Ron Jeremy Pony

What to say about me... I'm a novelist, I enjoy writing Fanfiction (seriously I like it. Although I mainly do Justice League or Highschool of the Dead), and thanks to Dr. Whooves I found FIM.

Wow. A quick site search of "Diamond in the Rough" turned up 5 stories of that name, 2 "A Diamond in the Rough" stories, and "A Lost Diamond in the Rough".

On top of that, they were nearly all Diamond Tiara fics, and one was published only two months ago.

I suggest you change the name.

Jesus, that's rough. And of course, GLaDOS is a royal bitch. I would hate to be Fred when morning comes and he finds Diamond in the buff... :raritywink:

Well, she's not yet met a horrible fate yet, and the guy who saved her seems nice, so all in all it could be a lot worse for bad old DT. Maybe she'll become a better pony as a result of her new situation? PLEASE tell me that Portal didn't happen in this universe.

5013904

No, Portal didn't actually happen. GLaDOS was modeled after the GLaDOS from portal. Several of he Digital Assistants are modeled after famous characters. I See Pink - Igor from Frankenstein (The movie). An Apple in a Bushel of Peaches - Hal 9000 from 2001 a Space Odyssey. Staring into the Sun - Alfie (one of the flying monkeys from Wizard of Oz), and The Lady and the Soldier (Max Headroom).

5013932
That's what I thought, just checking. How'd DT end up in the Stacks anyway?

5013947

Well... The long version is giving out a few spoilers, but we'll just say that the power behind Vogon wanted her there.

I didn't expect to see a story in this universe where a girl is summoned but doesn't find her "friend/buyer". I like the twist.

Before I read this I have a question. How is Diamond Tiara there without a customer? I thought these life-forms weren't created until order? I also thought these ponies were life-bonded to the first person that touches them?

5014033

As you've read the stories I'm sure that you've noticed that each of the ponies had doing something specific. Pinkie has been helping Andy get past the trauma that he's suffered. Mac's help Jessica trust in men again. Applejack is helping Anthony stay honest, Apple bloom... Well, that's a spoiler, so no... and I can't on Rarity's yet either.

But they've each been exactly where they needed to be. In fact no one's been able to just visit the Vogon website. There's a reason for that.

5014050 I'm sorry to say that I haven't read the stories with the Apples. Yet, again, each pony was ordered. I think AJ and Apple Bloom were ordered by the woman with Big Mac so he can have his whole family (that's what I got when I read the first chapter of AJ;s). So I ask how is Diamond Tiara wondering the streets without any type of bond?

5014087

That's a decent question, and an intelligent one. Yes, Applejack and Apple Bloom were ordered by Jessica, but only after she begged to whatever was listening to find them. She wanted to find them for big Mac because he needed his family, but Applejack was needed by Anthony, and Apple Bloom is needed by Harold.

Yeah, Diamond Tiara is without someone who ordered her, but not someone to bond with. I don't want to give too much away, but believe me when I See Pink ends (Which it's down to about three chapters). It's going to make complete sense. (Because I'm revealing who's behind Vogon in the last chapter of I See Pink.)

I noticed several similaritys with this fic and Ready Player One

Is this intentional?

5016220

The Earth that the Vogonverse is based on is inspired by Ready Player One. I loved the descriptions of how society had evolved to the point it had, and then of the conditions around the world. Naturally some of it has been tweaked. Like for one in Ready Player One there's Net Neutrality, but that doesn't exist in the Vogonverse. The Corporations have pretty much seized control over anything and everything they could. While the Net itself is more or less free, there is advertising on almost every surface, there are pay ports for various sites, and even the free sites track a person's movements and send it back to the Corporations so that they know how to advertise to this person, and what to shine in front of their eyes.

Then there is the debt that can be racked up. Any debt owed is either paid off or a person basically becomes a slave to the owner of the debt.

So, yeah.. the influence was deliberate :pinkiehappy:

5016269 When did you first hear about RPO?

5016294

I read it when I was still working on my English - emphases on Creative Writing - Degree in college. I had to read it in our Science Fiction Literature class, and that was... Spring of 2012. The book had just been out for a few months, but our Professor loved it, and he brought it in for us. Naturally when I read it I fell in love with the book. I usually go back and re-read it every three or four months.

It's just an amazing story.

5016308 It was introduced to me by my brother when he had to read it for collage as well, but I don't remember what class he got it from. I think it was some time last year that he came home with it.

5016317

I know that Science Fiction class became my favorite class. We read Ready Player One, Boneshaker, Perdido Street Station (which has also slightly inspired this story), The Forever War, and The Windup Girl.

They were some fantastic books, and I recommend all of them.

5016334

If you've got access to Amazon Prime I might be able to loan you Boneshaker and the Forever War. I had them on Kindle because it was cheaper than getting the physical copies.

5016340 I'll just use the local library to get them, I don't have any form of tech beyond a busted up GBA.

5016342

Sounds like a plan :pinkiehappy:

Oh, for Story related news, expect the second chapter to be out either tonight or tomorrow :pinkiehappy:

5016362 Great.

Thing though, revealing the reasons behind the going-ons of the Vogon Tech is something that I will not read until i have read everything else in the Vogon-verse

5016370

I don't blame you, and I understand completely. There's most likely going to be a few people who aren't going to want to read about the power behind Vogon until they've read everything else. I can't say that I blame them, and that's why when I do the wedding chapter I'm going to make an author's note about the next chapter. The last last thing I want to do is ruin the ride for anyone who wants to explore around the Vogonverse for a little bit.

I have to ask. Is this set in the same city as 'I See Pink'? If so, I'll PM my next question.

5016746

I've been going over if I wanted this to happen in OKC or not. There are several benefits to it happening there. One, it's been established that the Stacks Pinkie and Andy rode by in the Taxi weren't the only Stacks in the city, so this could be almost anywhere. Two, if I decide to have it happen in OKC (Which has been the main hiccup for this story is nailing down a specific place where I want it to happen) then it makes what I want to have happen later even easier. So... You know what... This is officially happening in the same city (OKC) as I See Pink. It just makes sense.

I think DT is still a bit shell-shocked from being dumped in the Stacks out of nowhere.

Did somebody buy diamond tiara just for the express purpose of dropping her off in the stacks? That would be evil. She's a terrible pony but she does not deserve that.

“Okay, we’ve got to move, and move fast. The workers are going to be getting home in around twenty minutes, and if we’re out there with food they will take it from us,” he said.

“I’d like to see them try,” she said holding a bag close to her.

:facehoof:Famous...Last...Words.:facehoof:
I have a feeling Diamond Tiara is about to have a rude awakening. BTW, how old is Diamond Tiara?

5023371

Well, in the Vogonverse the series went Eight seasons. At the end of Season four we're lead to believe that they're about twelve (With Babs Seed being a year to two years older possibly) so it wouldn't be hard to believe that Diamond is sixteen to seventeen. (In this she's seventeen)

Well, at the very least Fredrick's suffering is inspiring DT to become a better pony. First comment!

I hope that guy doesn't cause trouble in the future...

She collected it, looked at the sacks for sale, selected one, and pressed her thumb into its indent. A sack spat out of the mouth of the box, and she pulled it on out. She placed the sports drink into it, and then she walked out of the store and into the one next to it. I did this for six stores before I finally came to the Apothecary.

You switch to first person here at the end.

I'm going to find you little girl, and after I'm done breaking you I'm going to turn out you on the street.

This bit makes no sense.

5110858

I hope that I cleared up some of the confusion with what I meant in that one area.

LF

She let out a screak of surprise when it went completely cold.

Did you mean "shriek?"

“Wet a washcloth, drap it over his forehead. Search the medical kit and see if there is some aspirin. If so give that to him,” GLaDOS said.

How do you drap something? Did you mean "drape?" Otherwise, this chapter was good. The pacing was a little quicker than I would like, but it works.

5111389

It was a fast paced chapter, but the next one is a little slower. Actually the next one deals with something horrific happening in the Stacks. Diamond gets to see something about the darker parts of human nature when all hope has been lost.

It appears that Diamond and Frederick are around the same area of Pinkie and Andy. I hope they meet soon. I have a feeling, sooner or later, Diamond's luck is going to run out and those bastards are going to get their hands on her.:fluttercry:

Uh oh, this "Commodore" guy is nasty, he needs to BURN! I hope the girl and the dragoness both manage to get out alive! Poor things.

Hell, it set interrogations back hours, or it did before I learned a little trick, he said taking the now redden blade to the mare’s flank and drawing a line in it.

Missing quotation.

'reddened'

I'm trying to remember what Commodore that was in RPO.

I hope things don't get any darker. I'm scared of the fate that awaits that dragoness. I have a feeling the girl's fate is sealed though.:fluttercry: If this Commodore is going to be as infamous as the author's note says, there is going to be a lot more suffering in the Vogonverse.

Incoming heat huh?

Interesting is an understatement.

So few up votes.
Excellent chapter as always.
