On the Day of Remembrance, Twilight observes the sombre memorial to the fallen Royal Guard ponies.

this was very good. I sugguest putting a description, however. You'll get more readers that way.

I thought I did have that in there. Apperently not. Fixed.

Where was Luna?

I liked this piece a lot - and I'm not the sort that demands Luna be in every story, but it'd be appropriate for her to be present here.

All the same, bravo.

I had planned to include Luna, but I just wasn't satisfied with how it was working out, so I simply removed her, instead of letting her flounder as little more than an over-glorified background-pony.

I thought it would be kind of strange to have Luna in there, myself. As Nightmare Moon, and corrupted by greed and other evil little things, she and her own forces probably warred with the Royal Guard before Celestia banished her to the moon. Maybe she stayed behind out of guilt? :twilightsheepish:

i feel like this fic is really underrated ....this was fantastic

This was a very touching story. That song, no matter how its adapted, always gives me goose bumps.
