When I first saw this,I thought, oh god, not another Halo crossover. Then I read the description. PRAISE THE LORD, NOT ANOTHER ODST OR REACH SELF-INSERT. I applaud you for having the balls to write a crossover with the Chief himself, as that is a rarity (geddit? ) in this fandom. To make it better, this is the first one I've seen with decent spelling and a grammar structure that doesn't make me want to shoot myself.

Now, that doesn't mean it's perfect. While the narrative is solid and the events of the story are enjoyable, the Chief is somewhat OOC. John-117 does not panic, nor does his jaw drop. Maybe these obvious emotions would be more apparent after being on Equestria for a while, but you have to remember that John is pretty much fresh from a warzone, as cryosleep seems instantaneous to the one who has been put under. He'd probably still be in "nothing-can-faze-me fuck-with-me-and-die" mode.

Still, that doesn't detract from the story as a whole. It's just a bit jarring to be expecting the Big Green Machine to be his normal, ass-kicking self and then seeing him panicking and having his jaw drop. All in all, great story so far, 4.5/5.

One small criticism, the opening scene? The whole Chief-as-a-Kid part? I preferred the way that was in the book. Yours is almost identical in its content, but the dialogue from the Bungie version just felt more... right, somehow. I especially liked their whole "'Is he lucky, or is he really that fast?' 'I don't think it matters'" thing (Something like that, it's been a while since I read it).

Otherwise? Some serious promise here. I'd love to see how Twi reacts to Cortana.

Seriously, If this DON'T include the damn covenant or any other human military units, I might read it. If it becomes the same as every other halo fic's, meaning that the covenant come and fuck shit up. Nope. Not doing it.

Good job. But one thing irked me just a bit. When you refer to the weapon you always say "ma5b" which isnt really necesary, "the weapon" or something like that would help to give the story a slightly smoother feel as "ma5b" kind of draws more focus than it needs to.

Aside from that you've done well

That was a fast update.

Okay, good stuff.  The story actually reads like it wasn't written by an eight-year old, and the ponies' dialogue makes sense.  I do find it odd that the Chief doesn't talk, even though they can obviously understand each other.  On the other hand, it seems to work fine for now.  Also, please do not make the Chief a complete brony.  Too many crossovers just make the crossover characters utterly blown away by the ponies, and spend most of the story kissing pony flank.  I applaud you for not taking this approach.

How come I've only found ONE story where the humans and ponies didn't speak the same language? I think it's more realistic and entertaining, not to mention the other aliens from the Halo series didn't speak English as their native language.

Liking what's happened so far. Gone the fairly typical Halo/Pony fic route:

1. Crash near Ponyville

2. Find some ponies. Tenuous peace.

3. Visit Sweet Apple Acres. Everything goes wrong.

But then I re-read the description.

I think this is the first time I've heard of where someone insinuates the Chief has PTSD. Hell, I hadn't even considered it until now, but it makes a lot of sense. The shit he's been through's insane. It's easy to mistake him for some kind of emotionless killing machine, but under that helmet he's still (mostly) human.

Now this fic sounds REALLY interesting

Please. Do not make him fly away when Big Mac kicks him. I feel like I am only complaining right now, but its a solid story. Might want to lengthen it out a bit though. I'm enjoying it so far.

I don't mind halo crossovers so long as they are well written. Note: on the first chapter, Cortana should be saying "We are being pulled into the gravitational well of the planet. That is the proper phrase.

That dosn't seem like the Spartan 117 I know

well he doesnt really need to protect it anymore considering the threat of the covenant is probably gone now, the elites are on friendly terms with humans and it looks like the rest of the covenent have probably given up now they probably know the truth about the prophets lying to them all, the flood has been destroyed (so far as we know. who knows, maybe there iwll be some on instillation 04 in halo 4) and since the inhabitants didnt look too advanced then they wouldnt be able to do shit. does that answer keep you happy?

Good god that made my day. In so many crossover fics the crossed-over human just assumes what they're looking at is a pony, when the first conclusion any real person would make (at best) is that they're small horses. Yes, small horse=pony, but horses are a more common and recognizable animal in our world, and anyone who's not a brony would probably not even think of ponies until it was explained to them.

Anyway, great fic. I was a little annoyed with the Chief's silence, but that's really in character (more than the official Halo novels make him, I think) so I'm not complaining.I'm  not a huge fan of Halo lore (though I love the games), but if your story continues to focus on character development, and develops the only characters that I find interesting (Cortana and the Chief), then I may just read this to the end!

i think that will come to his mind soon (so long as the author plays it that way). also remember, he just had an unassisted entry onto a planet so he might be a small bit shook up from the impact (even if most of it was absorbed by the gel layer) and also from whatever the suit injected into him to cushion the fall. but i do know that if this was the real master cheif then right after hes had a few words with the locals then he would be immediately going to get cortana.

Well on one hand, this is the master chief we're talking about.

On the other hand, this is Big Macintosh, a larger then normal earth pony, of which four normal sized ones can pull a locomotive plus a small train of cars.

A new Halo crossover? Sweet! It's always good to get more of these! Anyway, here's my first impressions:

- Great way of referencing Halo: The Fall of Reach. Great book! Read it a few times.

- The beginning kind of reminds me of another Halo/MLP crossover with our favorite Spartan going to the Everfree Forest with the Main Cast (or just Twi and Spike with the over crossover and kicking a Manitcores Flank!) spotting him.

Well in "Ponyville Confidential" he pretty angrily told off the CMC when the had hurt Applejack's feelings, and that was just over an article about her sleeping on the job.  At the very least this shows he is protective of his sister and would probably react badly if he thought she was in danger, and the Chief is not exactly friendly looking to those who don't know him.

Ahem. A few points on the Chief.

1) He does not shave seconds off response times. His are best measured in milliseconds, and are as close to instantaneous as any living thing can be without nigh-total cyborgification. Yes, they specifically mentioned augmenting response times as part of the SPARTAN II upgrade program.

2) The Chief would not back away when charged by an alien talking mini-pegasus with the weirdest colorization he has ever seen on a living thing. If he thought they might be peaceful, and he's smart enough to consider it, he'd be nice and just snap her front legs and throw her at the nearest tree. All in about a second, if not faster. Remember, incredibly violent super soldier who's spent literally his entire life at war? Yeah, they didn't train Spartans to back down. Ever.

3) Let's say the Chief is attacked by an alien, like Big Macintosh was just foolish enough to do. In melee, when they're both unarmed. The Chief, thanks to a great deal of training, knows what to do here. It starts with Macintosh hitting Chief out of nowhere like he just did, and ends about two seconds later with Big Macintosh in four or five pieces across the surrounding area. Ponies are tough, but they're nothing compared to titanium-reinforced bones and heavily augmented muscles assisted by a one-ton suit of tougher-than-titanium power armor.

Now, if the books ever indicated the Chief would not act like this please tell me- but remember, right up until the Covenant Civil War, every goddamn alien ever was trying to exterminate humanity.
