will the real chromosome please stand up

    Is this thing on?

Good. You're gonna want to see this.

I am not far many more things than I am, and among them are the following: I am not Chromosome. I am not who you think. I am not a vigil for this account's original owner. I am not a joke, or a trick, or a clever ruse. And as I've just recently and fortuitously come into possession of it, I am not planning on just leaving an account with over 800 followers to sit around unused and unloved while there are stories to be written and a fickle bastard of a feature box to invade.

Conversely, I am controversial. I am intruding upon the legacy of someone you all seemed to have treasured while he was here. But I am also, by Chromosome's private admission, free to do whatever I want with this account. And I am intrigued, though not discomforted yet, with the choice I now face.

What the hell should I do with this thing?

I could try to emulate Chromosome's style and pick up where he left off. I could use this as a dumping ground for any plot thread I'm not sure if I want to follow. I could take commissions for anything under the sun. I could write clop, depraved or otherwise. I could do nothing at all, and merely stand guard over the remnants and rubble left behind by those who came before me. Regardless of what ends up happening here, I'll go ahead and add one more thing that I'm not.

    I'm not going away.

Arriverderci, my little new friends, and good riddance to anyone who's decided to unfollow this account and direct their inordinately valued attention elsewhere. Any of you who want to stick around and watch what's about to go down... just call me Maverick. We just might have a little bit of fun together.

    Four Nails to a Coffin

Hello, everyone. It's been a while! Sorry about that. Between finals looming on the horizon, other obligations and... well, just general laziness, I've been incapable of really keeping on top of journals. I'm sure you guys don't mind too much though.

As I write this, I realise how this journal is another small drop in a rising ocean. Your tumblrs and facebooks and fimfiction accounts by now are probably black with notifications heralding one thing: season four has finally come. And wow, has it been a wait. You've endured a shoddy third season, a longer-than-usual dry spell, and finally you're being rewarded with one kicker of a full season. It's like a whole new world again.

"But the time has come," the Walrus said, "to talk of many things."

I'm scratching my head as to how to put this best. Most of you know that when it comes to public announcements, I do my best to avoid waffling about my personal dealings. However, I believe that in this situation, at least some sort of explanation for what comes next. In past hiatus, I've always asked myself and my friends if they believe that immersing ourselves too fully in "serious" fanfiction was spoiling the show for us. The kind of emotion and theme that was being put across in writing couldn't be possibly matched by a children's cartoon. And it can't. But it didn't matter, because whenever we went back, we were reminded why we loved it so much to begin with. The jokes, the character, the all around fun. It's refreshing, in a sense, to get that feeling.

Now imagine that wave didn't come. Imagine that in the show's absence the cynicism and maturity brought on by copious fanfics didn't get washed away by the purging light of pony marvel. Imagine that feeling gnawing at me the entire month leading up to the season four premiere until it came to the test today.

I guess that what I'm trying to say is this: season four is going to be great. Amazing, even. Everything's been amped up from the characters to the animation. I can tell this from only ten minutes of having watched it. However this won't include me, because instead of finding myself enjoying the show, I find myself uncomfortable watching it, awkward. It's like when your parents tell you santa isn't real (spoilers!) and the magic just vanishes. And with my one last tie to a fandom I've got little love left for, what does it mean?

Well, as far as you should be concerned, absolutely nothing! I'm going to keep writing Bezithan, I'm going to continue my presence on this website. Honestly, nothing will be different. Things are still the same, and all that's been added is a deadline. Bezithan shall be my last contribution to the ponyverse, and honestly? No other story could be more appropriate. My writing muscles are aching to move on to writing about things that aren't plush cartoon critters. I want that, I really want that. I want to be able to call myself a writer with no strings attached, to get published, to do what I want. And I guess I realise I can't do that here anymore.

Anyways, that's all I really have to say on the subject. The future's still bright, folks! I've got a ton in store for Bezithan, and I can't wait to take you on this last trip. It's gonna be a good one. I hope you all enjoy season four. Give Celestia a kick in the seat for me.

Originally written by Chromosome.

My name is Canvas. I remember because I wrote it in the corner of the white box. It takes twelve steps to get from the cot to the wall. And the lights hurt my eyes.

(Note: The story isn't in color because I decided to try this without the gimmick! But I still recommend reading the GDocs version.)

I predict Chromosome will quit around November 2012.

Thanks so much for posting this up on here. I've always wanted to read it and Google docs hate me :pinkiesad2:

I read this on EQD!  I translated it into human form and showed it to my teacher - she loved it!

#4 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I was wondering when you'd show up and place this masterpiece in here. :raritywink:

Just a suggestion: You could always "paint" the words here on FiMFiction and tell the users that they're supposed to read it whilst using the Dark background feature FiMFiction provides. That way, the story's magic wouldn't be lost.

(You know... that black box when you're reading stories... the one that allows you to change font sizes and styles. The background selection is over there).

I remember reading this when it was on EQD. Jesus but it's great.

Don't really have much else to say, other than I gave it a like and a favorite on principle, because damn if it doesn't deserve it.

#6 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

Oh God, I loved this story! Thanks for putting on here! :pinkiehappy:

And yeah, the original Google docs one is better. The whole usage of colours was amazing

:yay:

Hope she doesn't read much pony fic, for your sake! :rainbowkiss:

>>435099

I was indeed considering that option, but then I passed it in favor of throwing this out there in all its barebone nudity. Just to see how it fares without the color gimmick.

I read this a while back on Equestria Daily and I loved it!  It's a great story and it really makes you think.  Thanks for posting it on here.

#9 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

This story is freaking amazing.  one of my favorites by far.  Lots of thanks from me for uploading it here.

Hurray! It would be so much easier to read over here.

#11 · 133w, 2d ago · 1 · · White Box ·

Needs more colors!  If you haven't read it and are reading the comments for some reason, I would suggest the Google Docs version.  Usually, there isn't much difference, but this one adds a lot.  Like colors.  But yeah, this story was great.  I wish I could write this well.  I'm simply green with envy

#12 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I love this its so..... great!

#13 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I remember reading this on EqD, and a friggin' love it. It's so powerful and deep. It's just magnificent.  :moustache: I wish I had more words to describe it.

#14 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I really enjoyed this one EQD, and Ilm glad I could favorite it here.

"Then I look up at the branches of the tree. And I smile."

"One is thicker than the rest. Mightier."

"Yes."

"I think I’ll look good there."

"I pick up my brush."

Oh god. What does it mean. Please don't tell me it means what I think it means.

#17 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

This is one of the best fanfics I have ever read and it deserves all the attention it gets.

But the formatting on google docs is what really makes it shine, gives it that extra polish that pushes it above and beyond.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, it's still a fantastic work. The color formatting just made it really stand out.

#18 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean but I love it anyways!  :pinkiesad2:

#19 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

>>435287

Its rated for everyone, so I beleive he means he's going to paint himself lying on the branch asleep or something similar, although what you're thinking would take this story to a whole new deep.

#21 · 133w, 2d ago · 1 · · White Box ·

Oh, hey, it's White Box! I love this story! Probably the first fic that I saw and randomly decided "You know what, I'm going to read this." I didn't actually read pony fiction until then. So... thanks, I guess x)

I think it still works well without the colour. I need to write a proper review at some point.

#22 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

Yep, it's still awesome.

Not nearly as impactful without the formatting, but that's what Google Docs is for.

#23 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

Oh god why is this so sad.

#24 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

This story made me cry.

AND IT IS VERY HARD TO DO THAT.

#25 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

AHHHHHHH

This is awesome. I wanna reread it and write a literary criticism!.... maybe this weekend

#26 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

>>435130

Works well without coloring the words, absolutely no need to worry about.

#27 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

OMG, I loved this story on EQD, sooo glad it's here as well, so much easier to keep track of good stories on here.

I was actually surprised how much I liked this, since I usually avoid stories about OC characters, but this was fabulously written and portrayed. I can't wait to see what's next up for you :pinkiehappy:

#29 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I cried. I cried a resevoir of tears whilst reading this. How can you write something this sad :pinkiesad2:

Wow... What an excellent read!! I'm amazed!

Just a quick question though, did you draw any inspiration from The Giver by Lois Lowry for this story?

#31 · 133w, 2d ago · 1 · · White Box ·

The concept was amazing, but I've read it before...

I can't remember where though...

I'm afraid to say "The Giver", but maybe it's "The Giver" combined with another tale.  Otherwise, very nice story.  I do feel like some of the colors made Canvas feel the wrong way (at least to me) because as you know, the meaning of colors are totally dependent on the opinion of the person.  So I guess it's just me.  But seriously, this story is very well executed, of course, but the randomly powerful talents of the ponies just comes out of nowhere.  I mean, I could tell Canvas would be a painter because of his interest with colors, but the other ponies' talents are just kinda named.  Of course, for the purposes of the story it was the best way to do it I guess.

Anywho, it was a very, very well-written story.  I feel as though if bronies were to humanize their stories (for the sake of getting non-bronies to read it), we would be assimilating a lot more people.  I'd also like to be able to convince my non-brony friends to read stories like these, but they refuse to cause of the ponies.  It's a shame.

#32 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

Yes! It's about time I saw this story on Fimfic. I always liked this story, and some elements are present in my own work. Hope to see more from you

#33 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

This is the first anything in a long time that seriously made me step the fuck back and think over what I was doing with my life.

Well done.

Very fucking well done.

#34 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I'm amazed. I didn't want to comment because I couldn't think of anything to really say, but here I am. This just left me with a kind of spark -- something in my mind is trying to click together now. Hopefully I can figure it out. I know it sounds strange, but it's true. Thanks.

And, just as a side note, I believe you can write in colors on this website. I saw the Google Documents version. Maybe this version could benefit somehow from the color changes?

#35 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

Without a doubt one of the best fanfics ever written.

I have been waiting for the day this went up on fimfiction.

Read this on EqD already. I can't even express my reaction to how wonderful this was with words or reaction images, and I have a fuckhuge reaction folder. I give this 100 out of 10 moustaches.

#37 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I remember writing a blog directing people to this story when it was first posted on EqD.

Hopefully Chrome won't be pissed at me for writting this.

Anywho, If you read his other stories you'll notice that those same characters make cameos. Sometimes important ones. Basically it's his method of tying together all of his work.

This is probably the most thoughtful and inspirational fanfic in the entirety of the fandom. It is magnificent. and the googledocs format with the altered colors really completes the story. If not for being afraid to show a pony fanfic to my English teacher, I would show it to her in a heartbeat because this is wonderful.

#44 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I very much enjoyed this. Normally I pass by sadfics, but this will make me think twice about it.

#45 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I miss the color coating of the words, it added a unique mix to the whole thing.

#46 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

This was some of the most dynamic and powerful writing I've seen on this site. Not a lot of people can do what you can, my friend. Keep writing, I think you have many more stories to tell.

#47 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

I remember reading on EqD.

Excellent story. So much emotion and drama packed into it. Adds a lot of diversity to ponyfics

#48 · 133w, 2d ago · · · White Box ·

holy mother of celestia, I was only reading this on april the 9th on google docs :3 great that you uploaded it here, masterpiece, also, I read off-key the day before that

Ah so this trippy story is on here now too. Good stuff. I may not love it but it is more interesting than a lot of fics these days.
