She's just the dirty-by-trade tomboy.

This story is a "what-if" sequel of Equinophobia. Prior reading of the linked story is recommended.

Equinophobia was the psychological fear of horses. Now it's gone along with the remnants of her person.

In her desperate and broken state of mind, Ryan had made the faux offer of being integrated into Equestrian society. She never realized the sun goddess would agree with her.

Memories stripped and replaced as she's morphed into a new form, the woman formerly known as Ryan becomes the mare known as Silverbolt.

However, not all the remains of her past can be so easily erased.

Ryan's "offer" takes place in the beginning of chapter twenty-one of the original story in case you don't recall.

Oh boy. Here we go into this dark tale. There are few stories where I simultaneously fear what I would read and yet need to read to see what happens. Congratulations on being in that uncomfortable zone because this story hits it dead center.

I can't help but wonder what kind of flak Celestia got for this from the other Princesses, considering their positions.

I'm sure there was some form of discussion that we will soon see in which Ryan actually agrees to such a mind-wipe. I doubt that even Celestia would've just mind-wiped on forced a transformation on someone without their permission.

IS FINALLY HERE!!!:pinkiehappy:

Oh hell yes.

~OreoKookie

Well I'm lost. If this is a direct continuation of the first... At a guess I can only imagine something went horribly wrong on earth before discord was forced to step in and save her, returning her to Equestria.

All told though this was all tease and cliff hanger... Evil author is evil.

I haven't read this yet, but I really like that subtle use of a Transformers name.

5677122 It's not a direct continuation. It's a what-if scenario from the first.

5678522 ahhhhh thank you. That actually makes a ton of sense. Gah darn phone... Hides so much of main page....

The ways this can backfire on Celestia are many... please let most of them occur...

You should mark this as a sequel to Equinophobia. That way it will be listed on the right-hand sidebar of that story. You might also consider writing a blog post tagged to the first story announcing this story. I recommend these things because if the site moderators find the announcement chapter you posted to Equinophobia, they're going to delete it. For some silly and ill-explained reason, posting a chapter to announce a sequel is against the rules of the site.

I've been distracted by other stories. This reminds me I need to go read the last two chapters of the original story so I can start on this. Hopes are high!

I find I can only like memory wipe/personality rewrite stories (that aren't just straight-up evil mind-control) when either:

A) It's done for a very good reason, such as the individual in question totally unable to handle the memories of their previous self, like they were in massacre (or perhaps even caused one) & they agree to effectively die & be 'reborn' as someone else.

B) The individuals original memories/personality fights to reassert itself.

In the first instance, the individual agrees to 'let go' so to speak, so they can be at peace while something of them still goes on, & in the second they refuse to go quietly, fighting their way back into the light. These are important to me as it's all about will & personal identity, & not letting it be overridden arbitrarily.

Upon first glance this story appears to be straddling the 2. Maybe Ryan agreed to this, maybe not, but if she didn't I want it to blow up in Celestia's face in short order, & if she did, I still think it's a good thing that they all see that an individual cannot be 'rewritten' so easily.

5685708 the author said that this is a deviation from that point in the first version
Ryan thought Celestia never let go, and try to find a solution, try to choose the lesser evil, continue as a human and suffer or convert and forget everything.
Celestia had to decide whether to let her go or not, in the original version I leave go

but in this version, chose to convert and erase the memory of ryan.
So I Celestia took advantage of the desperation of ryan

it has so many ways to go to hell, moon annoying by the actions of Celestia, twi disappointed by the actions of his master, discord could take advantage of that to annoy Celestia, ryan could recover memory and suffer a strong mental trauma and terminate injuring

look's good I loved the original so I am hoping this is as good if not better.
Harts fire

So it seems the memory grafts are taking. Next question is how many other ponies are in on the secret...
Keep going! ;)

Short intro, but then we already know her from the first story.

Already seems set to be quite the trip. Intriguing.

It's looking good so far.

Great use of dissonance, I have to say.

5696784 Can I ask what you mean by dissonance? I'm following your usage of the word. :derpytongue2:

5699333 In which the narrative describes events in a way so as to unsettle the reader. Not blatant grotesque or grimdark imagery, but describing extraordinary events as a matter-of-fact or describing horrific concepts in pleasant terms. For example, the classic dystopian novel, 1984, ends with the line "He loved Big Brother." The narration is seemingly innocuous in isolation, but when combined with elements from the rest of the story, become discomforting. Sort of like Fridge Horror, except broader.

tl;dr literary Uncanny Valley

Holy crap. My return to Fimfiction could not have been better. Waz gonna happen?! Iz she gonna remember her human life eventually?! What will happen if she does?! Gah! Confuzzle-ization! :rainbowlaugh:

Considering my habit of devouring stories like cheap candy, I've asked myself "What if?" a ton. Getting both a "normal" ending and an entire spinoff based off of a what if? Best thing EVER!

We don't see these as a threat, but at the same time do.

“Are there any bars nearby?”
I am betting vinyl may know ware a bar is.
a good chapter I am interested to see how silver(Ryan) is going to fit in too town.

Hehe good chapter. Thanks!

“Are there any bars nearby?”

:fluttershyouch:

Yeah, the equinophobe going bar-hopping as a mare is just going to end in gum-drops and rainbows, ain't it?

Me thinks Celestia let the 'prototype' for her glorious plan trot out the door a bit too quickly, is all I'm saying. :facehoof:

I'm getting the feeling that we'll be seeing some Nightmare action soon...

She has no bits! As far as I know, anyways...

Interesting, the negative reinforcement applies even to daydream recollections....
Good thing she isn't questioning why the princess would take such keen interest in a fairly average pony....
Keep going! ;)

Okay. Okay. Did Celestia not realize who her new neighbors were, or what? There are so many ways this can backfire it's not even funny. Okay, maybe a little bit funny.

5716731 Celestia doesn't know much about Vinyl. Only that she was mentioned once as one of Ryan's Silverbolt's friends that helped her. I would doubt she would remember the random name, especially since there's so much bigger things happening.

5718087 Good point. Intentional or not though, her mistake won't end well. Can't wait!

I’ve never lived in an apart—Ech!

There's a part of me, while reading this, sincerely hopes that a goat rips out Celestia's throat in future chapters. :ajbemused:

Seriously, screwing with someone's mind should require Celestia to make a Dark Powers check. Violating the sanctity of someone's mind is the same as brainwashing someone, and here we have Celestia the bigot trying to sweep this under the rug and pretend her hooves are clean.

... and my earlier reference just makes me wonder what the Dark Powers of Ravenloft would cook up to torment Celestia forever...

Damn, having vinyl as a neighbour... The memories shall return and the feels...?
The feels will be GLORIOUS!

> migrane

ooh, Celestia ya dun goofed

I cannot imagine Celestia agreeing to something like this. She be like "Yeah you think it's a good idea now but who's going to raise the sun when everypony gets scared I'm gonna turn them into ponies, and imprisons me on the face of it? Luna, that's who! How long do you think it'd take before she forgave you for getting me incarcerated? You be like 'Please princess Luna can I die yet?' and she be like, 'I SHALL WEAR YOUR SKIN AS A VEST TODAY' and you be like 'But Lunaaaaaa'" and then whatserface humanpants nopes her way right out of the throne room.

...just wanted to say this story is sort of inspirational, in a terrible, terrible way. It's all your fault. Just letting you know.

“Well, I could check for the next train ticket, but for all I know, that’s tomorrow…” Celestia lead, a wry grin on her lips.

Or you could just erase her fears of flying as well Celestia why don't you...
:twilightangry2: WHY I OUGHTA!

5713837 There'll be terrible memories, pastel colored fillies and foals popping out of places!:pinkiehappy:

Why discord should just snap his fingers and get her memories back, then LOL very hard about it and call Celestia on it saying "U A NOOB PRINCESS, gahahaha!":rainbowlaugh:

And Celestia will be all:
WHY MY PLAN NO WORK?

Well Celestia, that's because:

Put the pieces together Vinyl

Still want to see our little ponies have their respect for Celestia shatter like glass before the brick for doing this. :ajbemused:

Surprise Pinkie didn't show up by now...

5825235

Surprise Pinkie didn't show up by now...

Well, if you think about it, Silver is technically not new to Ponyville...

5824806

Technically, it was Ryan's fault... Celestia can't be completely blamed.

5826355 Not seeing how. Ryan was broken and in a moment of weakness she gave an answer akin to suicide. Celestia bought it for an easy fix to the situation. What Celestia did was no different than brainwashing.

ok so the big question is just who much does Ryan remember of her past life?

5826638

Not really. She was broken, lost and had no idea what to do. She may have taken advantage of it, but princess celestia could have legitimately thought she was being serious and now princess luna is frustrated over the whole situation and twilight's probably feel the same way, which means they could both think what they want.

We haven't really gotten an explanation in her perspective.

5826714 Actually, we kinda do. If you read the other story then you know Celestia is an admitted bigot when it came to Ryan (and humans in general). If we take all that we found out about here there, then it doesn't paint a very good picture for Celestia here.
