The sun has set, the moon has risen, and crowds fill the ancient streets of Marecelona to celebrate the night away. Among them walks a solitary mare in a long red coat. Few notice her, but those who do know exactly why she is there.

She is there to dance.

Lambent Dream did a fine job on helping you out. I was swooned by this story and now it swooped me off my feet, I hope to see more stories like this one.

I was happy to lend what small help I could to bring out this story. You did an excellent job, GMP, and I was happy to help you.

---

This was a good story that does what you intended. It brings to life a mare who is recognizable to us as Roseluck, despite never using her name. She also has that verve for life, a certain amount of joy that she's taken with her from her small town life. I like that. It's like an AU interpretation of my interpretation of Roseluck. I think you said that was your intent, and in that, you succeeded very well.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! :twilightblush:

This was a pleasure from beginning to end. The passion in this piece was almost tangible.

5428542 I'm glad I liked it too, maybe I could do the same. :twilightblush:

5428548

Great to hear! Thanks!

Roseluck in marecelona.... Rose Tyler and Barcelona.... *gasp* DOCTOR WHO REFERENCE?!?!? Seriously though, great story.

5428667 Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.

I want to read this, but everytime i get caught up humming the BeeGees.

5458515 If it helps, this is flamenco inspired, not disco. xD

5458591 bit she still has the night fever, right?

This story was amazing. It immediately had me invested and I don't think anyone has ever quite portrayed a stallion as sexy half as well as you have. Have a fave.

I couldn't have read this at a better time! I'm flying out to Barcelona tomorrow for a culture immersion trip and this is just what I needed to put me in the mood.
Keep up the great work!

5729834 Glad you liked it! Safe travels!! :)

Do you know where I can find more Flamenco + EDM music? Ever since I listened to the two songs that you put up, I've been craving for more, but it's kind of hard to find a combination of music like that. :ajsleepy:

Do you happen to have a playlist on YouTube or just a couple of more songs that you would recommend listening to?

5759325 I think I've got some others stashed in my YT lists somewhere. I'll see what I can find for you. :)

5759325

Okay. Did some digging through my like lists and found this playlist on another user's account.

I haven't listened to every entry yet, but many of them seem at least pretty well in the Flamenco/EDM ballpark, so this should be a good starting point. I'll see what else I can dig up though!

Wow, that was some powerful imagery! Lovely!

And now I'm listening to and loving that music...

5778699 I'm glad you liked it!

If you're looking for other, similar pieces of music, I recently found this playlist on YT. (not mine though)

5778740 Cool, thanks! I've been trying to broaden my musical horizons lately, so finding another genre of music that I didn't ever dream of existing? Pretty exciting stuff.

Wow! This story was just so passionate and seductive to read. It flowed so wonderfully and with a magic of it's own. Simply breathtaking and beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing with all of us. I think all of us have some of Roseluck inside....thanks for really showing her to us. I will always see her as you described her here; full of life and passion.

I'm sorry, but reading this story had me immediately pulling up this song:

.... from the stallion's point of view. You know.

Anyway, with just the right amount of imagination, I could picture the entire scenes of which you set out to create and use in the story. Thus, it tried and succeeded with showing off the heart of Roseluck while also giving the world around her some TLC. In the end, I enjoyed the passion expressed in the story despite a bit of distaste for using the old unicorn as a "ghost element for the sake of pointing the character in the right direction." It is a bit overused... and I think with Roseluck's experience with dancing, I assume she would have a least done some research prior towards visiting Marecelona (good ponification name by-the-way) and therefore would have known where she was going.

But besides that, I loved this story for its simplistic passion tone that combines MLP with some Spanish influence and dance-halls. 8.2 / 10

P.s: The ending had me looking this beautiful song as well:

.... Now that, I think about it. I have to feel a bit heartbroken for the stallion.

Thank you both for the feedback, and I'm glad you liked the story! I invite you to check out my other stories as well. I hope you'll find them to your liking too. :)

Absolutely brilliant GMP! I agree with your sentiment, I think this tale is PERFECT for Roseluck. I hope our dear stallion friend crosses paths with her again.

Here is what I imagined the dance to look like IRL:

Flamenco though?

Perhaps... perhaps...

It certainly is passionate, but (to my inexperienced eyes) it is also proud and aloof; all the Flamenco dances I have seen on Youtube show single dancers, or partners who dance apart. It is all so individual and solitary. IMHO if you really want full-contact passion, you need tango:

(The background music, Vi Luz y Subí, is one of my favouritest neo-tango pieces.

5759325

Do you know where I can find more Flamenco + EDM music?

5778699

And now I'm listening to and loving that music...

It is not EDM, but you might like Nuevo Tango type music; a delicious blend of traditional tango and a light seasoning of electronic garnish.

My favourite artist/band is Narcotango. Their album, Narcotango Vol. 1, is especially good. Proof that bandoneons can be sensual!

Some of my favourite highlights:

>1843071

(Just continuing the conversation here so it is more on topic)

I have to confess I am biased for tango; Significant Other purchased us a month of beginner's lessons for my birthday, and we did that in the evenings. You definitely get the close sensual contact there; the bloke is 4 inches away from a painful, embarrassing injury and the woman 2 inches from filing a lawsuit.

I have never done flamenco so I do not know all the ins and outs. All the videos though that I have seen on Youtube all show a common theme; 1 or 2 two dancers dancing aloof and in coordination, but never together. It was passionate definitely, but solitary. Maybe I did not see the proper videos?

I certainly agree with the whole "nuevo flamenco/tango" thing. I love the idea of taking the existing genre and building upon it with new instruments, sounds, and techniques that have been recently developed. Genre purism? Bah! Real music should grow, expand, evolve like a living thing (one of my favourite artists does neo-Classical crossover). And I think therein lies the problem I had with the music; there was not much flamenco history or lineage there. Flamenco Mediterraneo brought in the guitars halfway through, but it was a lone piquant pimento in an otherwise white bread loaf of EDM.
:applejackunsure:

All in all though, these are just minor quibbles. I enjoyed reading the story.

6050140 Oh, tango classes? Sounds exciting! I'd be interested to know how those turned out for you all. Me? I have two left feet, so I'd be on my face in a second, lol.

And I'll agree, the music tilts more to EDM than flamenco, but hey, it got my writing muscle working, so there's that. ;) Thanks again for sharing your thoughts. I truly appreciate it. :)

This looks amazing, and I actually have seen the cover art on deviantART! I was curious to read the story behind it.. Really creative idea

I was flipping through author folders on the Nexus and found this story. I don't usually go out of my way to read other people's fics simply because I've found that too much reading interrupts my own flow and style, but I'm glad that I took the time to read this.

The whole story was enchanting and beautiful, as surreal as Roseluck's night and just as intense. I went and looked up flamenco dances to get a better visualization of what she was doing, and you did a beautiful job of translating the motions of the dance into your writing. Now that I'm listening to the songs you linked in the author's notes I can see it even more clearly, and I have to commend you even further- the story does truly draw from the energy of the songs, and vice versa.

It was a classic Mediterranean one-night romance full of passion, life, and freedom, and it was wonderful. Well done, indeed.

This is a story which captures every essence of a true slice of life. The world's subtle details coulkd stand on their own merits even without FiM ever existing. The blending of Earth and Pony culture appears seamless and clearly either well-researched or directly experienced. The tone and setting are beautifully rich and vibrant, and the characterization of Rose shines warmly in her muted tones and bright highlights.

She did not understand the words, but she didn't need to; the sadness, the sense of love, longing, and loss in his voice spoke volumes by itself.

This sentence also serves as metaphor for what a story like this, a character study done not merely properly, but exquisitely, should do. The reader doesn't need to be told every detail overtly, enough is said between the lines through the subtlety of the given words that the perceptive can find all manner of almost subliminal detail that is most sublime.

I declare this one of the great short story works on FiM, alongside and equal to my personal favorites "Pirates For a Day" and "The Glassblower's Tale".

It deserves the thousands of likes that certain Twilight Saga-esque vampony tales, sloppy melodramatic adolescent-level romance, and brutal HiEs receive.

FOR SHAME, THOSE WHO HAVE NOT READ THIS MASTERPIECE!! From hell's heart, I stab at thee! For hate's sake, I spit... my last... breath... at thee... *finished activating the Genesis Device, watching the Fanship Twidashlunlestiamacvinoctshy slowly moving away, knowing it canno escape the asplosion cuz it has no Spock to fix the main reactor* :pinkiecrazy:

So... good job! :twilightsheepish:

Ah, I should mention you made me wonder about that stallion with his black and green color scheme an those electric blue eyes.... rather like certain insectile creatures which would find such a setting quite conducive for their needs. :raritywink:

Thank you both very much, and I'm glad you enjoyed the story! It's especially thrilling to see that you picked up the music through the prose, as that was one of my main goals in writing this. :)

Thanks so much!

6247256 Gosh, where do I start, lol. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and reactions, and I'm elated that you were swept away a bit by the story. :)

I have to be honest though: I'm extremely flattered that you'd think of this story in the same sentence as 'The Glassblower'. Truly! But, I don't think I'm quite up to the level that Cold in Gardez is at as a writer. I've got a ways to go, trust me. But the sentiment is very much appreciated. :)

Thanks again!

PS: Nah, no changeling agents here. I just like the combo of greens and blues.
PPS: See, we told you not to follow us into the Mutara Nebula, but you didn't listen. ;)

6252833 At least I died blowing up all those bad fanfics!

*little does Alondro realize that the Genesis Effect revived them all afterward and mutated them into more horrifying forms! Iron Will was crossed with Shining Armor! The hydra ended up with Cadance! The Chimera conjoined sisters had a 4-some with Big Mac! IT WAS MASS HYSTERIA!!! :fluttershbad::raritydespair: *

I reviewed this story!

My review can be found here.

Beautiful story and masterful narrative, as always. You capture the electricity and emotion of the dance, letting us experience the transcendence of the moment ourselves. I'm undone.

6659991 Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)

6708404 Thank you! I'm glad you liked it so much. :)

A lovely story, though you should know your original link to "La Noche" is dead, the video's gone. I think this is the same track, though?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qKIaNrCtNbg

6711204 Doh! My apologies for not noticing that! :facehoof: *grumbles at youtube* :trixieshiftleft:

Thanks for letting me know, and yes, that new link is spot on! I've swapped it out.

Thanks again!

Another magnificent piece of description and a tale of intense, if fleeting, joy!

7007014 Thanks! I'm glad you liked the story! :twilightblush:

I feel like this should be an audio play or comic.
