Twilight has come into conflict with Celestia. That does not necessarily mean she is hostile, or considers herself her enemy. One summer night, she takes matters into her own hooves due to a conflict that could drive both of them apart. To what lengths will Twilight go in order to make sure that she prevails? Is Twilight in the right, or is Celestia?
More will be revealed as the story progresses.

If I were to hazard a wild guess: Maybe Twilight decided it's not right for ponies to control every aspect of nature? That weather should happen on its own instead of being scheduled? That wild animals should look after themselves instead of being herded around? Maybe her studies led her to become an ecologist. I could imagine a conflict with Celestia over something like that.
But Discord? erm.... She must have some sort of plan for restraining him. Surely plunging the world into utter chaos can't be her goal. From what we've seen, his reign was even more un-natural than anything ponies have done.

Free Discord? Is she crazy? I'm willing to bet she has a good reason for that, but still. It would have to be an end of the world situation for even her to want to risk it.

This gave me an idea (And looking at Queen Chrysallis, with her fly like body), of after the force field spell is sent out once more, and it throws every changeling out. Also, it is why Luna takes so long. Luna finds her, and finishes her off, for the rest of her life! If anybody steals this idea, I will sic Pinkamena on them.
Erm. Can't say that I'm any too thrilled with this premise.
And Cadence is not an alicorn. Those "wings" were merely a recurring animation error.

What do I think about it?
We know that when the story was originally written, when Lauren Faust was still on board, Cadence was written as a unicorn. In the TV show no character ever gave any explanation whatsoever for Cadence being an alicorn, or even mentioned the fact in passing. It had no relevance to the story, which could have taken place exactly the same way, line-for-line, without her wings.
I'm quite sure somebody in the Hasbro toy division gave the producers a call and said, "The retailers are clamoring for something pink! And we've got a ton of those pink alicorn toys already sitting in a warehouse in China. We need you to put a pink alicorn in the show!" And because Hasbro pays the bills, they slapped some wings onto Cadence.
I'm a fanfic writer. Hasbro doesn't pay my bills, and I don't have to accept things like that. My stories will continue to take place in a world where Derpy can be called "Derpy", Vinyl Scratch has beautiful ruby red eyes, and the only alicorns are Celestia and Luna. (And possibly Nyx. Hey, at least Nyx has a background story explaining where she came from, and doesn't just suddenly appear out of nowhere to be immediately Loved By All.)

It's something that's going to differ from person to person.
Some people will go with her being a Winged Unicorn/Pegacorn. Something along the lines of a rare genetic mutation while in the womb, mortal as any other pony.
Some people will go with her being an Alicorn, just like Celestia and Luna.
Stop bloody fighting about it. I've already had a big row about Ditzy 'Derpy' Doo (Derpy being her nickname) / Derpy Whooves, with people being rude as hell to an artist for DARING to use the fanon name Ditzy, over the other fanon name Derpy Whooves. (Yes, anything beyond simply Derpy is fanon).
Stop being rude to THIS artist (Literature or otherwise) by complaining about something that fits into canon just as well as the alternative.

Aw, you posted this on a sunday. If you'd waited one day, it would've posted on a monday, and the end of the last chapter wouldn't have lied! You never specified how many mondays next.
But yeah, I'm still around and waiting for more! For some reason "24 weeks" doesn't sound like a very long time, in my head... I know it is, of course, but it just doesn't feel like an appropriately large number for how long it's been since I read chapter 2. It's weird. That said, don't beat yourself up about not writing for a long while — I'm still super-interested in where you'll take this, but it's also still just a story, lol.

Im certain i forgot every major detail of this story that made me think it was great.
You know that awkward moment when you realize you faved a fic, but somehow never gave it a thumbs up? Fixed!
Anyway, good job so far! I'm very interested to see where this is headed--not many fics out there position twilight against her mentor.

Man, Luna's stance is almost disappointing. I mean, I understand why she's taking it — she basically has no choice in the matter. And I agree that her stance is necessary. But it's still disappointing that she can't help.
And please don't feel like you have to add anything from the season 3 premier, lol. If people draw lines from things in this story to things from S3, then let them; you don't have to directly connect the 'green magic' Twilight used in chapter one to S3 unless you feel it's necessary. When authors start doing that, it always feels forced, like they're trying to wedge a piece from a different puzzle into it, but of course it doesn't fit quite right.
