This series is loosely adapted from the canon established in the first two decades of Classic Who, the RTD years, the Doctor Who Magazine comics, the Eighth Doctor Adventures, and the Big Finish audio plays, with some room for deviating in a variety of areas.

Well, we did insert new ideas here and there in the Classic Who era for example, hence Luna. Probably mostly changes in the John Wiles, Peter Bryant, Graham Williams, and JNT eras, so no canon that was really that sacred. And there are some things from the Virgin New Adventures I might want to alter, but not so much with the Chad Eighth Doctor Adventures (geddit? The Virgin New Adventures vs. the Chad Eighth Doctor adventures...okay, I'll show myself out now). I'd like to touch on the details one by one as I keep writing in this!

Yes and no. There were hints that this occasionally happens to the Twelfth Doctor, and the Seventh did something like this in the Virgin New Adventures.
But it's not like that this time. This time, this is the Tenth Doctor who's not been fully suppressed yet and is trying desparately to break through to his new, still incomplete, incarnation.
I wanted to let the Tenth have a proper farewell and also create a bit of conflict revolving around the Eleventh Doctor's regeneration, while also kind of a meta thing, addressing the readers who might still have their reservations of the ideas from the Moffat era.

The thing that I didn't care much for during the Eleventh's initial run was that much of the time, the scares were game-based rules (like "remember" or "don't blink"), rather than something more uncanny. I wanted to write a more Classic Who-styled story, and the Philip Hinchcliffe era, a favorite of mine, sometimes lifted a lot from existing horror stories. Because Dracula is public domain, a classic tale, and because I wanted to reserve my more original ideas for books I intend to write, I picked Dracula. More importantly, Dracula is a story about a vampiric aristocracy, which aligns well with what we were going for with Sunset Shimmer, and thus Dracula seemed to be a great fit to kick off for a scary start.

In Bram Stoker's work, Dracula was largely written in the form of letters and journal entries from the perspectives of the various characters in the novel. To be faithful to his work, I chose to do the same.
