I'm very confused

I'm confused about what the story is about :rainbowhuh:

My thoughts on school. It's intended to teach you things, but most of what I've ever learned has been because I sought it out myself, so school really ends up being a place to keep children until you can call them adults.

4208591 Yeh, that's me with IT. I get taught a few things, and then I learn about 2x more in a few days at home.

And homework. Half the stuff is useless. It just cuts into your free time. I mean, I had to do word searches and crosswords in my first school, completely useless.

BTW: You planning on ever writing a story with no trees?

I've gone for twenty-something stories with pictures of trees, don't really see a reason to stop now.

Ah yes, the fine educational value of a word search...

First WTG entry I'm giving my input on.
Hello, this is Goldymarg ~

I dunno, it really didn't seem like this story had any clear direction going for it while I was reading it. After reading the comments, I can understand where you're coming from as far as what this little drabble is about, but the fact that I wasn't able to figure that out on my own is a little off-putting. Perhaps I could chalk it up to my own incompetence, I dunno, but my experience here should be at least be considered too. Other than that, it was rather well-written :ajsleepy:

An intentional choice, since stories this short don't always need a traditional narrative but can just make their statement and be done. I didn't really expect this story to resonate with many people, either, so if it doesn't speak to you then it's no failing of yours nor any big loss. You picked a weird one to take a look at; pretty much any of my other WTG entries is more "normal". I'm also not sure I managed to touch on Apple Bloom's voice at all -- I feel like I'm really bad at all the CMC, save for Sweetie Belle when she's interacting with her sister -- but it's good to know it reads well, at least.

So, this fanfiction is just Applebloom's thoughts while learning to mix potions with Twilight and then Zecora, to show how she learns it?
Did I got that right? Or did I miss some meaning or message behind it?

It's the third part -- where Apple Bloom (and the rest of the class, sans Twist) basically ignores Cheerilee -- that gives the other two some context. The baseline education is barely even on her radar, while she's completely invested in learning more about the thing she's really interested in. Whatever she'd find out about potioneering in school would never be adequate. The statement is about the worth of broad and shallow schooling to individuals with a deep and narrow interest, which begs the question about just how the hell basic schooling works in a society where everyone has one big focus that their life revolves around.

Very interesting, I really didn't got that. I shouldn't have read it so late, I guess.
Anyway, interesting take! Really reminds on the school system critique from the episode.

Your blogpost which brought me back here explained this story:

I initially saw 2 disjointed stories about AppleBloom learning. Now, I understand that this is about strengths a weaknesses of learning.

Oh dang, this actually works really, really once you know what you're looking for. Nicely done. :D

An interesting take on things. I saw it less as perhaps a strike against formal education, and more a view on how children see school. Applebloom at times felt older than her true age but this was still an interesting and nicely done piece.
