I like how this went though I actually think I would have liked it better without the third chapter. The second chapter gave you all the hints you really needed to know what was going on and with just a few tweaks would have been enough to carry your intentions. I think the explanation at the end just isn't as good as making us think for it.
As for more somebody needs to come and cheer Pinkie up. Maybe Dash should come over...

If you did not do a good job earlier in the story then I think the third chapter as is would have been required but I think you did a good job of giving us all the info we needed to come to the correct conclusion by the end of the second chapter. At least I could for sure. I do think that if the third chapter was eliminated then you would need to add some bits to the 2nd chapter to bring out all that you want to. I think it is fully possible.
Don't give up on a third chapter though as a lot can be done with one I just think that an explanation chapter is not required.
