Hivemind

Captain Cutie on duty!

E

It has been over twelve-hundred years since Amalthea was saved by the powerful magic of her long dead human friend. With King Haggard dead, and the Red Bull banished to the sea, all was at peace for the world of the utopian unicorns and mythical creatures alike. But when Amalthea returns to the ancient places of her memories, she unknowingly releases the full power of the beast once cast away.

With unfathomable power, and the soul of a mad king within its enraged form, the Red Bull will stop at nothing to accomplish its long overdue goal to bring its demonic soul to a peaceful rest.

A "The Last Unicorn" crossover. (Movie version)

A/N: Story inspired by a bet I lost to my editor. Credit for the idea goes to Jonsey. Credit for the image goes to *Volmise of Deviantart. Credit for suggesting the image to me goes to Rainbow Sparkle.

Ooo I liked that movie as a kid. I'ma track this. :yay:
PS: I would like it to be noted that Schmendrick was a better magician than Trixie.

That movie has been on my "To Watch" list for WAY too long. Tracking until I can rectify that. :facehoof:

I didn't watch that movie until a few months ago. Certainly worth the $5 I payed for it. And done in the same style as 'The Hobbit'. That won me over almost from the

Track for now, read alter.

Reminds me of a song by Rhapsody: The Last Winged Unicorn.

I like this. At the moment I'm not sure why. But I'm certain I will find it sooner or later. I think I'll mosey on over and read your other stories now.

This is gonna get gooooood :twistnerd:

YES! YOU SHALL FEEL THE WRATH OF YOUR EDITOR! :flutterrage:

Omg you're my reader too, but you have written a last unicorn story so now I love you more! Thank you, thank you, thank you,:pinkiehappy:
*goes off to read it*
Oh and here's a secret since you have written this amazing story for me to read; my new one is coming out tomorrow. Lets celebrate together. :yay:

Very nicely done. I had forgotten about the Last Unicorn. I don't know how, my older sister just loved that movie--literally to death. This was back in the hay-day of VHS (dang I feel old all of a sudden) she watched it till it couldn't spool anymore. I've seen it probably a hundred times and that only by consequence of being in the same room at the time, or the same car on a road trip...

There were only minor grammatical things I found but you did an excellent job composing this.
one thing I found was two instances of "everyday" you probably meant "every day" because everyday as one word is used for referring to day-to-day occurrences, eg. everyday life. like I said, very minor. I liked it very much and look forward to more!

Oh how I hope that this makes it onto EqD... :fluttercry:

>>Bastilla

>>Juhani

*notices similarities in both this story and Sins of New Eden*

It is a believable and unthought of crossover, I am sure that it has a great chance of making it there. :raritystarry:

HUZZAH! Finally, a crossover withe the Last Unicorn. (I remember seeing another one on fanfiction. My Last Unicorn.)

I remember seeing this movie when I was a child. Brings back good memories.

399831

I just hope that this crossover will be the "hidden face" type of crossover when the EqD pre-readers judge it. I wish it the best of luck

399937 I hope it has better luck than my fic, Resistance: Equestria.
(I eventually just gave up sending it to ED:fluttershysad:)

This story is great! I love hearing about what the unicorn is doing now and its sad about Schmenrick. Will she mention her love too?
I'm surprised you called her Amalthea, is that her real name? Or did Schmendrick name her that... oh well she needs a name to distinguish her from the others I guess. I'm excited to see what happens with the red bull and in Equestria! This movie was where my lil character Harmony (and me) fell in love with unicorns too!:yay:
Can't wait to read more

405420

I got some news to!

Unfortunately, it's not very good news :fluttercry:

I sent this story off to EqD for JUDGEMENT! (which is sort of good news)

But I will not update the story until I get a good response. If my story has no hope of getting onto the site, then I will update. Sorry, but getting a story onto EqD has been on my pony bucket list for a while now :twilightblush:

Ah good luck with EQdaily! Just follow their suggestions and your story will probably make it. They're tough, but helpful.
I can wait :)

412992 Are you serious? What a tool, he probably bragged about it to his pre-reader friends as well.
Thank fucking god they don't have power here, and all they can do is dislike a story. It's kind of funny actually.

396794
Not only that, but at least one actor from the hobbit makes an appearance. Well, a voice anyways.

Anyways, I look forward to seeing more of this. I just have but one question though...is she going to be the same size as the ponies of equestria, or is she going to be closer to the size of Celestia?

439112

If you have seen the movie, you would have noticed that she is very tall. So, she would be close in size comparison to celestia :twistnerd:

439167

Well, I ask because it seems to me that in this, Fluttershy is not at all bothered by her size (which, she should be, considering she's bumped into a Unicorn whose as tall as Celestia) not to mention that she lifts her up. That's why I was asking.

And yay, I get mentioned in the description! :yay:

440112

You probably should have re-read the last part. It says that she 'helped' her up:ajsmug:

Edit: Apparantly, it does not. Curse my grammar-filled brain!

440397
Don't feel too bad, I apparently suck at grammar as well (heck, sometimes I even misspell the damn word) Still, can't wait for the next chapter.

I remenber the Movie. And i like this Story so far! Track!

I loved that movie. Though her singing shattered a nearby glass or two while I was watching it

Arabelle? Bastilla? Juhani? Aria? Matilda?

I didn't think any of the unicorns had personal names, aside from Amalthea starting when she was turned into a human. They were all just named "Unicorn". Also, they were extremely solitary creatures which thought it perfectly normal to go for years without seeing another of their own kind. Did Amalthea's adventure result in some kind of widespread change to their social structure? (I guess one could imagine being herded together into the sea by the Red Bull might have compelled them to become more sociable?) Or is this just an alternate reality where they never were really like that?

Yaaaaay new chapter

452630

Here's a good answer:

Read the description and go watch the movie. This is a crossover :ajbemused:

452800

If that was a "good answer", I'd hate to see the confusing and unhelpful one. :derpytongue2:

I did figure out after I posted that you might have never read The Last Unicorn and based your story only on the movie. The parts that made it into the movie are actually pretty faithful to the book, but there's also a lot that got cut. It's a classic. Go read it!

452914

*looks at me first post*

:ohgodwhy:

I plan on reading the book whenever I find some free time (which is rare on my schedule :ajsleepy:)

453268

Very well then, I removed it. A simple 'no thank you' would have sufficed.

453280

You didn't have to. I was actually in the process of editing the story and using your words as assistance :fluttercry:

I wasn't being mean, I was just trying to make a point :fluttershbad:

Can you forgive me? :(

(I accept criticism on my stories btw :3)

453290

All the same, it was not my place to assume. I think I may suggest to the admins that there be consideration for a critiquing system, not unlike the one used on DeviantArt. Then it would be easier to give and get assistance on the writing process. We may also be able to avoid what you pointed out.

453302

In my opinion, that system sounds like a good idea (an author will be able to enable/disable the feature)

"She will remember you when Men are fairy tales in books written by rabbits." Oh, Schmendrick. Did you know? Did you know when you said that that she'd remember you just as much? :fluttercry:

TLU is one of my all-time favorite books, and a pretty darned good movie, so this fic has a lot to live up to...so far, it does not disappoint. The writing is excellent and very emotive. The characterization is also very well done; I wouldn't say everyone is exactly the same as they were in TLU (nor should they be, centuries later), but it's very much believable as a path they could take...

My one and only complaint is the extent to which the unicorns have been humanized...stuff like putting a hoof on someone's shoulder...that's just awkward with an equine-like anatomy, and using one of the few parts of your body that presumably has no feeling to offer comfort? No make sense to me...This one thing bugs my OCD so badly I'd have probably stopped reading if everything else wasn't pretty darned near perfect...I expect it won't bother me as much now that we're in Equestria, it'd just seem a natural adjustment to the extremely cartoony setting...

Anyway, definitely tracking, or, er, fav'ing. And in the days I've procrastinated finishing this comment, this has updated. Oh well. Onward and upward, then. Let's see what's in store...

P.S. It's Prince Lir, not Leer...

453935

Sorry for any misspellings or "weird" placements of certain things in the story, but I based the story off of the movie (I never knew that there was a book up until now)

When I found the movie in an old container in my bedroom, I shed manly tears not even halfway in. It pummels you with unfathomable amounts of emotion, which is probably why my friends told me that they shed manly tears too when I suggested that they watch it. :fluttercry:

About your complaint, I don't mind it. I mean c'mon! What other body part are the utopian unicorns (taken from the movie) supposed to use? Their horn? They would gouge their eyes out! :rainbowlaugh:

454049 I'd expect they'd do what animals do. Put their heads side by side, or a bit of a nuzzle, or something. Any of the myriad ways quadrupedal creatures show support or affection...

But yeah, it's just a rather intense pet peeve, and I doubt it'll bother most anyone else.

I know, right? This story is the epitome of a tear jerker, the more so because it's also brilliantly hilarious by turns. It just leaves you so much more emotionally open that way...

This is going to be awesome! It'd be mildly interesting to learn that Celestia has an inkling of whats going on.

I haven't seen The last unicorn in... 13 years.
I've only seen one other fanfic of this, and Almalthea was like a high fantasy elf or fey immortal in that one. Didn't really hang out with the ponies.

I like this one better already! You've introduced her to the rest of the MLP cast already and she's clearly got no idea how equestria works! It'll be interesting to see her learn more about he ponies.

Lovely work on this story so far. And I love the pic you made of MLP Amalthea. She looks cute. =3

Very good. I was happy to see you updated. One question though, Where's Applejack? I don't think she was mentioned at all, was this by design or did I overlook something? I noticed a few typos but I'm on my crappy little netbook right now and switching between windows is tedious so I can't tell you where at the moment. All in all, I enjoyed it very much. I like how you worked in more facial descriptions during the storytelling, it helps a lot with flow and visualizing everything. I'm curious to see the connection that Earth and Equestria share, because i'm getting a vibe there...or I have an over active imagination:rainbowlaugh: Can't wait for more!

481536

It isn't mine. A reader suggested it to me and I asked the real artist for permission to use it. You can find a link to picture in the description

481904

You'll be seeing Applejack next chapter. It would have been pretty awkward to add Applejack in the Mane 6 introduction during the 2nd chapter. :scootangel:

Interesting story so far. (Of course, being a long-time fan of The Last Unicorn helps.) Characterization feels a bit off at times and dialogue a bit stilted -- a "would this character really say/do X just that way?" issue --, at least to me, but I'm nonetheless curious where this will go next. I'm sure we haven't seen the last of the Red Bull yet, for one thing...

562067

It's finals week for me. I will be writing the next chapter as soon as I can but education is pretty important too!

Ah, the memories from that movie, I loved it and... now I want to bet 50 bits that the Red Bull will make an appearance in 3 to 5 chapters from this one.

Great work it really makes me remember.

598470

This will probably be the shortest, SHORTEST multi-chapter story I have ever done. 12 chapters at most. :twilightsheepish:
