After thousands of years of ruling over Equestria and the umpteen amount of changes in social structure over that time, Celestia and Luna discover that they do not understand their subjects as well as they used to. After all, it's been several millennia since they were like every other average pony.
However, that's about to change when an eavesdropping Discord comes up with a "brilliant" idea.
How will the lives of the two sisters change? Will the lives of their new personas "Color Craft" and "Lyrical Rhapsody" be better than their old ones? Will the friends they meet along the way be too good to leave? And most importantly, will Discord ever be pretty?! No, probably not.

A little advice, your description is the first 'hook' for your story. It needs to be concise and intriguing, not informative. Something like this would be much more appropriate.
Everything else you have sounds like a summery of the first chapter, and why would I bother reading it when you just told me everything that will happen?
(On a more personal notes: Discord doesn't use 'spells'. Besides not needing them in the first place, spells are formalized, predictable, stable, and BORING magic.)

Unpredictable in the sense that you wouldn't expect him to use a spell from a book. Its merely a plot device though, and I understand if you see it as a turn off. This seems similar in general concept to What if God Were One of Us?, and I liked the concept there (though it has been slow on the updates) so hopefully I'll like this one. I like the idea of the princess(es) "stepping down" so to speak into normal ponies. Marked to read later.

In truth, for a while now, had some theories.
Based on what we've seen, alicorns come about by a pony gaining enlightenment in regards to their special talents.
Celestia and Luna's special talents are the rising of the sun and moon.
Before their appearance in history, the unicorn tribe handled that task.
With those in mind, it stands to reason that Celestia and Luna USED to be unicorns in the ancient past. And, even back then, the unicorn tribe overall seemed like an aristocratic type of society. The thoughts of them having been in the royal family there on top of that? Makes it easy to understand how they didn't understand the common pony, if you think about it, eh?
Though, that's if you go with that theory that they USED to be unicorns. XD
