This story is a sequel to My Night
Sea Swirl is often forgotten about. She doesn't mind though. Really. It's fine. She has a nice job and a comfortable life. She can't really complain. But then Symphony comes into her life and she thinks she might finally have found a friend. Or maybe something more.
That is, until Symphony wakes up and storms off in typical Canterlot fashion. After all, you don't take a pony who nearly drowned to your home. You take her to the hospital.
But Symphony can't stop thinking about Sea Swirl. She's the first pony that has ever cared about her, or at least cared enough to save her life. And after everything else that's happened to her, it's more than she ever expected. Can she swallow her pride and anger and let Sea Swirl in?
And is Sea Swirl patient enough to wait?
I giggled at 'Symphony'.

I wouldn't call it 'utterly destroyed' just yet, it's only the first day and only five people have rated it. Although it would be nice to know why it got 3 dislikes off the bat, perhaps that's the risk of writing with minor background characters.
Regardless, I've been liking the characters so far and the continuity you've been keeping between stories, so I'm definitely looking forward to whatever you write up.
To be honest, I saw your blog post and decided it would be rude of me to follow you but not read the stories you write. I must say, I am very glad I came to that decision. The first chapter felt sort of incomplete to me, like I mentioned before, but this chapter definitely provided what was missing. Still not so fond of Symphony, buuuuuuut... she's growing on me. I'm finding the pair intriguing enough to want to see more of them, especially now that they've actually met.
The contrast between Sea Swirl's and Symphony's lifestyles was great, and I thought Symphony's assumptions were pretty believable (Sea Swirl being rich and successful, candlelit dinner, etc). Hurtful, but believable.
Can't say that I'm not really looking forward to Symphony apologizing, though.

Yay! Glad you liked the second part. I'm also pleased to hear that Symphony is growing on you, but that you don't like her just yet. That's the idea. She's a complicated pony with some serious problems as we'll find out, but that can only excuse her attitude so much.
Needless to say, that apology isn't going to be simple...
I really like how this story is turning out so far. You did show her ponyality quite well actually, she's a schemer, but I think I'd be wrong to think that's all there's ever going to be behind her. Looking forward for the next chapter. Until next time,

That is an interesting question. I suppose they sound like however you want them to sound like, but here's my take on them:
Symphony is quiet and reserved, even more so than how the fandom sees Octavia. She doesn't whisper though, just speaks quietly. Think of her like you would that creepy anime girl that is always cold and distant, but is still part of the group.
Sea Swirl would be very laid back, but also firm when she needs to be. She would sound like like the fun girl in the group, but also the one that can easily brush others off if it came to it. It's how she manages to stay in business in Canterlot when she is so 'rude' to some of her customers.
Interesting, interesting... I wonder how it is they become (barely) closer to have a moment like in the christmas story you posted.

The Hearth's Warming story takes place after this, or at least later in the timeline for this story, but the short answer is stubbornness on both their parts.

Nice to see this one update. It's an interesting story, though with how things are progressing (which can happen in stories that grow a life of their own), I'm curious how the background gifts story fits (if it still fits). They seem to be getting closer and closer, or at least more aware of one another in a physical sense. Something that isn't readily noticeable in the pre-mentioned story.
EDIT: You know what? Re-reading the whole thing and seeing how much she reacted to parents being mentioned, I bet that IS her dad. ..... This is going to be VERY interesting. And yes, I don't want to potentially spoil anything if my guesses are good and solid, so meh

Next chapter should be out by the end of this month. I've got my mojo back, and need to make up for lost time. Plus, nearing the crux/crisis here, so I want to get to it.
I will leave your guesses alone, as you don't want to spoiled, but I can tell you that this story will fit in with The Background Gifts. There was a clue in this chapter--at the beginning, where it's revealed that Hearth's Warming is coming up and Sea Swirl needs help--but the better clues are in The Background Gifts. Sea Swirl has thought Symphony was attractive from the beginning, but she was shut down so hard that she just buried the thought. However, if you go back and read Vinyl's chapter and note the earrings when Sea Swirl touches them, Symphony's chapter, and Sea Swirl's ending chapter, combined with what Sea Swirl just got from another pair of ponies last chapter, all the pieces are there. The trick is going to be putting them together so it doesn't feel like a mess, but I think I'll pull it off.
