No minute is Best Minute

T

Hearts and Hooves Day is a sorry excuse for a holiday. Maybe it's the fact that most of her dates tend to get eaten by manticores, but Daring Do has long since given up on risen above any longing for romance.

But that doesn't mean she's not 100% okay with slinking into the Sugar Cloud Confectionery to hit up their sale on rainbow truffles. Hay no. This is her most important quest of the year.

Hopefully it doesn't end up like last Hearts and Hooves Day.

Stupid Wonderbolt.

A slightly late Valentine's Day fic.

That was a nice story. I never thought of Fleet being Darings type or so.

So as far as you're concerned, Ahuizotl suddenly and inexplicably crashes into the confectionery, and Fleetfoot duct tapes magical swords to her wings while I pelt him with exploding bonbons. And then we charge dramatically through ancient temples, chased by pie-wielding fire demons. And stuff.

Way to bullshit your way through the holidays Daring! :rainbowlaugh:

I kiss her.
I close my eyes and wrap my forelegs around her, trusting my special talent to find her lips for me and bring her home. Her warm body against mine is sweeter than any truffle, more enchanting than any taffy. She's an entire continent of unexplored wonders, melting into my embrace and kissing me back like the fate of the world depends on it.
A.K. Yearling doesn't write love stories.

Somepony is mad.

Hyperbolic? Maybe, but screw it:

This is the best depiction of Daring Do on the site.

Well goddamn am I glad I randomly clicked on this.

Loved the story!

I really liked Daring Do's characterization; almost like Rainbow Dash if she halfway articulate. It's too bad that FimFic's typical filtering of quality stories, spurred from its democratic mechanic, left it to be obscure. For my part, at least, I enjoyed it and will remember it as one of the better examples of stories here.

5635511 Thank you! Before this story randomly turned into a romance, I had never even put Fleetfoot and Daring in the same thought. I'm still not sure where the idea came from.

5635558 Hyperboles are basically humanity's greatest contribution to the universe. Seriously, though, thanks for such a high praise!

5638086 Hot damn, am I glad you did, too!

5638404 This story (and I) love you! Thanks!

5639437 Awesome, I'm glad you enjoyed it! Treating Daring and Dash's personalities as different shades of the same color definitely made this fun to write.
Drats! I'm still not 100% clear on the nuances of how Fimfiction runs, but being doomed to obscurity can't be that bad... I still have the personal satisfaction of knowing I tried my best blah blah comments like yours make it okay :raritywink:

You know, I just realised that I've basically been writing mini-reviews and not shown them to the author - so here's what I put about your story in my recommendation thread for the You Might Like This group:

I'm going to go ahead and give this guy "new author of the month" because goddamn is this good. An absolutely fantastic portrayal of canon Daring Do (which is a rather odd thing to say, but still), glorious prose and a funny story to boot. And I do mean glorious prose - this guy(? gal?) has a hell of a way with words. I was hooked on every sentence.

Seriously man, this is an amazing first effort - I wish mine could have been this good.

Oh oh oh! This was a damn good read. Great Daring Do, awesome and amusing action, splendid candy, and a surprisingly sweet romance beneath all the adventure stuff.

...

...

...

This will be going with the GOOD stuff...

Daring Do and the Destroyer of Worlds: coming soon to everywhere.

This might have been the single best line in the story.
You also made me like Fleetfoot again, so cheers!

"Sister!" It's not exactly a voice loud enough to shatter your eardrums, but it's still pretty intense. "You were indeed correct. These delicacies do warrant the existence of this pitiful holiday.

Missing quotation marks at the end.

Fantastic work. I love how Daring is so similar to Dash at her core, but covered in a layer of emotional calluses. Somehow, the romance genuinely works. Thank you for this.

Absolutely hysterical I loved it!

AAAAAAAAAAA SO GOOD

5639932 Oh, wow, thank you so much! I'm honored!

5639942 Ahh, thanks! I'm glad you liked it! My only regret is that rainbow truffles don't actually exist... :fluttershysad:

5640202 Mission accomplished! Fleetfoot and Spitfire have both been just awful in the show, so I'm glad this was able to get Fleet back into your good graces. Thanks a bunch for including this story in your bookshelf!

5640242 Good eyes, thanks for catching that.

5640377 No, thank you!

5640479 Yay! :pinkiehappy:

5640952 OMG THANK YOU

Spitfire at least seems to have a sort of... relaxed off-duty personality and a stern, and kind of bitchy, on-duty personality.
Still, she has started to come off as very form-over-function lately, hasn't she? At least she has shown a willingness to listen when somepony calls her on it.
As for Fleetfoot, well...this story is headcanon'd until the show shows otherwise. :raritywink:

And thank you for writing it! This story is likely to get you more than a few stalkers watchers. :ajsmug:

Adorable and really well-written! A bit hard to follow at times, but that may just be a result of the style it's written in, which is a fantastic style and doesn't need to be changed.
I'm a fan!

This was just waaaay too cool! I loved every second!

Heart warming, good job. You managed to surprise me with A. The ship and B. The fact that it actually worked, you get an Internet highfive!

5642851 Definitely. I'm hoping she gets a bit of screen time as a protagonist this season.
Yes! Slowly but surely, I will amass an army of followers so that we can spy on each other achieve world domination.

5642880 Thank you so much! Some parts of this were rushed a bit, so it's entirely possible that they didn't get as much detail as they needed. I'm glad you still were able to enjoy the story!

5642954 You're way too cool! :coolphoto: Thanks!

5643979 Awww, yeah! *Slaps high five at screen.*

INCREDIBLE. The perpetual action and the beautiful descriptive language and and and. Oh man. :raritystarry: Way to make me care about two side characters I rarely think about.

Excellent work. A nice blend of romance, emotion and adventure. (Because Daring Do, obviously.) You also successfully avoided the dreaded "A is in love with B for absolutely no explained reason and the author expects the readers to just accept it". (Needs a better name.) Instead you conveyed Daring's confused feelings by, well, showing her feelings and leaving the interpretation to the readers. It's difficult to do, but you managed to pull it off to great effect.

So yes, very good. My only complaint is that it's occasionally a bit difficult to keep track of what's going on, but that's due to Daring's commentary rather than bad writing.

5648853 Thank you so much!

5650234 Yes! Glad I avoided the A-hearts-B-Deal-With-It thing. :yay: Thanks for clarifying that it's Daring's commentary clouding up the action; now I can write it off as an unreliable narrator and pretend it was all part of the plan hehe.

This is one of the best romance fics I've read and definitely the best Daring Do story I've read. My dress hat off you.

Faved three paragraphs in, and now completed I am entirely pleased with that decision. A very fun read!

5656377 Haha, thank you! I'm flattered. :raritywink:

5660250 I'm glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the fave!

Daaaaaamn You ain't got any bad likes!
~Azalea

This was a hoot and a half to read, with a happy ending to boot. Thanks 5639932 for convincing me to finally read it.

5678148 awww yeah :rainbowdetermined2:

5693241 Glad you enjoyed it! :)

5704312 You're so awesome!! Thanks!

Well... that was pretty much perfect. :yay: I mean holy cow, what didn't this story have? Adventure, laughs, unexpected romance, this one had it all. Your 1st person POV was extremely professional, reminded me of the mastery that authors like Chengar Qordath have over it. You also managed to paint a distinct character for Daring Do that really felt like what the inner thoughts of an author/adventurer should sound like. Finally, I greatly appreciated your utilizing two sorely under-appreciated characters, not to mention Fleetfoot's adorable (but thankfully only occasional, nice touch by the way) lisping. There's really nothing bad I can say about this one, it's really just perfect, and thank you so much for entering it into our contest. You put together a truly special and thoroughly enjoyable one-shot, here, Fahrenheit. :scootangel:

5741447 Wow, that's some seriously high praise! :pinkiegasp: Thank you so much--for both judging the contest and sharing your thoughts! I'm very glad you enjoyed it!!

A fitting first place winner if I ever saw one. This was a really excellent story, and might I say you have quite the way with words

Also damn you to Tartarus I really want some of those candies now...

5752941 Thank you very much! As for the candies, you and me both :raritywink:

You know when someone starts a story with "the point is that I am quite happy with my life, thank you",
that pony is in for quite a ride XD. Oh, and dat story title ahahaha!
"than think of the fact that I'll be stuffing my face with sugar, alone, because all my love interests either get eaten or get away before I get a second date."
I really love this XD.
"Where's an editor when you need one?" "Pierre's Overpriced Pansy Pasta" "I wish I could wear pretty colors." She's still tough, she just has to... uh... siphon off the excess emotion. Yeah.
Ahaha XD. Eeee!! Haha! Ehe!
Et cetera.

Daring Do's self-narration, her ego and self-obsession, and the way she intersperses literary anecdotes
and "vaguely romantic similes" between her tales of adventure is just gold :D. She's such a dolt.

Could she have been looking at my— no. Definitely not. Ahaha XD
she didn't even say goodbye Squee! I mean, not that we were, ah, dating or anything B-baka! XD
I kiss her. Aaah!! :D

No, must stop quoting story. It's right there. Above this.
Anyway, the point is, I enjoyed it a lot :pinkiehappy:

5760304 Hehe, I'm glad you liked it! :D

Fantastic story, I adored it! The literary enthusiast in me says that this blends the perfect amount of adventure with romance, but the shipper in me wishes for more of the latter. :rainbowkiss:

Thanks for writing this, and making my morning.

5791938 !!!!!!!!!!!

5793305 No, thank you! So glad you enjoyed it!

I loved this story when I first saw it on Fimfiction. Congrats on getting featured on EQD!! This story was just so true to character and I was laughing the whole time. Great ride and a terrific plot. Thanks you!

5795117 Thank you!! I'm so thrilled; I never imagined this story would get so far! :yay: Thanks for your support and nice words :)

You are very welcome! Looking forward to more.

She makes a rude gesture with her hoof, which I graciously ignore.

Let me guess, it looked like this.
fc06.deviantart.net/fs71/i/2012/356/e/9/pony_hooves_cursors_by_lktronikamui-d5oibz4.png

Can you be anymore offensive? :raritydespair:

Nice story, btw.

5814128 Those hoof gestures... Downright rude.

Thanks!

I stumbled randomly over this story (browsing for Fleetfoot-stories)

Have to say: I am truly impressed. I love the characterization of both of them and the hilarious plot you throw them into.

Have my like and this story goes on my fav-shelf. Its worth a re-read sometime.
