It seems that people more and more associate 'political correctness' with the extreme examples that are, unfortunately, seen more and more in society. It has become synonomous with 'your not allowed to say anything negative to another person.' I don't agree with such extremes. What I do believe is that, at its genuine core, political correctness is (or at least was) about love, tolerance, and respect of the other; be it a person, institution, religion, or group. I think political correctness should be more about being able to express an opposing position, but in a way that respects the dignity and rights of the other. Unfortunately, one extreme states that you are not allowed to question or oppose elements of another person's beliefs, culture, or society; while the other extreme states you can do it in what ever way you want to, using what ever language you want.

So, I do take issue with Discord's attempted use of the word retard, because it was meant to be used in a way that degrades the dignity of Derpy; but, for the most part, I do not take issue with people using the name Derpy because, for the most part, fans use the name with love and affection; without any malice or any intent to demean.

I hope my comment does not offend, for its not meant to be directed at you or what you wrote; its just that I am tired by the societal impression that there are only two extreme sides to 'political correctness.' That one thing I really like about the brony community, it seems that no matter what beliefs, culture, or society a person comes from, they are welcomed with love, respect and tolerance within the herd.
