Sketcha-Holic

A goofy little miss that's here to write and draw to her heart's content. Her imagination doesn't know when to shut off.

E

Little Tomato Sandwich has a bunch of friends! Every day he's invited to their homes or whatever outings said friends were going on. He's allowed to go--as long as he gets his homework done.

But each outing feels incomplete without his big brother Cheese, and so he implores him to join them.

And each time, the answer is "No."

But little Tommy will not be discouraged, as he continues to ask his increasingly reclusive brother to at least show his friends why he considers him his best friend.

Inspired by "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?" from Frozen. Cover art drawn by me. Side story to Midnight Snack and It Broke The Camel's Back.

I've been waiting for this one eagerly! Although--did Cheese really punch Tommy on the nose? Like, on purpose? I probably misread that.

I do not care for their mother. Not at all.

And it is such a cute picture! I think you've done some neat stuff, developing a backstory and a family for Cheese.

yay! I can finally understand why he ran away! the rock farmers daughters will make more sense!THANK YOU!

4807640 That punch was more of a reflex due to being startled. Should have been clear on that. :twilightsheepish:

That is a nice rewrite. I hope that Tommy wants to reconcile. I only hope in your other story that they do. Good luck with future stories and chapters.

After reading this I have and idea for a small side story, can I use Tommy for I story I have in mind? (Also great story)

4807894 Well, okay. Remember to give credit where credit is due.

This story was amazing :pinkiehappy: it was.....god I'm speechless I will give this 5/5 mustaches :moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache::moustache:

Also that was so sad!!!! :raritycry:

Poor Cheese. I know what it's like to get poor grades while your brother gets good marks. I'm younger, but still. A C is a failure? For me, it's a godsend.

I haven't watched Frozen, so I didn't get the parts that you were implementing with it. I got a pretty good idea, but I didn't catch it all.

I'd hate to imagine my son becoming a failure, with a job that doesn't pay well, a wife and children that you'll disappoint, and Celestia forbid that you become a hobo!"

Yeah... so, about that... The link to TRFD is great here. I think it's safe it saying this can be considered the canon backstory to why Cheese ran off. It's going to be nice to see Tommy and Cheese interact once more, if that's what's going to happen. Tommy's a great guy, but Cheese just can't see how much his brother loves him.

Also, are all the dislikers out on the site today? Why has this gained 3 dislikes?

I think it's safe it saying this can be considered the canon backstory to why Cheese ran off.

You mean canon to RFD, right? I love Sketcha-Holic's headcanon here, but mine's different and I'm sticking to mine for my own story. There is no real "canon" backstory about Cheese's family.

Also, are all the dislikers out on the site today? Why has this gained 3 dislikes?

I was wondering the same thing. Very few things make it off the front page without one dislike. Sometimes I've imagined a sort of bizarre militia that stays on a roster, all of whom make sure each story receives at least one dislike. Maybe because it uses Frozen and some people are cranked off about that? I've been puzzled by some recent dogpiles I've gotten recently, too.

I think of this as possibly being a RFD side story, and definitely as exploring Cheese's family of origin, so it's more than that.

Or we're back to Square One: people sure can be jerks.

Aaaawww what a sad story but other than that great job I got a little emotional ;)

Yeah I meant canon towards RFD. Cheese's backstory is one which has vast opportunities for exploration. The writers likely didn't expand on it on purpose, given the episode timing and songs, but then that's what headcanon does. Canon for Cheese is just, "He left Manehatten because nopony knew his name and wasn't his friend." Where do you go from there?

I think we've had a few grumpy-pants out today. Pretty much every fic I saw when I woke up had at least one dislike. That sounds normal, but some stories had many more. They aren't all terrible either; I just think some Cranky Doodle Donkeys are out today. But still, the Dislike Militia is out and about. Better hide yo wives and hide yo kids, cause they're disliking every fic out there.

I know at least one is an automatic dislike; I received it not even five minutes after this story passed moderation. I don't know if it's just a member of this Dislike Militia, or if it's a Cheese Sandwich hater, OC hater, or Frozen hater. Or maybe this person is a combination of all four. :twilightoops:

If there's any legitimate reason to dislike this, it may be because Cheese might be coming off as a little selfish. That was my main worry about this story.

4809093 To me, Cheese comes off as a desperately unhappy adolescent, that's all. The social anxiety would be much easier to deal with if his mom wasn't at home ripping his ego to shreds AND undermining his relationship with his brother. But then, frankly, he reminds me of me at that age. I was thoroughly miserable. We had an attic and I moved up there and refused to come down unless I had to. It was like that until I got out of the house and went to college and it was an entirely different world and I made some kind of success of my life.

"I'd hate to imagine my son becoming a failure, with a job that doesn't pay well, a wife and children that you'll disappoint, and Celestia forbid that you become a hobo!"

You gotta love Cheese's Mom for hitting every possible major anxiety point here. :flutterrage:

EDIT: It's the Dislike Militia.

I just wanna point out a major hole in The Rock Farmer's Daughter's: that means Nightmare Moon rules over Equestria on account this isn't usual Pinkie Pie so that means the elements couldn't be used to stop her.

Just read the rest of the description forget what i said then.:twilightsheepish:

Young Tomato Sandwich story? Brace for feels.

Oof. This... yowza. This hit hard. Very well done. It's easy for stories to lean on miscommunication as a plot propellant, but this one did it very well. There are clearly established reasons why none of what needs to be said gets out. Thank you for another part of the tempestuous saga of the Brothers Sandwich.

I've always wanted to know the story behind Cheese leaving. (From you RFD story.)
Is this one connected to that one at all? Or are you going to make a separate backstory.

Gosh, this one got me crying :fluttercry:
If the two of them just spoke to each other, they'd knew how the other feels and thinks 'bout the situation :unsuresweetie:
But meh... it's a great story though..

poor cheesie. now i feel numb.....:pinkiesad2: yeesh these two had it rough just poor both of them.

Oh man, oh man. I'm not really a fan of Frozen (in fact, I kind of dislike it), but this story is an exception. This was beautifully written, liked and favorite.

Cheese snorted. "My accordion is not ridiculous! What if that ended up being my cutie mark?"

Cheezycordion cutie mark!

"Cheese Alfred? Sandwich, I'm not done talking to you!"
