Final Fantasy IX belongs to Sony and Square Enix, you should totally buy the game.
I haven't decided if this crossover will be closer to mlp in tone or ff9 in tone (Their tones are in sync for the first few chapters). Any suggestions? Did you come here hoping to see a final fantasy crossover with out the teen rating? Or would you rather see Spike and Applejack tackling the dark events that occur in ff9? Any comments or suggestions are welcome.
Hehe, I got a chuckle out of Applejack filling Steiner's role, at least you didn't give her his bumbling personality. And Spike filling Vivi's role makes sense when considered alongside Applejack.
With Final Fantasy IX being my favourite game of all time, I'm gonna be enjoying this re-telling.

Have to say great to see a final fantasy crossover staring Spike, big fan of Spike;
I just hope you don’t give up on it like some authors gave up on their works.
As for suggestions I would go more with a final fantasy tone.
I would suggest you explain to Spike, Applejack and the readers how item ability and magic gaining system works.
And I would love it if you gave Spike some new unique ability’s or a second magic casting ability or something I know you have already given one to Applejack with the Applebuck but please don’t forget about Spike.

Can't wait to see what will be Applejack's equipment.
And I am especially looking forward to see Spikes new skill's with said GEM.
I know blank suggested barding but I can't help but thing chocobo tack is more plentiful.
I also believe a small village like Dali would have no need for barding.
And I can't help but wonder will the rest of the party be shocked to how casual Applejack will be at wearing chocobo tack.
I also can't help but think of the awkward social situations from walking around a human city wearing a rein and saddle.

This is a little embarrassing...but FF9 is the only one in the series I've even completed. Do you plan on having any other ponies end up in your story? I get this weird feeling that Pinkie Pie would substitute for Quina pretty well.

5171570 Right now, I am indeed intending to have Pinkie fill Quina's blue shoes.
But besides her, I didnt intend to have any of the other mane six replace the other characters. Freya, Eiko, and Amarant have tons more to their characters than Quina does. I think Quina wasn't even aware that what s/he was doing was helping Gaia, s/he just wanted to taste new food/monsters.
Also, Pinkie as blue mage? Well Duh~

I agree with you completely about Quina, but disagree about Amarant. I never really cared for him to be honest. But I can't really seeing any of the rest of the mane 6 taking his place. Rainbow Dash might work, but that's a big stretch. A question to ask now is: when will Pinkie show up? Quina can be recruited very early on in the story. Or are you going to wait a bit before springing her on us?
Yay Freya! I love her in the game. And it looks like Pinkie will be showing up soon too. I can't wait for the next chapter.

Digging for some criticism, don't mind me! If you're willing, mind telling me what I could do to make the story better? I'd like to make it better!
Have you considered adding final fantasy 9's Active Time Events. I love your story but when they get split up I wonder what is happening to the others. Like whats happening to spike right now or what was happening to the rest of the party when spike was in the Evil Forest or the Dali factory.
I would also suggest you add some more details to the story like in chapter 7 you neglected to tell how Black Waltz 3 stole the airship from Zorn and Thorn. Don't assume everyone who reads this has played or beaten the game.
And have you considered giving Applejack the Sword Magic,
Spike the Focus,
And Pinkie Pie the Eat Skills.
Or are you replacing them with your new skills so their not to overpowered.

5183940 Thanks for the suggestion! I'll look over the previous chapters soon and consider ATE's at certain points, such as AJ getting the barding, or like you pointed out, Black waltz robbing the airship from Zorn and Thorn.
Applejack is getting Apple Arts, skills tied to her character and family.
Spike is getting Freindship's Magic, magic tied to being a dragon and his friends.
Pinkie is getting...things...?
I'm intending for her to be something close to the mimic class in the older final fantasies.
I think the idea of Pinkie eating monsters is ridiculous and decided to have her learn blue magic the same way it was done in FF7, by getting hit with it.
When I saw this, I broke out laughing.
Same, sometime we can think the right choice.

Gonna add some ATEs to a few chapters, edit certain parts to make more sense, and add moogle notes at the end of each chapter.

MY bad, I said moogle notes and totally missed that that could mean mognet.
I will tackle the headache that is mognet later, when the letter Spike sent comes back up.
What I meant for moogle notes was basically what you get when you press select in the menu. You get info on items and abilities. Have stuff like how each characters trances work, or what part of the mist continent Alexandria rules, info stuff. Tutorial stuff like status affects and yada yada.

While I have your attention may I suggest you add more gems, Like some not found in the game like a carbonado, Or a blood stone think of what abilities thous would give Spike.

Squee! I didn't say this before, but I'm liking how the mist is affecting Pinkie. I hope she comes out alright in the end mind you, but knowing what's coming up soon, I'm actually worried. They've all never really seen a huge loss of life, and Pinkie is probably the most fragile of the mane 6; even Fluttershy would be able to handle 'the feels' better.

I love Beatrix's theme, so you won't have any letters coming to your door from me. In response to your earlier question: I don't have any problems with the way you're portraying the characters so far. The only thing I will remind you of however, is the moggle stuck in the bell that you need to use a kupo nut to get to come out. It will be funny to see Pinkie's reaction to the moggles.

That mini game is my favorite too! I use to play with a friend on his system. Got so good we never bothered to go to the item shops after halfway threw the first disk. lol
And I look forward to seeing Spike flying on Choco. And don't forget the chocograph pieces and the gear you get!
