Although Flash Sentry is overjoyed to be engaged to Princess Twilight Sparkle, Celestia withholds her blessing until she can interview the couple. At the interview, Flash is even more surprised than Celestia to find that something is indeed terribly wrong. This revelation leaves him questioning whether he ever really knew either princess.

Can you make FS a good character? Yes, as long as you have bad things happen to him. You can't just have him be slice of life like anypony else in the show, but gosh darn you gave him normal feelings and a dramatic plot and both are paying off wonderfully. You even managed to meld momlestia and (not quite tyrant) meanlestia.

I think it was an elaborate test. 1. It is not in Twilight's character to cheat or sleep around. 2 there is no way with how seriously Twilight takes her responsibilities to consider that option. 3. Celestia's proposed punishment seems extremely aimed at punishing Twilight and letting Flash keep his "honor" which means Celestia was seeing if Flash would continue to love a pony who had both cheated and been demoted. 4. I have a sneaking suspicion that since the writer mentioned Sombra and his "Door of Fear" when Flash "left" the room to give them privacy, the door activated not to project Flash's personal fears, but to create the scene we just saw. 5. I would understand completely if Flash grew angry after this test. 6. If this post contains too many spoilers, the writer is encouraged to delete this post.

You certainly have some interesting theories.
This story feels all timey wimey. So.......I think Twilight really is pregnant and I blame Dr. Hooves. See after Flash proposes Twilight starts traveling with Dr. Hooves. They could have traveled together for a really long time since Twilight is immortal and wouldn't really age. They developed feelings for each other even possibly married thus Twilight is pregnant. When she returned to the time she left her and Flash were about to meet with Princess Celestia so Twilight didn't have any time to explain what had happened.

How long were we standing outside? This fic has me on the edge of my seat.
While that would certainly send this fic down a dark and "interesting" route, I can't quite imagine Twilight cheating on Flash and sleeping around. As such, I am inclined to believe this is "probably" some sort of a test, however it is being brought around (an illusion of some sort perhaps, as I can't quite imagine Twilight playing along with this charade).
One thing I am very interested in, however, is - what consequences is Celestia going to face after all is said and done? Because by no reasonable measure does she have the right to be putting Flash (and Twilight) through all this crap, and a mere apology isn't going to cut it. The very least she deserves is a hoof to the eye and to lose Twilight's trust and respect for all of foreseeable future. Indeed, the price Celestia is going to have to pay (and it better be real and bite deep) for all that is happening is probably the biggest question I want to see answered at this point.

), though it does seem like you have to make a choice between Twilight being unfaithful ('Twilight is really pregnant' theory), or Celestia being cruel ('Celestia is testing Flash' theory).
In any case, somepony is going to have to deal with consequences.

Well my heart just sank. I feel that despite not being particularly gory you manged to make the grounding suitably horrifying. Good writing even I am saddened that the likely hood of this being a test becomes less and less likely. I can't help but imagine how many ponies are now wrongly disappointed in flash. If anyone needed a hug it's this pony.

I've only feeled this feels before at the end of a story, when someone's died. And this is just the new guy. I really wish you didn't make me care about twilight's parents and boy shining is going to be devastated one of his subordinates did this.

As he's having the dream after his... sentence... has begun its a "what if things had gone differently" kinda dream.

fu.. uh.. test.. how are the other characters, who know Flash is innocent/not that kinda guy, going to react?Thinking about it, Twilight's actions all seemed aggressive/unpatient/unwanting. She almost never cut slack for Flash, and she would be bored around him. That foreshadowed the story, but in a hidden way.

4306680 Actually it is very easy. Just make a list of the qualities you hate about the person and just repeat them over and over, once you repeat them enough and don't think about why you love them, the love dies. I haven't experience this, but I have seen it in my life.
Those transitions were pretty neato, really made it feel like he was going in and out of dreams. And I just got a really nervous why this is called decade...
It's pretty interesting seeing the timeline of <incident puts character in prison> -> <character stews in prison> while <everypony else freaks out in their own way> from only the perspective of the guy in prison. We've already seen his minds' guess/somone else's vision of show sanguine and fluttershy would react, so shining armors and her parents reactions are going to make me pull my hair out. Cadance is just going to keel over. Dead. RIP Cadance.

So, what, Celestia did some stupidly invasive memory spell that, because reasons, accidentally sends him into this hyper nightmare? If it wasn't so damn evocative and other fancy words for "well written", I'd have just dropped this story.

One of my favorite writers was commenting on the suggestions he would get from fans, along the lines of "Here's my super-awesome idea for a story! You write it and we'll split the profits 50/50..." and he pointed out that a mediocre writer can take the best plot idea and write a mediocre story with it, but a good writer can take a horrible plot idea and still write an amazing story.
So I'm going to take this as my best compliment ever.
Whichever of the cheesy plot devices I've chosen (but not yet revealed... *Hap twists his mustache evilly*), I hope the story continues to entertain.
This story intrigues me more and more. There are too many holes (not plot) that keep me guessing. I almost feel like this is the Flash Sentry version of Asylum. Thinking back, there were a few anomalies back in the first and second chapters that make me suspicious (unless it was a graphics/editing error at the beginning plus that odd fall at the end). That line about being a prisoner makes me think of the old TV show The Prisoner with its trippy redirection and resolution. Anyways, enough rambling; good story, following, favorited, etc. For all I know Flash is in a coma and this is actually a nightmare within a nightmare. Like when Fry 'died' in Futurama.
Not even a story featured on Equestria Daily can get a great rating as long as it has Flash Sentry.

Wow. Congrats on making me feel like shit for the first time ever while reading a story. Im a heartless basterd when it comes to sad stuff but this is just.... I cant even explain it now.. Also, i personally think that the title refers to that he spends a decade in that prison, but that could just be me and my stupid 17 year old brain. Please update this quickly, or im gonna need an overdose of fluttershy. And if this is indeed a test, im VERY curious to how flash will react.
