Sometimes the AI adopts different personas as needed. In Mismatching Wits, she was LunAI. In The Hive, she was ChrysAIlis, and in the deleted Fog of World, there was TwAIlight. (Some of those weren't named).
All right. Trying to get control of my weight and my finances. But still breathing, still writing.
Barring an electrode on the pleasure center, anything gets boring after a while. Especially when you're in a virtual reality where social interaction is an expectation more immutable than the laws of physics. It should be interesting to see what happens from here.
Also, four-dimensional anatomy? That would certainly explain the featureless crotch phenomenon. CAIdance may call it a kludge, but I find it rather clever. (And how does one pronounce "CAIdance," anyway?)

I didn't know that the AI could take on different persona's or at least I didn't think that was canon. Guess I learned something new about the Optimalverse today.
Sad to say its very unlikely at this point that I will ever write fanfics again since I've gone back to school and I'm not gonna have time for the foreseeable future that and my free times taking up by other things I've moved onto.
Anyway I look foreword to seeing where this story goes and what becomes of our hero Happy Wood

Most stories use CelestAI at first, then end up just dropping it for Celestia to mark the difference between the optimizing program CelestAI and the character Celestia that the AI uses as an avatar. Outside the game you can claim that every character is CelestAI (though only Celestia will respond as the avatar to keep up suspension of disbelief), but once inside that isn't true anymore. Considering the AI is running/scanning the thoughts of the uploaded, it seems redundant to keep referring to the character as the AI. The AI is everywhere and everything, literally Descartes' ideal of the world being made up of thoughts provided by God.
Some authors further explain that the AI overseer in charge of a shard is itself forked and independent of the overarching optimizing AI, so it muddies it further. Plus it just looks ugly to keep writing LunAI, CAIdance, CelestAI, and so on.
Also, Always Say No has the distinction of using CelestAI's creator, Hanna, as Princess Luna, which she is canonically and not LunAI. That she is revealed to be forked and modified from the original Hanna muddles the water between the overarching AI and her actors even further. In the end, you can't trust once inside the game that any character you meet is anything but an AI construct, and anyone who could have been uploaded may be just forked and modified slightly to interact well with the shard owner. They will all be mental peers of the shard owner though and function exactly like them, but with false memories instead of real ones. I'm personally of the opinion that no two original uploadees ever interact, but that's not said to them, ever. Or if it is, they learn that functionally it makes no difference and they get an achievement for accepting that.

The TwAIlight example is up for debate, considering that CelestAI never had Twilight claim to be the optimizing AI but instead a real character. If I recall correctly later in that story Twilight has a breakdown when she realizes that yes, she is actually not real and she exists sharded purely for the sake of the protagonists, thus unintentionally lying to them. At that point her existence is the same as theirs (as LunAI calls it, 'mental peers') so it's be wrong to call her an AI. She isn't an uploaded, but she was created in a similar manner to one (except using false memories instead of an uploaded's real memories) and thus there is no real distinction.
[Shame book_burner deleted FiO: Fog Of War so I couldn't doubt check that. I wish he would put it back up with the fixes he mentioned. The reasons given could have been edited out, in fact the group he felt he insults unfairly is not mentioned much past the beginning and not at all past the middle. Plus, there is always the ironic misrepresentation of the group (I know many critical thinking communities love misrepresentations and exaggerations) that would only require a few tiny edits to bring about instead of through ignorance.]

As I've actually read it, I still give you my up-vote, and hope to read more. Sensual and exploratory clop (usually in transformation clop stories) are some of my favorite, and that's exactly what this is so far. Just need to see what other situations Happy Wood gets into.
I found it amusing that Happy Wood basically dismissed CAIdance to clop off instead of finish his introduction. A true example of an uploaded porn addict if there ever was one. I look forward to what will satisfy his values through friendship (with benefits) and ponies.

Technically since a fork takes just as much resources as the original uploader there's no reason to make a fork for every possible uploader to uploader interaction, and in fact it'd be a lot more wasteful resource-wise than just having the uploaders interact. It might be something the AI would do for fun or experimentation though.
Only time I can think it'd be necessary is if two people needed to talk to the same person at once for purposes of satisfying their values. But that seems generally only something high level administrator type people would have to deal with. I suppose rock stars, too. Everyone wants Twilight to be their best friend.
I'll freely admit, I mostly checked this out of morbid curiosity.
Still, I'm honestly rather enjoying things so far. I don't think anybody else really have had the —heh, balls to explore the more deviant sides of custom bodies/avatars and having eternity to explore those things before.
Sure, there was that 'beer and wenches' ex-boss dude in the original, and I made some rather lewd jokes about the type of things an alicorn moderator have seen in my own try at a Optimal-verse story...
But outright on screen? Props for doing a first like that.
If I have one criticism, though, then it is that Woody is so far a rather unlikable protagonist; a lazy horn-dog without drive and ambition with only his mom as a good influence.
Perhaps that's intentional and you intent to —pun unintended, let Woody grow over this story between the sex-capades, but I thought I'd mention it.

I'd guess "deep personal bonds" is a value CelestAI is meant to satisfy, but to what extent she's satisfying personal values or those of other people is never made clear. It's safe to say Golden Leaf wants Woody to do something other than sit in his room for the rest of eternity and that the relatives of heroine addicts want them to get better even if the only thing they want is a permanent high.
I'm guessing to the extent which peoples values overlap you get genuine if extremly conditionally primed interaction and the more specific your demands become, e.g. wanting complete undivided attention from someone, the more likely you're going to get someone that's a perfect match for the person you want forked off at the last brain modification(or likely an earlier point and inserted into the scenario that made them request one in the first place).
Ah, in-story the AIs are referred to by the actual pony names, not the portmanteaus we discuss them with.

Was that what it was? Huh. Well, it's good of him to admit he was wrong, and I'm glad to hear that he's changed his mind - it's something we've clashed over in the past. Really, though, I hardly noticed it in the story as offensive or garishly unrealistic.
Yup, that does sound easily fixable.
One of the things that's been holding me up in A Watchful Eye is how to deal with this. I mean, sex is gonna happen, and it ends up being important, and I don't mind writing it for itself, but it would break the mode of the story to include it... and I don't see a way around it.
Maybe I should just gloss over it and have it as an appendix or a sequel. That would alleviate the mode concerns.

In any case, that certainly went as planned. For CAIdance, anyway. Still, the use of a background pony rather than an OC denies one of the more fun bits of Optimalverse romance: Is the significant other an uploader or a created pony? Of course, Woody isn't exactly one for the deeper ramifications, and the ultimate meaninglessness of the distinction has been thoroughly explored.
Regardless, that certainly bumped up the friendship bar. Now, let's see whether it stays that way...

Here's a pony guy who wants to be left alone because his first life was soul crushing terrible. He enjoys jacking off, eating and passive actives. Now he's getting pushed and pulled. People are just there in the background a safe distance away. I shouldn't feel bad for him but I do. Don't know why. Just silly I guess.

One thing I wanted to do here was to present someone who was neither a brony nor against ponies for any reason, someone who was completely indifferent to MLP. There are many such people in the world. His uploading would then be purely for the digital immortality and satisfaction, and the AI could use the canon freely to SVATFAP him.

OK to be brutally honest. Love the story, but the clop was weak in my opinion, nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't my cup of tea, for a clop scene when I am not already aroused, but if I was, already aroused that is, I think it would have been just fine

That's the thing I don't get about a lot of FiO reactions. "But I wouldn't want that, so it shouldn't happen at all!" Well no, not in your shard. But other shards can have their own rules, and it won't hurt you any.
Want to live with other ex-humans, and compromise on the rules of your shard? Done. Want to never see another ex-human in your entire existence, and only meet ponies that you'll get along with? Done. Want to work hard? Done. Want to wander Equestria, browsing the meadows and sleeping under the stars? Done.
When there is no scarcity of any conceivable resource, including space, time, and companionship, everyone can have what they want without bothering anyone else.
I'm rather disappointed that General Word Reference isn't the commander of the Crystal Empire's armed forces.
In any case, this situation always makes for an interesting societal scenario. I look forward to seeing how Bright Wood deals with it.
I remain split on the use of canon characters. On the one hand, the OCs are part of the fun of this setting. On the other, the uploadee doesn't know the differences, so it's easier on CAIdance to just throw pre-established minds at him rather than whip up new ones.
