The Great and Powerful Trixie, homeless, bitless, friendless, has been spirited away from her situation to the undecorated aerie of Gilda. The two are complete strangers to one another, knowing only that they are a match for each other. Now, inside the ramshackle redoubt of the arrogant griffin, both will see just how different they can be, and how much of a match it makes them.

(A challenge to myself, I sat down and wrote a fic all at once. It's short, and kind of quick. But it hits a lot of the elements I've always wanted to get to, especially Trixie being (what I named) Roani, inspired by the fic "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves." Incidentally, the Romani is as accurate as I can make it, with modifications for use in Equestria, and yes, Gilda's name DOES contain Latin/Greek primary elements with Gaelic conventions; think of the Griffin Kingdom as akin to Roman England, though more England than Roman.)

How to put this... oh, I know...

HNNNNNNNNNG!

:pinkiegasp::trixieshiftright: It all makes sense now, the traveling, getting run out of town, brilliant! You managed to make them such a cute couple, I just want more and more. Must remember to look up the words when I get up.

:derpyderp2:The griffin equivalent of fillyfooler...wow, that sounds like something the religious yahoos we have in our world would make up; hell, one sect probably has.

Very nice!

Okay, seriously, just who are you? I mean your stories with Luna and her manner of speech make me think you're some kind of English major and now you have a Romany character? Where'd you learn so much about them?

Making Trixie Romany was a very interesting move. There's another story where they made her a French-speaker from New Orleans. I like Gilda's description of Griffin lands. It sounds very plausible.

This was a very cool, sweet story. Love it!

Which words? I could tell you.

As I said, the idea came from another fic combined with the idea of makng Trixie an outcast constantly tryng to find a home, while having to balance the Romani nomadic nature with that.

And yes, the Griffin kingdom is a little like a conservative state mixed with Skyrim. They're not BAD. Just a bit stodgy and still very male-dominated.

In point of fact, I AM an English major. Now, not a specialist in Elizabethan/Jacobean speech, but I have gained an appreciation for it thanks to taking some courses. And I think that through my version of her I've added a new level to her.

As for the Romani part, that was inspired by another fic. I just wanted her to be unique. But as for knowing about Romani things, it's all about research. I love to research things, so I can have the story be at least reasonably authentic.

Dakidaj and phuridaj which I had assumed and can half confirm mean father and mother respectively.

389696

'Daj' (Prounounced a little like "dye" with a hint of the "j as H sound" at the end) means mother. Dakidaj and Phuridaj both mean grandmother but refer to different relations, one the mother of your mother and the other the mother of your father.

390607

Oh, okay. I could find Phuridaj but it wasn't the best explanation, just old mother which could mean grandmother or just mother if she's old in my mind. Pronunciation is the easy part, I've dabbled in enough languages to know how most words should sound, definitions are a touch harder when you have no knowledge of the language at all.

I found a lot of good resources including a series of videos on Romani phrases and grammar.

Very nice. You've added depth to two of the most interesting antagonists in the show. The language was smooth and the emotions felt genuine.

Thank you. Lately I've been intent on making these two more visible.

Making Trixie Romany is a very nice touch. Too bad my Romany vocabulary is limited to socro-bori. Don't think I'd make a good first impression. :facehoof:

Knowing anything is half the battle. Respect and understanding will go far. And mean Gilda will not smash your face in for disrespecting her gal.

You made more of the ship, Oh god it's awesome :ajsmug::pinkiehappy:. Please say you'll do more of them:duck::fluttershysad:, it's the only true ship of trixie and glida. So keep up the good work.:moustache::moustache::moustache::trollestia:

I have one more story planned that includes them and may use them in a story much later on. I really do like them.

I have to say I'm not particularly seeing Trixie as a Romani. She just strikes me as the wandering magician/sorcerer who let her natural talent go to her head when she kept meeting impressed and cheering crowds. I actually envisioned her as being from Canterlot initially.

As I said, it was inspired by another story that took that tack. I thought it sounded both plausible and unique. It gives her some built-in backstory and nice flourishes.

And I gave some justification, after the fact of course. Mostly it was her showy caravan ant tricky showmare nature. Very Romani, as far as classical depictions go. It's just me, though. you're free to disagree ^.^

Hehe. Thank you very much. Glad you liked it.

So much accurate Romani stuff! I love it! :pinkiehappy:

Research is extremely important to me. I would prefer to not look like an idiot :pinkiehappy:
