Rarity is well known for her melodramatics, but it turns out she's been performing a part longer than any of her pony friends ever imagined. See how this human-turned-filly became the mare she is today. Watch as she takes her final bows on the closing night of her role as unicorn seamstress.

This was great! Not what I expected at all. Very Rarity.

But I am sad at the implication of what will happen in five years.

Why is this NOT sad? I feel sad.

There must be a continuation! I must know what happens next!

Great story, btw. You got me at the edge of my seat the entire time!

Hey, Rarity, you figured out it's a curse. I can think of like 6 people know know who should be able to break that for you. Twilight, Zecora, Luna, Celestia, Discord, Cadence, and possibly you if you crack open a few spell books.

Great so far but a few holes in the plot. Number one-if she was five when she came to equestria then she's only been there 17 years and is thus 39 not 44. Number two- really, a magic bartender who curses every customer that cusses him out? He must do that to at least 100 people a year. I'm sorry but that backstory is hard to believe.

Don't take my criticism the wrong way because I am a big fan of your work and I really am loving this story.

Amazing! this fit her character perfectly and now i can kinda see rarity as a miner with her coat grey from dust and soot.

Interesting concept, I like it. The language got a bit too flowery in some places, but it was still an enjoyable read.

Yeah, the bartender bit is a little hard to swallow, for the exact reason you mentioned. I'm imagining a sequel where Rarity tearfully tells her friend that next year she'll vanish to some other world, and all her friends are like "oh, you swore at that guy too?" and then sorting out a way to get in touch with each other if they all end up in the same world over the next few years.

Awesome story. Loved reading this.

5443978 Meh, the bartender bit might have been that a supernatural creature, anthropomorphic personification, or magical possession was stuck bartending for one night. Or that it was a normal gothic bartender whose curse only ever worked once every ten years when the stars aligned, or something. Or someone brought a make-curses-actually-work MacGuffin to the bar that night by accident. Or Rarity herself was magical and susceptible to suggestion when drunk, and cursed herself.

When Rarity wakes tomorrow as a mare, she will realize that she forgot to take into account those 5 years, thus has 5 years to go. If she would explain her problem to Princess Twilight Sparkle, Princess Twilight Sparkle might be able to send her home or stablize her so that she can stay in Equestria. Speaking about Equestria:

Mine understanding is that Equestria is a nation. The fanon name for the world is Equus —— ¡the nonequines probably have something to say about the name! Equestria is the hyperpower of Equus —— ¡the 2 Royal PonySister can either bake other nations under never-ending sun or freeze them under never-ending night!

"oh, you swore at that guy too?"

For some reason, I can't stop laughing at this. Twenty years of drama and self-pity, and meanwhile everyone else had just gone "...huh," and gotten on with their new lives. It'd explain why Pinkie was nothing like her family, why Applejack never knew her parents, why we know next to nothing about Rainbow Dash's and Fluttershy's families, and why Twilight was such an oddity/prodigy (and why she got overseen by alicorns/royalty most of her life, if her arrival was noticed).

Maybe Princess Twilight Sparkle could send her home or stabilize her so that she can stay.

I was actually imagining them all have gone through variations of Rarity's experience, but I do like the idea that Pinkie just saw that she was adorable and could be really weird without anyone judging her and decided that her new life was way better than her old one. Actually...

Pinkie didn't like her human life, because being an irreverent and silly person doesn't end well when you're surrounded by people with sticks up their asses who, collectively, control your life (teachers, employers, relatives, etc). After losing her temper at a bartender while drinking her sorrows away, she woke up as a pony and was adopted by some rock farmers. After discovering that they liked her outgoing nature, she found true happiness and secretly dreads the day she returns to her old life on Earth.

Applejack grew up watching movies where family bonds were everything, but most of her relatives were distant or never available. Her parents loved her but had very demanding careers, and neither were very good at parenting (not out of malice, they just didn't understand Applejack very well and didn't realize how neglected she was). The parental neglect combined with her idealized view of family bonds meant that after the Apple family took her in, she basically abandoned her old life entirely, having little to go back to. Like Pinkie, she really doesn't want to go back.

Fluttershy actually had a great life on Earth, mostly. She got along well with people and found a fulfilling job as a veterinarian's assistant. However, after an incident involving some of the Animal Liberation Front she became rather paranoid, having trusted the man that went on to firebomb her workplace. She went to a bar to try and drink away her memories of the fire, and angered the bartender by constantly trying to make him listen to her rant about the vet clinic. Waking up as a pony and realizing what happened, combined with the ALF guy, made her afraid of other people--since she had been hurt badly both by trusting someone and by (in her mind) being the aggressor, she became deeply afraid of upsetting others. She does enjoy the closer connection she has to animals, and the fact that you can generally tell the difference between "jerk" and "evil incarnate" at a glance, however.

Rainbow Dash was basically the exact same person as a human, except that she drove racecars and had fewer friends. Not having any friends or relatives that she especially misses, she's just enjoying the wings and the extremely lacking safety laws about flying.

I'm having trouble sorting out Twilight, but something with her being a student on her way to destroying the grade curve and going to the bar in an ill-fated attempt to blow off some stress. I do like the idea that the princess realized there was something off about her, though. That's got potential. "So, remember how I told you I was originally a bipedal primate in her twenties before I was sent here...? And that friendship report about friends sharing a special connection even before they've met...?"

Hmph, it's marked complete, but that is definitely a cliff hanger. I am not appeased!

My interest, enthusiasm, and optimism always take a small blow when I come across parts of the fanbase that believe Spike is not important to any given mane six pony where all goddamn five of the others are. It makes sense when they're called upon to tackle an economic crisis or consolidate their friendship-fueled magic to save the world, but when it's about who the pony values, all I see is depressing bullshit. And in this tale, on her birthday and her supposed last chance to see him, you're heavily implying that Spike's friendship is not as important to her as her bond with the mane six. Perhaps it's not significant in the same way, but it is crystal clear, in canon, that he is very important to her. Fine prose and far-fetched plot notwithstanding, the subtext in this story is a real downer.

[sarcasm]Thanks for the great recommendation[/sarcasm]. I'll never get that time back.

Your projection onto Spike notwithstanding, this is obviously an adult party.
You know with drinking and whatnot, not exactly the best place for children.:unsuresweetie:
If friendship or love was the matter, don't you think Sweetie Belle would be there, or her parents?

Besides, if you're going to argue 'subtext' I'm going to go ahead and point out that I doubt that Rarity is a pedophile, and doesn't care for Spike in a 'different way'.

I can't imagine why this doesn't get more attention. Its as good or better than The Man With Two Names.

best compliment I've got all week :)

This was wonderful, just wonderful. You're wonderful, too. :fluttercry:

There is a third act coming, right?

7312907

I wasn't really planning on it, haha. I wrote this more as a character study of Rarity than anything else, and as a way to sort of look at her mannerisms through a different light, and explain why she blatantly disregards her cutie mark.

I'm not really sure what I would make a third act about. I would be open to suggestions, but for me this story feels complete.

7313609

Act three should be her putting her affairs in order. Whether or not the other ponies notice... whether or not they TRY to stop the curse...

Well, that's up to you.

The day she really does go poof after telling them all the secret on the same day she woke up as a pretty white sexy horse.

my solution, suicide :scootangel::moustache:

If you really think about it, all finite existence is relative, everything you know is only based off of arbitrary points that only exist relative to each other. Reality is based off of your perspective, your friends your house, your car, your family, your dog etc. all only apear to exist because you think that they exist.

This can be applied to rarity, her entire understanding of reality is based off of her infinitely limited reference points. she could be in a simulator, real life, insain, or something beyond human comprehension, and there will be no difference.
