Part of what inspired this style of writing and storytelling is "The Invisible Man" by H.G. Wells. Stranger comes to town, town gets curious, town finds out more about this stranger than they ever really wanted to know. and the whole "Invisible Twilight Sparkle" element in Chapter two was also something of a shout-out.

I like a lot of the same franchises and tv shows Chris likes, and yet I'm employed, my kinks and fetishes aren't all that disgusting to those who know of them (Goth chicks, man!), I have some talent in the field of art and writing, I have goals and a direction in life, my family is still in touch with each other and relatively functional, I'm in good health, I don't wear stupid clothing, I am confident in both my masculinity and my heterosexuality, and while I'm lazy I still have managed to get more things done than Chris could ever hope to achieve in his lifetime.

The story does tend to ignore Chris occasionally, but you must remember... Chris dislikes being ignored. You'll notice Twilight tried going back to a normal life, but ended up getting caught up in Chris' antics again. Before that, she kept trying to just avoid him, but never could.

So it's not like the story could avoid Chris.

I've been wanting to write a Chris-Chan fanfic for years since I started following his crazy antics, so I'm pretty well-versed in his ridiculous behavior. Here's a fun anecdote: originally, he was supposed to turn down Zecora, who was merely curious about the sign, and then she would get so angry she'd poison his food so he'd turn into a toad. I changed it for a few reasons:

1. It's totally out of character for somepony like Zecora, who is usually calm

2. It didn't move the plot forward (Believe it or not, this has quite a bit of foreshadowing)

3. After the fallout from Derpygate, I realized how easily sympathetic Derpy is. Making her one of the victims of Chris' thoughtless comments would have made for a much better scene.
