Featured Sci-Fi Story: "Equus Metamorphosis" ( http://bit.ly/1YnanMR )

E

Octavia Melody is an expert at hiding her fear, but in the world of dreams, her subconscious takes hold and she is forced to confront the growing number of nightmares hidden within her. As she faces her anxieties one-by-one, she encounters terrified dream ponies, stalking black-robed figures and an ever-elusive Vinyl Scratch narrowly evading the cellist. Octavia must realize the truth about her terror or her fear may ruin more than her sleep...

This is the darkest of the current four surreal dream tales I've written, but the payoff is totally different from the related stories. I recommend Octavia's story for fans of Silent Hill. The other three are located below:

Rarity's Dream: And then the door opened...
Twilight's Dream: Unicore
Lyra's Dream: The Underville

Wow. This was really enjoyable to read. One of my favorite things about it was how every portion of the dream had a purpose. Although it might not seem like it at first, it's all representative of a much larger picture that's revealed when Octavia finally confesses her true feelings to Vinyl at the end. This whole story reads like a deeply thought out vision and I enjoyed every second of reading this.

Wow! Thank you so much for the kind comment!

I was really hoping for readers to catch that connection at the end with Octavia's confession and the events of the story.

Writing this dream was one long test of what I felt I could do with a pony story. There were some seriously mature moments of danger and violence which made me wonder how far I should go with it, but in the end, the balance worked really well and it came together in a very cohesive way. This is totally different from any other surrealist story I've ever written, and the vision does make sense in the end.

Thank you again for your well-thought comment! :pinkiehappy:

Damn, heavy stuff, mate... Heavy stuff... And a happy ending as well. Nice.:scootangel:

This really was an enjoyable read, and the end was a game changer, the dark, depressing, mysterious world that was the Otherworld changed into a light... A light that felt warm when looking into it. Safe.. When Octavia finally woke and realized she was OK, that her friend was OK, that their friendship was still intact, I actually felt joy, as if I shared her own.

Overall, great story.

Thank you so much for such kind words! I'm so happy you caught the switch at the end where Octavia learned a lot about herself through her whole dream experience. I made a huge effort to connect Octavia's interpretation with everything that happened in her dream. And I'm so happy the ending uplifted the entire story to the point where it made it the light at the end of the dark night. And that's so wonderful you felt joy at the end of this story! YES! That is a success for me! :)

Thank you! *hugs* And thank you for adding this story to your story shelves. :)

Creepy.

Dreams are a burden and a release for me. A release in that they free me from the bonds of my mundane existence and a burden in that they have to end.

Nightmares, however, I can do without. Yet they still provide a sense of clarity. They make us face what we fear most. We can't hide from ourselves, not in there.

Yep yep! Writing dreams helps me experience them without being asleep. Also, I can share them with others in a wayt hat provides context :)

Thanks for reading!
