simple, could pass off as a legitimate extension of the original episode, and acknowledges that Rainbow Dash, as hurt as she was by her friends' actions, wasn't exactly a saint herself in that episode. I guess people just crave stories that lick the wound rather than actually healing it, relishing in their beloved characters lashing out and ending friendships for every misstep taken in the show. Well, I'd much rather read stories that combat bitter moments with sweetness, rather than more bitterness. This story will be getting a pass, and for every day I see this in the "Featured" box, I will make sure to reread that other story.

To be perfectly honest, I think you need to slow down a bit, to make clear just how deep the betrayal RD feels is. The whole thing is just to rushed too make me really feel for RD's situation. Give more detail, more conveyed pain, more stuff in general.
Here's an example, since I really just can't resist.

She could still remember the day, because it haunted her ears with the words and plagued her eyes with visions of what had transpired in the ally on 8th street. All five of them, glaring her down, saying that of the six of them, it was her who had gone too far. Her who had brought this all upon herself. Her would made Scootaloo, her number one fan, the closest thing Rainbow Dash had to a sister, up and leave her to admire the new town super hero. Even she could admit now that while she may have stepped over the line, her so called friends jumped right of the same deep end in a carriage and hit her with the door before they launched.

Hadn't they trusted her at all? Yes, she was stubborn and she had had a huge swelled head, but she was loyal. If all five of them, her closest friends, had come to her telling her what she was doing was wrong, she would have never ignored them. It wasn't something she would have done as a loyal friend.

But they hadn't even considered that. They hadn't thought that maybe, even in the depths of her arrogance, she would of course listen to her nearest, dearest, absolute best friends? They hadn't thought that at all?

Had their friendship really been that superficial?

5820095 Thanks. As I said, I'm not well experienced in these types of stories. So like I said here, and like I'll clarify in all the chapters, I don't expect to make people cry nor do I expect the full story to sting down to the core, honestly it's mostly a trial run, and with the Mare Do Well story itself, there's enough milage there for me to take a shot at this concept without too many ways to mess it up. I fully anticipiated the knowledge that people would be tired of this story, tired of the concept, tired of everyone bringing it up, etc. So things like this, tips and advice, are really appreciated.

5819956 She isn't. Dash isn't a perfect wittle waifu. In chapter two she gets just as much blame.

we've already seen what happens when people who aren't friends try to use the Elements, so it's not like this is the equivalent of trying to break up a team

5822210 Not breaking up the whole team, but it did seem that unless all six of them were friends, they'd be useless. So if even ONE felt that she could no longer be the element because her spirit was crushed, that would seem to have a deep ripple effect across the elements.

5822241

that was kind of my point. Luna is talking like "oh no, one of the Elements may leave the team." when it's more like the friendships that make the team matter are falling apart

5822245 She's not really. She's explaining how that would happen, how it could happen, but she's not going to let Dash make such a strong decision without some help and advice. She tells Twilight not to go and get their friend back BECAUSE she's an Element, but because she is their friend. The bond needs to be there more than anything.

Sweet, another chapter. I'm really liking the way you're portraying AJ here. Twilight and Rainbow as well. Enjoying this a lot!

I do agree that both parties are wrong. Rainbow Dash let the attention get to her head and started only helping ponies for fame. Her friends went too far in resorting to costumes and plotting behind her back to get her attention. This, I can understand.

Where I disagree with you, is the idea that both Rainbow and her friends are equally wrong. Call me biased, but I believe that what Rainbow's friends did was far worse. Rainbow was just getting cocky and hitting her stride. Her friends, on the other hand, plotted behind her back, manipulated her, bragged about Mare Do Well's heroic feats (more or less, their own), and they laughed at her and ridiculed her when she showed her frustration. That is straight up betrayal. They ganged up on Rainbow and stabbed her in the back. Both parties might be wrong, but Twilight and her friends deserve more blame than Rainbow. That's my opinion

5829158 I agree with you to that extent, but you also have to remember that Dash also endangered others by causing problems to happen just to be the hero of them. I mean sure, the weather balloon she didn't do on purpose, but still. I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just saying Dash did some pretty dumb and dangerous things as well. If she hadn't endangered so many ponies, I'd probably be right there with you saying that the others did far too much.

5829178 Endangering ponies would be actively putting ponies in harm's way. Choosing to postpone rescuing the weather balloon pony over an autograph isn't really endangering that pony. If Rainbow Dash sabotaged the weather balloon and caused it to fall, then yes, you could say that Rainbow was endangering the weather balloon pony. But Rainbow didn't do that. She was being arrogant and cocky and had the wrong priorities which was wrong of her but I wouldn't equate that to putting lives at risk.

Same thing with the out of control bus and the crane. Yes, Rainbow bragged before trying to save the ponies but she didn't cause the bus to go out of control or the crane to malfunction. Again, Rainbow was putting fame before saving lives, but she wasn't actively putting lives at risk. The only time Rainbow actually did endanger ponies was at the dam. And all she did was cover a crack with her hoof. If the dam would collapse from that, it would have easily collapsed from something else. Overlooking the dam, Rainbow didn't really cause any of the problems; she was just seeking attention. But not saving ponies is not the same as endangering them. Otherwise, we might as well blame the rest of the ponies who stood by and watched for putting lives at risk as well.

5829559 Yeah, I get what your saying. I just kind of live in the mind set where, if saving/helping someone that you can easily do is second priority to you, then you're just risking their lives. To which it was for Dash.

5829564 Fair enough. I just thought I'd offer my two cents

That was so emotional dude, I am tears.

... Yo, was gonna say that.

This is one of the "better" 'expansion fics' on Mare Do Well. Neither in right, acknowledged. It doesn't heft all blame onto one side, let alone one pony. It's just a simple discussion with help from Princess and Zebra.

Jolly good show.
