Tales in Stone is a compilation of short stories from the Stories in Stone universe. This is a open collection and any one who wishes to write a short story in the SiS verse is more than welcome to do so.

Primarily I would like the stories will focus on the backgrounds behind one of the countless statues in the Canterlot Royal Gardens. While primarily considered a prison, this has not always been the case and the Garden could contain nearly anything.

That is not to say it is required that a submitted story be about the Garden. Other figures in the SiS verse could be written for this.

I will be adding short stories of my own from time to time as well. Things that fit into the SiS continuity , but do not have a place in the series itself. This seems to be what goes here the most.

This is a compilation of a rather long story that starts with Stories in Stone, Luna's Royal Guard, and continues in SiS, Memories of Twilight, and SiS, Lost Empire.

Please have a look at the first two at least before checking this collection out as you may become a bit lost with some of the content.

Indeed, I am impressed. I'm curious who the pony was that first carved the home into the tree. It seems he was responsible for creating the Timberwolves too. It sounds a little bit like Sombra, what with the references to crystals, but that's tangential at best.

TDR

3944439 No basically the reference to crystal's was brought up a while back . The second rise of Ponyville was when it was restored to become a mining town for the crystal mines under Canterlot. The pony that made the timberwolves was pretty much a druid..... and this sort of ties into LE

I liked this I can't wait for more;)

An interesting take on events of stories in stone. I would have liked to see Blue blood wiped out as he came in as a waste of space, But you make a good argument and are true to all characters. A good read and I hope for more.

Thank you. Your response is much appreciated.I also have to give TDR thanks as well. He allowed this to happen. So this is his work as much as mine.

For all Celestia's desire for peace, she is decidedly stupid sometimes. She should understand that Jer'rahd and the others are relics of the distant past whose place in the present is less than solid, and who have more regard for Luna than Celestia. She really ought to be content that he has not simply acted already and really ought to chastise Blueblood and point out to him that the pony in question is far older and more savage than him and would be more than willing to follow through on that threat.

Also, I don't think Celestia realizes that she might not be able to stop him herself short of total obliteration and if she believes what she claims, the harm that would cause to others is simply not worth it. It is unlikely that the Elements of harmony could be used since the current bearers are not likely to be of one mind about him and Luna probably would not side with Celestia.

P.S.
Jer'rahd and his companions also know how to kill gods... That alone should be incentive enough not to aggrandise them.

TDR

4643751 It's not stupidity, it's complacency. Celestia had things a certain way for a thousand years. Luna's return threw a wrench into that , but she was willing to adjust for her sister some. Then her sisters unruly friends showed up unannounced and threw the whole thing out the window.

Most of the general population have no idea who Jer'rahd and the others are at all. Even the Guards only have the barest of hints. Blue Blood knew due to Scarlet, but he's an opportunist, he also thinks Jer may have something to do with the 'warning' he received , but he has no proof of that. Complaining to Celestia got him out of his mane so to speak.

As for the mane 6? Well....

All of them like Bleu and Velkorn [despite Spike's complaints about Bleu.]

Pinkie Pie likes everyone.

Celestia and Twilight are a little Leery of Starfall as they both know she's as dangerous as Jer when she's mad and hides a rather short temper as well, though she has calmed considerably due to Peach Blossom and Rainbow Dash.

Most of them are Leery of Rhede, though since he married that wariness has diminished some. Those in the know still know he had an entire race nearly wiped out as pay back for the death of two individuals, despite their connections to him there is no one even among the beasts who didn't see this as extreme. Even without an army he managed to start a war. His current job is just as much to use his skills as it is to keep an eye on him. Rarity and Spike are the only one who seem to have no issue with him.

Applejack and Luna are the only ones who don't have any issues with Jer'rahd. Fluttershy and Spike are terrified of him, which is odd because he's a little fearful of Fluttershy after hearing what she did from Bleu. Twilight and Celestia both find themselves butting heads with him constantly. Dash is still pissed at him for his telling her she wasn't suited to bear loyalty, Rarity thinks he's a brute. And even Pinkie thinks he's a grump at times. All of them have noticed he's calmed considerably since the adoption of the four foals, and although he still has his moments it only takes one of the younger children or Luna showing up to stop him in his tracks. He's still paranoid that he might lose Luna some how so he's trying his best not to get her angry at him with middling success as she's getting annoyed that he's trying not to annoy her.

Nothings quite cut and dry. Also Jer'rahd is a god thanks to the books though like the rest that information is not common knowledge.

4643997
Still, I think Celestia needs to quit being complacent and realize the playing field has changed and that she can't be the sole arbiter of things anymore.

Nothings quite cut and dry. Also Jer'rahd is a god thanks to the books though like the rest that information is not common knowledge.

I guess, then, at some level he is not her subject and while she might be justified confronting him, it would be unwise.

TDR

4644094 in a straight up fight Current Celestia versus current Jer'rahd would be a win for Celestia. Jer's good but he doesn't have the power to handle her.

That said, it won't come to that but the why won't get brought up until another chapter or 8.

4644348
As you wish, but I think such an outcome would depend on her retaining a measure of sanity and restraint. Going all out would leave her open to an attack, should he remain relatively calm and cool headed.

In any case, she'd have to be careful, lest she attract Luna's notice and her ire. Nevermind that any of their enemies would probably love to make use of such a convenient division among them.

man now i have an idea for a story about an a pony with i Soul Jar for a heart that regenrates her body, basically an artifical god, but she's slowly losing her mind

4643751

Only Jer'rahd and Starfall has that Capacity and that only due to their special weapons. Take those away and their fucked.

TDR

4810846 not entirely true. Velkorn has also killed a god and given Jer'rahd's current status he doesn't need the weapon, if he uses his bare hooves he can as well. Gods in SiS are like Fred Perry's were creatures. only 3 things can kill them. Starmetal, other gods, and the loss of their god hood.

The latter can be done in a number of ways, the most common is they pass their powers onto another. Though there is a spell that will temporarily subdue the power enough for them to be mortal.

As a side note Gods made by the books cannot pass on their powers. If they willingly give them up they die.

Control of the sun and moon do not make the recipients gods, it does however in crease their power to DBZ levels but all other stipulations apply to the base creatue. IE if Twilight had been stabbed by a normal weapon when she held the power of the moon she would still die.

Starmetal works by negating magic including the magic that makes a god a god so that is why the weapons can work on them.

4811112

Opps, I forgot about Velkorn, My bad. :facehoof:
I just remembered .Strange yellow beam was used.

TDR

4811134 That is one mare you don't want to forget about......

4811146

She's gonna find me and kick my ass. isn't she? :derpytongue2:

TDR

4811168 Does the Narwhal bacon at midnight?

4811112
Insisting that what makes them "gods" is just different magic that can be so easily subdued seems kinda tacky, man. Why should a spell of Type 1 magic simply allow you to easily subdue or disconnect someone from Type 2 magic? Just saying. It seems to me that to make it so easy devalues the impact of this whole "god" thing to the point of not being worth mentioning.

The way you describe the powers granted by the books seems to suggest that they are really making anyone god's really, just granting them temporary powers in excess of what most creature's have available to them.

So are Celestia and Luna gods or just in control of said celestial bodies? If the former, did they end up in control of them (sun, moon) due to their godhood or for some other reason?

TDR

4811477 Gods are the pinnacles of their race, even without magic they can out fly and out preform all but the paragons of their races. Starmetal is actually very rare. And it was made rarer by Celestia and Jer'rahd destroying large quantities of it . The dragons horded it and sought it out every where The diamond dog pup that could call meteors was the reason the dragons had so much of it and with his death his power has not come up again and the mineral has become rare once more. the Crystal empire has the largest stockpile of it and most of that was used on the starmetal "changeling detectors' and there are only a few of those.

The gods made by the books are more Demi gods than anything else, true gods are still more powerful, but to a mortal the distinction is almost non existent.

The sun and moon are tied to mega spells created by the first starswirl the bearded. They are strong enough to almost be non material artifacts, though they have developed a strong sense of self preservation and as such if any one kills or defeats the holder of the spells they will go to what they see as the stronger individual in order to remain 'alive' it is unknown what would happen if the spells were destroyed, Troph and the first gods likely know though no one has asked them.

Celestia and Luna wound up with the spells because they defeated the three [Discord's children' that had killed the former wielder of the spells. The spells then moved to them

4811579
I see. Still, you didn't specify whether Celestia and Luna are gods or not. I'm guessing they might be if they dealt with the these "Discord's children" you speak of. Of course, based on Luna's involvement with the books, maybe not, so any chance of clarification?

From your description I'd say those spells are artifacts. Not almost, given that having a sense of self preservation sounds like self-awareness and possibly borderline sentience to men.

TDR

I did specify the pair were the gods of pony kind. Luna kinda has a double stack of godly ness though the natural god hoodsuperseeds the book granted one, however if she ever gives up her alicorn state she would still be the book god though she would be a pegasus rather than a alicorn.

4812422

So the Pony "Gods" meaning Luna and Celestia are essentially elevated pones?

TDR

4881295 As are the other natural gods in the series Like Fred and Forge Scale and Spike.

Basicly the gods are stronger, faster, than normal members of their race [ though with some skills like flying if they don't practice they won't get better, If Celestia practiced her flying more she would fly better than a wounded watermelon and she flys better than any one else at her skill level, which isn't saying much.]

The gods are immortal, nearly invulnerable and each of them has an extra ability that the rest of their race doesn't granted by their godhood.

Hence Fred's ability to use lightning , Luna's Dream Walking and Spikes ability to find any information he wants, and the young diamond dogs ability to pull down meteors.

Celestia's ability was fire based so all she got was a boost to the ability she had as a mortal..

The sun and the moon's control are just spells that grant a bit more generic power along with their duty. They don't grant god hood themselves.

Book gods only get one of 6 powersets, every time, as explained in earlier chapters of MoT.

Write a couple more of these and you'll need the sad tag too. :fluttershysad:

TDR

5039087 I thought i had that. All of these tend to wind up sad.Hmm maybe i should be worried that Precious is about a dog......

As always good work! Couldn't have done better myself!

It's always nice to see that it's not just the main Heroes who can do heroic achievements even if they do so unintentionally

Precious is about a dog?.... I'm a little worried now , it's always the dogs that hit right in the feels

Whoa! I really enjoyed this side story plus I like fics that are letter....types.....based....formatted...?
Will there be anything like this in the future? Or at least about Crystal and Amanno?

TDR

5771567 I never really did much with Jer'rahd's parents. This idea kinda sprung into my head in response to that thought to be perfectly honest the pair of them were just normal ponies. Probably the only 'normal' ponies that have ever been in Jer'rahd's life. Granted this also told how Grandpa Kaisur knew Maw Pelt

That silly tree...
Always making my eyes leak...
...
:fluttercry:

If ever a tree needed hugs... Purple alicorn wing hugs...

This is something I have been looking forward to after parts were revealed in the stories. I can't wait to see how this goes between them and see where Jer'rahd gets some of his traits.

So THAT'S where Jer gets his trademark snark from.

TDR

5870153 I know i'm doing things right when i write a good story for a tree.

5871541 There is going to be a part two and maybe a part three. There were several set points Bleu and Celestia talked about.
5871948

5877602 Yep it was from Granny, not the guys who trained him.

Hmmm so when do you plan on writing the chapter where Krisis starts hiding Vermillion around the dragon camp?!? O,0 I know I read that somewhere I didn't dream it!!

Who is gonna write about the noodle incident?:rainbowderp:

TDR

6055759 Hehehe I have a plan in mind for that already. epilogue at the end of LE

I was going to ask about the noodle incident as well since it is referenced so many times in LE

This one was like a good Rod Serling "Twilight Zone" episode. Can we assume Tin Snip posthumously received the Equestrian Medal Of Honor award?

"'Valor Above and Beyond the Call of Duty'--simple words to describe the indescribable: that sudden urge for a soldier to take an action knowing that he or she may very well die, but by doing so, their sacrifice might save countless lives, either their comrades or non-combatants. Most MoH recipients don't live to ever tell us 'why' they did it--and those who do live are still often unable to ever express it in words. For those who get to see it happening, however, they often describe the recipients' actions as though they were ... possessed ... and perhaps ... guided. The truth is, we may never know where such courage comes from ... for maybe the answer lies ... somewhere in those unfathomable reaches ... of the Twilight Zone.:twilightoops:"

oh...so that explains how Forgescale was defeated...Krisis realized the dragon god was actually quite a clever pony.:rainbowlaugh:

IF it was possible to possible to downvote a single chapter without downvoting the entire thing I'd do so.. Most disaappointing chapter of entire series

TDR

7286457 Sorry , but the whole noodle incident was a running joke for so long , nothing i ever wrote would compare to what every one thought it was.

A cop out for sure but one that amused me

Oh my god he actually wrote it.
Oh wait.
Heh.

[Amendium note 16]

"WHAT--!? You made a report about the 'Noodle Incident'!!!??? That's like revealing the story behind the 'Tree Sap Incident' about how it almost--oh--uh-nevermind."

"Good, Best to keep that shit CLASSIFIED!! But if anything, you've underrated the Potential Disaster if that info ever got out..."

Statement by Nick Fury--Chief of [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] [REDACTED] Agency.

I havent read the new chapter yet because i am at work, but I have been waiting for this day for years now.

...... I don't know what I was expecting..... I should have known better.
