When Vinyl accidentally insults Octavia, Octavia takes it in turn to issue a challenge to a battle of the bands, her versus Vinyl. When it comes time for the battle, Vinyl gets more than she thought she would.

Wow, this thing is awesome. Really liked the dynamic between Vinyl and Octavia! But I haven't watched Rainbow Rocks yet, so I can only hope this fic didn't spoil me to some part of it.

"Nope!" she cheerfully replied, "I tried playing the saw once but I hit too many sharps."

Oh gosh. That joke hurt.

I do have a few notes to say though, if you wouldn't mind me voicing them.

I found myself presented with a pony I didn't recognize, with a pale blue coat and a two toned mane. One tone in a slightly darker blue, the other tone even darker. There seemed to be a faint green vapor surrounding her, which thinned with every second. "Who I am... is of no importance," she said in a serious tone, which was clearly forced.

I . . . I don't want to be offensive, but is this your OC? Introducing foreign ponies like this with no fanfare just seems a little . . . odd. I won't say you need a boatload of exposition, but you need more than this if you want your characters to seem more like cameo self-inserts. There's nothing wrong with cameos, per se, but they always seem to reference something important to the author that a reader (like me) just doesn't get. Why does she speak crytically? Why does she have a green miasma about her? Why does she eat emotions?

"Why, that's it!" I exclaimed, again, "That must of been what had fueled us on so! Why, it makes so much sense now! I was right!" I got so worked up over figuring out what had happened, that I failed to notice the strange pony running away. I wasn't worried by that, however, figuring she couldn't be that much trouble.

I'm actually more worried about Vinyl's strange change in diction. Vinyl doesn't really speak like this, well, ever. Why, there's only one pony I know of that prefers to speak in such a dignified manner, darling!

All in all, I still quite enjoyed this story. The concept's interesting, you grammered good, and it's just nice to read. Now off to watch Rainbow Rocks before I inadvertently spoilerize myself.

That's my one problem with writing background characters. At least with the canon characters I have something to work with. One could theoretically argue that the excitement of figuring it out caused her to talk like that... but I'm not going to!

5226777 So I AM getting spoilerized already! Sorry about that; I feel like an idiot now.

I just happen to be in that situation where I can't watch Rainbow Rocks for a few months yet. The same thing happened last year with EqG. Spoilers are just really hard to avoid when it seems like everyone else has already watched it!

It's nothing to worry about! And it's not really a spoiler... more or less a reference to a main character who appears... pretty much within the first few minutes of the movie! You'll see. Although that situation MUST be tough. Here, have a Derpy/Ditzy:

That does not sound even a little bit like Sonata Dusk. I mean, it's only one sentence, but it doesn't fit any of the Sirens (but her especially).
