[ META, OH SO META ] What we call fanfiction, Equestria calls tabloid "journalism". Bearing this in mind, Princess Celestia hired a cynical unicorn and a rather stoic dragon to solve her gossip problems for her by writing two popular stories to help the tides of rumor shift in a manner more pleasing to her. Now it's time for them to face the music for what they've done!

Wait, I'm not doing this right, that makes it sound like a story okay *ahem* OK GUYS THIS IS ABOUT MY OC GUNDAMDARKBLADE, HE IS AN ALICORN/DRACONEQUUS HYBRID MU-- okay not really but it is definitely a meta self-insert fic where I make fun of myself and everybody else, too.

But in all seriousness I'll be shocked if this gets featured, it's basically a gigantic in-joke and completely inaccessible to people who haven't read "Eternal" and "Composure" and are unfamiliar with why Varanus is upset that Celestia only has half his manuscript.

Hmm.. I came here because AA told me to read this story, and must admit to not having read any of your or Varanus' other fics. While this probably limited my enjoyment of the story by ensuring I didn't fully understand all the references, the context usually explained enough about the stories for me to still be at least somewhat amused by Celestia's comments and characterization. Still, I really did feel like I was missing out on a major part of the joke most of the time, though that is obviously no fault of yours. And the ending was pretty hilarious, seeing how I actually know something about AA and therefore understood what you were writing about.

Entertaining, as always. You know I'm a fan at this point, and hell, I've got a soft spot for AA's work too. I jointly blame her and TGWP for really roping me into pony fics, and you and Eternal for chaining me to them and never letting me do anything else with the Internet.

And Composure's in my Read Later queue now. Would've been there a lot sooner, but it kept slipping my mind and I never really stalked it out to do it. And it's crowded in there - the BACKLOG has backlog - so I have no clue when I can sit down and read it. (Was this note only added so I wouldn't feel like a jackass for excluding Varanus? YOU decide!)

Well, you know what this means.

I have to write a spinoff where my OC desperately craves the mane three's approval, but ends up sabotaging himself through sheer enthusiasm.

    With such award-winning lines as:

DH: "Yeah, I've met this guy. You wouldn't know him, he's a Human writer."

AA: "Seriously? Wow, those guys aren't supposed to look so normal."

SA: "But I wrote you a sympathetic letter when you told us all your life was in shambles! Doesn't that mean anything!?"

DH: "Maybe, if you hadn't been one among dozens doing the exact same thing and forcing me to rewrite the exact same letter twenty times."

AA: "You do realize that this whole 'tinkering' business is just you wanting to write science fiction, right?"

SH: "SHUT UP YOU'RE NOT MY REAL MOM"

It will earn millions at the box office.

"I'm sure, and I won a golden fiddle from Nightmare Moon." Why does that sound so familiar

    (begin Charlie Daniels song)

The devil went down to Georgia, he was looking for a soul to steal.

He was in a bind 'cos he was way behind and he was willin' to make a deal.

When he came across this young man sawin' on a fiddle and playin' it hot.

And the devil jumped upon a hickory stump and said: "Boy let me tell you what:

"I guess you didn't know it, but I'm a fiddle player too.

"And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you.

"Now you play a pretty good fiddle, boy, but give the devil his due:

"I bet a fiddle of gold against your soul, 'cos I think I'm better than you."

The boy said: "My name's Johnny and it might be a sin,

"But I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, 'cos I'm the best that's ever been."

Johnny you rosin up your bow and play your fiddle hard.

'Cos hells broke loose in Georgia and the devil deals the cards.

And if you win you get this shiny fiddle made of gold.

But if you lose, the devil gets your soul.

The difference between a ripoff, a tribute, and a coincidence is quite simple, honestly:

    A) Do you like the thing that is being referred to?

    B) Do you like the thing that is referring to the other thing?

If you answered yes to A and no to B, it's a ripoff.

If you answered yes to B and no to A, it's a coincidence.

If you answered yes to both, it's a tribute.

And if you answered no to both, you might be a little lost. That left turn at Albuquerque gets them every time.:derpyderp1:
