This has a LOT of promise. I'm impressed by the summary alone - now let's hope that the writing style and actual story content measures up. Here's to hoping that you don't disappoint me ^^

Dunno, never read The Thessalonika Legacy. Frankly, I didn't even know a Battletech/MLP:FIM crossover existed until people started comparing my fic to TTL; I honestly thought I was the first.

As for the rant, yeah, a lot of BT fans got real ticked off at what they did with the Word of Blake, basically turning it from one of many B-list antagonists into a neigh-unstoppable force that managed to recruit and build an army to rival the largest ones fielded by star empires spanning hundreds of planets, that managed to compromise seemingly every single government with moles and agents, and then went on a rampage throwing WMDs everywhere because they didn't get their way. And somehow they managed to simultaneously create internal dissent and rebellion by causing mass civil war to erupt everywhere because they had everyone's secrets.

Now I know that the game developers were building towards the Jihad for a long time. There was plenty of warning and hints of the Wobbies being the next big bad guys after the Clans were dealt with, and Katherine Steiner-Davion had her account stamped "paid in full, b*tch." (Trust me, she is such a B*tch. LITERALLY! BWAAAHAHAHAaaaaa- you won't get it. Sorry.) But the sheer scope of the end product was completely out of line with all that came before, aside from a rapid and mysterious and basically pulled-out-of-the-ass buildup just before that part of the timeline was begun. It happened right after FASA (the original BT creators/owners) closed and sold it to Wizkids, who immediately revamped the timeline to introduce their clicky-tech collectable miniature game... Which is no longer around, but Battletech is. Shows you which is more appealing long term, eh?

Anyway, TL:DR: the story/timeline Badguys were turned up to 11, but in a bad way that broke the suspension of disbelief. (Seriously? Everyone was compromised? Whole planets dropped off the grid, to be turned into armed camps of brainwashed soldiers? Hyper-advanced tech that came out of nowhere? F***ING CYBORG ARMIES? NO! Just NO!)

So I broke ways with the timeline in the game year 3067, and created my own version. I'm sure that makes me pathetic and all, but dammit, at least mine still looks like Battletech in its heyday.

I agree with Ivan on that.

Those who make Fluttershy cry should PAY.

This is...surprisingly good.

This is easily up to par with the Thessalonica Legacy, and might I say even surpasses it in the action and interactions aspect! You sir have this story on my absolute best favorites, and I eagerly await more updates from you!

Just earlier today my friend was watching me browse through FiMfiction and asked me "Why are you reading this pile of shit?" I replied with "To find the occasional diamonds in the rough." This story is one of those diamonds, and I count myself as damned lucky to have found it!

Also, Ivan is best character. Period. xD

P.S. If you don't mind, do check out the fanfic titled "The Order of Koaxia"; it's in a somewhat similar vein to yours - epic action with mind-blowing combat, except that it's a mega-crossover of multiple elements from various sources at once. I also endeavor to make pop culture references whenever I can, which is something I noticed in your writing style and massively like as well

So so far we have the heavy, and the demo/engineer with the outrageous Scottish accent.

With such a large cast you are doing a great job at keeping the characters both separate and distinct. I don't have any trouble remembering who's who and their personalities really shine even in the short period of time they are "on screen."

Our signature attractions are the entire planet being renamed with punny names, the legendary Pinkie Pie parties, the physics-defying cliff-city of Canterlot, and more vegetarian dishes than you can possibly eat. Literally you probably can't digest half of them.

Please check your weapons on the moon, and have a nice day!

Edit: Oh! and the horse-drawn horse-drawn carriages, cloudsdale, a city made entirely of weather formations, numerous pre-cut gemstones that you can pull right out of the earth... magic, Pinkie Pie parties (hey, they're worth two mentions), and what is now the battlefield of Manehattan, currently a hotspot under attack by a number of large mechanized combat vehicles. If you want to blow stuff up, I'd suggest Manhattan.

This sounds interesting, but I've no clue about what "Battletech" is (to be honest, I'd never heard of it before seeing this fic )

The author has made it pretty accessible. Some of the jokes will go over your head (I haven't been up with the BattleTech universe in well over a decade so some went over my head) but the vast majority is easy to pick up. If you want a better understanding of things you could probably figure out everything you need from about 2 minutes in a wiki (I imagine there's a wiki on BattleTech afterall). Don't bother trying to get the political references, I don't think it's worth slogging through for that but, this is amazingly well written in my opinion. It deals with very serious issues better than a lot of authors do and doesn't paint all humans as horrible monsters or saints. Instead the author delves into the fact that a lot of things in the real world are neither black nor white.

I personally believe it is worth the read, if nothing else then for Ivan

(Chapter 5) I remember coming across this story before, when it was only up to chapter 4. I'm glad to see that one of the mech squads has a commander who isn't a xenophobic, bloodthirsty, barbaric son-of-a-brachiosaurus. Still, that other squad has earned a retribution worse than cataclysm for what they did. Several months since I read about their invasion and I still see red about it.

I started reading this , when you were posting it on fanfiction.com. It is a nice balance between drama and humor.  

I agree with HellRyden.

This story is either equal-to-better than The Thessalonica Legacy, and has more interaction with the casts than the former. While The Thessalonica Legacy was the first Battletech crossover, and had excellent character interaction between the BT cast and the mane6, Falling Stars has it better, with human characters that are more solid and have better personality, most making this feel like 2009's Avatar movie, in terms of character feeling.

And yes, Ivan from TF2, hells yeah. =3

Ivan is fucking BOSS. Ivan + Pinkie Pie = EPIC COMEDY DUO.

Speaking if characters, I can picture voice actor Gary Chalk voicing James McKenna, and Michael Ironside voicing the villain O'Connell. Don't ask me why, but those voice actors seem to fit the profile. Plus, whenever I read Jame's lines, I picture Gary Chalk's voice. It just "fits" the character perfectly.

Everyone knows a thirty? ton object smashing into another has quite a bit of momentum to crush almost anything in its path. Somewhat like where ramming speed in space with capital ships is pretty much any speed. Go melee weapons!

Yeah you can put the action off if I can keep getting interactions like Seabreeze and Carter.

Oh please god no... she took an entire battalion of mechs to drop the first time. Nevermind what some of her armor doo-dads could do on an Atlas or such. Imagine a cooling spell integrated into the heat-sinks of a laser-heavy mech.

The relationship between Carter and Seabreeze was really well executed.  I want to see more of that.  Also the interactions between McKenna and his wife were cute.  This is an awesome story!

I think I can safely speak for all of us when I say watching hundreds or thousands of tons of metal murder machines duke it out is a lot of fun! For me at least though, what really makes this story is the characterization, and the interaction between everyone. I'd rather have more stories like this one, with lots of descriptive, great dialogue and the wonderful mix of adorableness and thoughtfulness that this type of writing provokes, than what passes for a lot of fiction out there. Don't get me wrong, love having 'mechs blasting each other to pieces but, especially in the HiE genre we don't usually get this quality of writing often

'Thou,' is singular, you only use it for one person. When you're talking to multiple people, you use 'you.'

Also, you better not have both the humans and the ponies speaking English.

'Hath,' is only for 3rd person singular. 'Mine,' is only used if the next word starts with a vowel, just like 'an.'

This fic is simply FANTASTIC!  I saw somepony compare it to the Great Granddaddy of all breathtakingly superb HiE - the Thessalonica Legacy and this was more than enough to spark my interest (not to mention putting the expectations in the "impossibly hard to even dream to achieve" levels). So far, I must say, this gem has lived up to it! Is it better than the Dashukta's work? No, I still think the Thessalonica Legacy (TL) is better. But Falling Stars looks like a very close second, which is a feat most Authors can't even imagine to achieve...

First, the praise:

- fantastic characterization. Everypony and everybody is always in-character, even if situation is vastly different from what ponies are used to

- phenomenal battles. I must say, I agree that those are better than the TL.

- attention to details. The scenes are very believable and sensible. It is clear that each one took a very long time to plan and write.

Then the blame :):

- some minor grammar problems (like "to to" in one of the chapters). Those are minor and far apart so this is a non-issue

- sometimes it is difficult to read, requiring a bit of concentration to differentiate one person from another. (being a non-native speaker doesn't help too :) but this is irrelevant and you should not "dumb down" your work)

As you can see, it's super difficult for me to offer any really constructive criticism, because at this level of awesomeness it's much closer to biased opinions than objective facts (e.g. a grammar problems are objective but "difficult to read" is highly biased). Yes, I've read the comments on Equestria Daily and maybe some of them are justified but my personal, biased and highly subjective opinion still holds: THIS IS ONE GOOD, SOLID, EXPERTLY WRITTEN STORY!

I usually end my reviews with a "moar" but at this level of quality I will not. This one deserves "may we have MORE of this please?!".

This is by the best "Human in Equestria" story that I have ever read.  Yes, I prefer it to "The Thessalonica Legacy." (TL)

I feel like it has a much greater sense of scale.  TL involved a grand total of one Mech in Equestria, and it was just a Valkyrie, and all it does is run around for a minute.  In my opinion, there just was not enough crossover in that crossover.  Don't get me wrong, TL is still one of my all-time favorites, and I often look back at it for ideas on my own story (not trying to advertise here, but please check my story out).  But the ponies and humans never really meet on the scale that they do in "Falling Stars" (FS).  Maybe I just love walking death machines blowing the countryside into scrap (okay not maybe.  BEYOND ANY DOUBT).  Thanks to this story, I want to start playing Battletech.

Furthermore, I have been watching this story since it appeared, and I definitely think that its quality has ben steadily improving.   Dialogue makes more sense, characters are well fleshed out, and I cannot wait for the huge 50-or-so Mech battle that I predict will be coming up.

I would like to say that FS is part of what inspired me to write my own story.  Thank you, Rokas, for writing this great story.

I almost skipped reading this due to the mechs in the description of the story. I thought that there would be no way that this could work in a story about equestria. But the ratings where so high that it persuaded me to open the first chapter for a sampling. And I never stopped reading...

Best story so far where the mane 6 stay in character in all situations. And we even have a believable Pinkie Pie, not over the top or utterly random, just Pinkie Pie being Pinkie Pie. And dear lord you do not want to get Celestia angry...

Also excellent and believable interactions between al characters, Equestrian or not. I can't wait to see how this all unfolds. I suspect the ensuing clash will be epic.

With regards to The Thessalonica Legacy I wouldn't really compare them.

(SPOILER ALERT)

The The Thessalonica Legacy is all about explaining the odd technological advances ponies have made, so you can replace battlemechs with Harry Potter and still get roughly the same result. Good story but not centered on the battletech universe.

Falling Stars on the other had is alllll about the battlemechs. In this story two worlds collide.

Oh god the pun.

I really enjoy this fic. I'm not familiar with Battlemech, but at no point in the story did I feel lost or like I was missing something by not having the proper background. That's a very big plus for any crossover, so I applaud you! I also really enjoy the interaction between the humans and the ponies. There are really many HiE fics and crossovers, but very few do the interaction between the two in a way that feel natural. You most certainly did. And I think the key component of your succes is that you manage to keep a balance. Despite the humans having the obvious technological advantage, you don't make it feel as if the ponies are useless. The ponies have their own worth and are useful and important, despite their lack of technology, and your humans aknowledge that and even rely on it. That's very refreshing, actually, I haven't seen it often.

And that's why I like it. You feel like both parties are exchanging knowledge and both learn something from the other, and that when they work together, they become a very powerful force. It's small things like James and co praising Bic Mac for his amazing job at making the runway so quickly, or his praise for the pegasi for managing to land a hit on those Spider mechs. Your humans don't look down on the ponies, don't go all "oh, those silly stupid cavemen, here, let us show you how it's done". Instead, Commander James and his men see that the ponies have skills and abilities of their own that are worth praise and admiration. Very important for fics like these. You even managed to have Celestia defeated and NOT make it feel cheap or wrong! I can't tell you how much I dislike it when authors give the Princesses the nerf-stick beating. Instead, you showed Celestia was a genuine and powerful threat, establishing her individual might and preserving our respect for her even though she was in the end defeated. In fact, her defeat feels almost like a mere result of circumstances. It appears that, had she had proper information on her enemy before engaging them, she might very well have won.

I'm definately on my seat for the next update. But personally, there are two things that I would actually love to see, even if they probably won't happen. Still, a brony can dream, no? I was thinking that since the baddies teamed up with the gryphons, maybe the ponies should try and get some Dragons on their side. Dragons are huge, strong, and have the advantage that they can fly and deliver devastating attacks while doing so (breathing fire and all). And as we saw in "Dragon Quest", there are thousands of dragons in this world. I'm sure if the ponies promised them a lot of shinies, they'd be willing to heat things up a bit for the invaders. ;) It's just because I'd like to see O'Connell deal with a pack of dragons. *evil grin* And you know who else I'd just die to see O'Connell deal with? Discord. Nah, of course it won't happen, he's sealed in stone, he's insane and he's evil. But you got to admit, the image of the look on the humans' faces when dealing with Discord is just too much. If O'Connell felt bad about cute little ponies, how's he gonna feel about chocolate rain, dancing buffalos, houses floating upside down, drinking glass and exploding chocolate milk?

Anyway, keep up the very good work, good sir.

Yes, it was in response to you. And I admit, I was wrong, I did some reading in MechWarrior 3rd Edition and 10-14 meters was the quoted height range, and I could see the Atlas being 15 easy. So I'll probably change that in future chapters and then dig through the old ones to fix 'em.
