Petty Officer Second Class Slater is stationed aboard the EUPN ship Enduring Spirit, traveling through the vast reaches of the Milky Way Galaxy to discover new wormhole routes for the colonies of Earth. But when what was supposed to be a "simple" wormhole jump goes horribly wrong, PO2 Slater's life almost ends... and changes forever.

Well, that was a quick rescue....on to equinology.:facehoof:

Interesting concept, I'll keep an eye on this. Sadly, I do not know of any "Equish" languages on the interwebz, but it's still fun to read Zulu.

Well, I understand that part of the story was short, but It wasn't an unreasonably fast rescue. The pod crashed near Manehattan, and it was several hours before Titus was rescued, and he used a flare.
As for why that part was so short: That part really isn't even about Equestria, and I wanted to reach a part of the story involving ponies fairly quickly.

4932674
Thanks. I actually thought people might be irritated reading all those foreign words, but I wanted an authentic feeling of being unable to communicate with the ponies.

"

"Well... we don't know, your highness," replied Bill Neigh

Oh god thats so awesome!

4933900
Bill Neigh is the fan-given name for the professor in Crystal Empire Part 1 who confirms Twilight's math.

Discussion of religion in what capacity?

4935768

if you don't like discussion on religion or HiE, this story probably isn't for you.

What kind of discussion of religion?

4935520
Mostly a "meeting of religions" type of thing. Celestia and Titus talking, Titus explaining human belief systems and his personal beliefs, Celestia discussing the ponies general lack of religion and her status as "god".
Have you ever read Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe? I envisioned the discussion as similar to Mr. Brown's discussion with Akunna.
It will take up one chapter, which will probably be skippable.

4935792

So, not religion as reality, but as culture?

4935794
Well, to Titus (probably kind of obvious he's a christian) it would be reality. To Celestia, it will appear more of a cultural thing. But religion won't be touted as fact.

4935806

Um. Hm. As long as it isn't an author tract.

4935813
No. For the record, I am a christian, but I really don't think people want to read about ponies being evagelized to just because that's what the author believes.

"Inselo Ezithambile" seems to translate to "soft drink," or "cleft soft."

4935863
Yes indeed. "Cleft soft" is the translation. However, the word for cleft also translates "Hoof", so the nurse's name is Soft Hoof. Terrible name, but I wasn't trying to make it spectacular.
Just try translating Soft Hoof into Zulu.

omg......SO EPIC WHY U NO HAZ COMMENTS? I WILL B FOLLOW THIS (idc about spelling errors)

Interesting choice for the Equestrian language.

Have Fleur Di Lis talk with him. She speaks Prench/French. Since she is a Prench pony y'know.

4936614
Well... I glad you think that.
However, I'd like to point out that Bill Nye isn't in this story.

4937581
Yeah, but I'm still really bummed that there isn't a fan-made Equish.

4937864
Fleur dis Lee doesn't speak French in this story (otherwise, I could have just made all the ponies speak English). However, perhaps she could make a brief appearance where Titus speaks French and she asks if he would teach her it sometime. I'll see.

4938571 For future reference, it's "Fleur-de-Lys"

4939106
No, he just has a similar name. I could technically make Bill Neigh the polar opposite of Bill Nye, and it wouldn't be wrong. They are similar, but not the same.

4939120 Oop! :facehoof:

Still, the original French spelling is "Lys"

very good story so far. now to hope u dont fall into the old trap of "human comes to equestria, then mucks about." the overall theme is (somewhat) unique, and the style of writing immersive, except for the fact that the story looks like a wall of text.:applejackconfused: one thing that could help keep the story from looking so much like that would be to put spaces between paragraphs, like so:

Titus Andronicus Slater loved space. It was a harsh place, full of radiation, lacking in resources, and incredibly dark. Most humans preferred planets or even asteroids, those minuscule islands in the vast sea of the universe. But not Titus. He signed up for the Earth United Planets Navy at the age of seventeen, lured by promises of space travel and galactic exploration. And the promises had held true. In the six years so far of EUPN Enduring Spirit's ten year voyage, Petty Officer Second Class Slater had seen countless millions of miles of space, viewed planets and star systems, and even jumped through two wormholes. For that was the real purpose of Enduring Spirit's voyage: to map and explore unexplored wormholes in the Milky Way Galaxy. Since the capability to travel through wormholes had been discovered, humanity had spread much farther across the universe than previously possible, and wormholes were the key to most interstellar trade.

Though the EUPN was a military organization, none of the various interstellar systems had fought a war for 132 years. This was good news for Titus, because, though not a pacifist, he did not support war. Though like every other EUPN recruit he was trained in battle procedures, almost no one ever expected to use them. As it was, Enduring Spirit was carrying the minimum required armament for a military vessel its size: 2 antimatter torpedoes and two light weight particle cannons. Not even enough weapons to destroy a ship of equal size and equipment.

Though most crew members found the long stretches of dark and silence unbearably boring, Titus had very small expectations of entertainment. He found a simple joy in repairing the training simulators, rewiring the lights in Meeting Room 5, and fixing that one holopanel on Recreation Deck 2 that always short circuited. He even found wonder in gazing out the rear Observation Deck at the vast expanse of cosmic dust that made up space.

"Petty Officer Slater!" called Senior Chief Petty Officer Mariette Bonfils "One of the menu screens in the Mess is glitched. I want you to go fix it."

"Yes Ma'am."

this makes it much easier to read. anyway, as i said, good job. Onwards!

pity these chapters are so short. im going to finish several lightyears before im ready to stop reading. :raritydespair:

and i've caught up. already. i want MOAR!!!:flutterrage:

in other news, this story is really quite good. i will be following it. the only thing i can find that could use improvement is, as i mentioned before, the paragraphs need spacing. other than that, continue as before.

4980268
Hmmm... Are you reading on a phone and/or tablet?
On my laptop it looks fine, but it does indeed look like a wall on my phone. I will space the paragraphs just for you.

4980296
Yeah, sorry about the short chapters. I usually write nore than that. I'm working on the next one right now, but I have college, so work is slow. I'd like to tell you when to expect the next one, but I couldn't give you an answer. Just know it's about 1/3 done right now.

In the mean time, would you be interested in reading my other two stories?

4985502 It's a fanfic. It can be read on this very website. Say... If you ever read it, can you please tell me what you think about it? Please?

I like where this is going! :pinkiehappy:

5040174
Thanks. I hope you enjoy it.

I'll give this a shot, I'd like to point out that at the very least ponies have no problem with Fish being eaten(see fluttershy feeding it to several of her animal friends), also eggs(which are high in cholestorol but also very high in protein). Neither of these are plants yet they are efficient ways of getting much of the protein requirement that humans have(otherwise he would have to eat mostly nuts and legumes to get his nutrient requirements).

5040344
Is eating eggs canon?
I don't really think horses would eat eggs, but science must yield to canon, I guess.

And just because the ponies are okay with feeding carnivores fish doesn't mean they would have some ready to be eaten. If they don't eat the fish themselves, I don't think they'd have a lot of fisherponies, and therefore they wouldn't have a lot of fish.

5040375 them eating eggs is in fact canon, they eat cakes, which have as a prerequisite ingredient eggs, as well as cupcakes, brownies, and most other pastries Pinkie Pie also mentions Quiche in one episode which is another egg dish. also Rarity made sunny side up eggs for her and sweetie belle. and while they might not have them readily availabe, saying that he would be "required" to eat a fully vegetative diet would be ridiculous. Pinkie pie mentioned hot dogs in Fall Weather Friends, here's a link to the wiki page with food shown and mentioned in the show.

5040462
You can make all of those dishes except quiche (and the actual eggs Rarity makes) without eggs. It won't be the same, but you can still do it. I've seen vegan versions of all those foods.

A Hotdog doesn't have to be meat either. Ever heard of a soydog?

"Oh, I'm sure they'll be minor. And if not, I can probably use more magic to fix the brain damage. You'll be fine." Twilight said nonchalantly.
Titus fainted.

That bitch! :rainbowlaugh::trollestia:

5040525
I had a temporary moment of insanity when I wrote that. But I assume you liked the chapter?

5040504 it also has a list of the ingredients for Pinkie's Muffins(which Applejack messed up), eggs, sugar, flour, Wheat Germ, baking soda, and chocolate chips. which implies that all of her baked goods are the regular versions rather than vegan versions(not to mention the fact that they use cows milk, or at the very least export it to other places as is evidenced by Twilight's episode with the Ursa Minor) and tofu dogs and soy are most commonly referred to as such with hot dogs referring exclusively to the varieties made from actual meat.

5040550
I remember Pinkie listing Chocolate chips, flour, and Wheat germ (which AJ mistakes as potato chips, soda, and "wheat worms"), but not eggs.
And while milk isn't vegan, it is something that all mammals drink, so ponies drinking cow milk is perfectly acceptable.

As for "hotdogs" versus soydogs, you have to remember that we live in an omnivore dominated society, where hotdogs are traditionally made with meat. But ponies live in an herbivore dominated society, where perhaps hotdogs are traditionally made with tofu. There is no reason to assume their hotdogs are meat just because ours are.

5040546
Did you check out the "Easter Eggs"?
