Sleep? who needs sleep? Lucky Dreams has a new story, thats more important right now.
Edit:
Ok wow this is awesome. I can say now that you are probably my favorite author on this site. The story reminds me a bit of Apotheosis by Daetrin. (which coincidently happens to be my favorite long fic.) So if this ends up being better than that, then you will have written my favorite one shot AND long fic. You. Are. Awesome.
this is going to be epic! it's nothing less than what i expect from you.
>>477524 First again! As a reward, you win a Rainbow Dash. Treat her nicely (cloud sold separately I'm afraid) ![]()
>>477532 I freaking love that song! ![]()
... You know what? I'm gonna confiscate Rainbow Dash from MclarenMP4-27. She belongs to you now ![]()
>>477749 I hope it doesn't dissapoint, although all means, don't feel obliged to like it -- it's very different from my last one!
>>477911 Nah man, you've got me all wrong: I've been scrambling around trying to find a replacement prize so that everypony goes home happy. Have a Fluttershy! I'll even throw in the cloud this time ![]()
(Careful not to wake her up. She's kind of cranky at the moment on account of being given away as a prize...)
Oh sweet Crom on his throne, this is awesome!
You must be a proffessional author of children's literature, why are you slumming at FIMfiction?
Quote:
"Scootaloo must confront her fears and sail to the land where ponies' dreams are made..."
I absolutely
fics with mystic/epic/fantastic/etc... places/creatures/gods/etc...! ![]()

OK, you are officially awesome. That was such a huge leap from what you let me read... I don't even know. Good work, seriously.
At first, I was like "It has potential, so I'll be supportive." Now I'm about to run around to every brony community I know and promote this story.
Of course that's not to say it's perfect. Scootaloo completely forgot about the CMC's until she dreamed about them? And not even a comment on the fact that she'd been so stressed out she forgot her own best friends? And, with the CMC's, her parents, Rainbow, the amazing power of an open book, and a dream's faceless monster to contend with, it's getting a bit cluttered. That's probably why it feels like an epic. Still, I have no doubt that you can handle it.
The only typo I found is a Sorry," at the beginning of a paragraph, that needs an opening mark.
Thanks for the great read! Of course, I'll be here to help pre-read again if you want me to. Good luck!
>>478319 As it happens, today's Astronomy Picture of the Day isn't too far off what I had in mind. Apart from the massive radio dishes, that is. Somehow, I doubt they have those in Equestria...
>>478586 'Loving this beyond belief.' What a lovely comment! Unfortunately, I can't really promise the next chapter within the next two or three weeks for one reason and another (I'm gonna write a blog post about it)
. On the other hoof, I have every intention of seeing this through to the end -- I'm not going suddenly vanish halfway through (touch wood), so hopefully that should make up for any delay ![]()
I think that if I have any talent at all, it's less for writing and more for being able to take on-board people's criticisms -- my last story was exactly the same (it took three tries to get it onto EQD. I went over that thing so much that even after a month I still can't bear to even look at it).
I definitely agree with you with what you say about the CMC's. The problem I had, though, was that when I tried to introduce them earlier in the story before her dream... well, I don't really need to explain since you saw it for yourself. It felt so forced, and it really distracted from the relationship between Scootaloo and Rainbow Dash. Whilst the solution I have now probably isn't ideal, at the same time, I still think it works (or well enough, at least). And after working on this story for about two months or so -- I mean, when you include the planning as well as the writing -- I think it was time to finally get this story out here, because it was starting to drive me a little mad not being happy enough with able to share it with anypony ![]()
As for it possibly getting a little cluttered, it's something I'm very aware of (it's a constant problem in my writing, I think it's just the way my mind works
). But as long as I have pre-readers such as yourself to reign me in and to tell me when I'm adding in too much or whatever, I think, hopefully, it should be fine.
Thanks for the awesome comment!
Oh...my....GOSH!
That is AMAZING!Thank you so much for the site! ![]()
![]()
I wish i could see such a sky each night...but light pollution is why the sky can't be seen in all his splendor in many parts of earth... ![]()
If peope followed this simple list,we could have the oppurtnity to see such beautiful sky again, without needing to go to the middle of the desert.
This is such an awesome story!
I'm glad I got to read it, finally!
Can't wait for more, great work!
>>480517 I know right! One of the first things I do when I get up in the morning is check out that website. Some of the pictures on there are incredible! (Actually, you should probably watch out for that last one if you have epilepsy or something. But if not...)
>>482504 I'm feeling pretty overwhelmed by how much love this story has gotten -- so far, it seems like I've been getting the sort of response you really hope for but don't seriously expect (the e-mail I got from EQD put such a massive smile on my face)
. Thanks for favouriting it, and I hope the following chapters don't disappoint! When they finally come, I mean. Don't expect anything for the next two or three weeks or so.
>>482709 You bet I'm interested! And I have been ever since I was little. Before this story took over, I spent a day or two planning another one in which Sweetie Belle has wild adventures in a spaceship... I mean, it wouldn't have worked for reasons so obvious that I'm embarrassed I gave it even a moments consideration
. But whatever. It's always nice to meet another astronomy fan, especially one who gets the importance of darker skies ![]()
>>482752 Not quite yet- they wanted me to go over my punctuation and stuff first. But they also used the words 'brilliant and engaging'. I'm still grinning like a madpony just thinking about it ![]()
>>484532 If you need an editor/pre-reader with attention to detail like that... try Vimbert... I don't know how his list is ATM but he's really good. (He edits for Shortskirtsandexplosions)
>>484543 Patience my young Padawan
Seriously though, I'm glad it didn't disappoint!
>>484552 Thanks for the tip!
However I'm very happy with the pre-readers I've already got. If there's still any technical errors left, they must be very small. Or at least I hope so.
In actual fact, I've dealt with Vimbert before several months ago, and yes, he was extremely good! However he also didn't make it past the first two pages of my fic, which was actually the single best thing anypony's ever done for my writing since it seriously taught me the importance of having some sort of hook. Plus that story needed to be put out of it's misery. It wasn't just my first ever fanfic, but also the first thing I'd written for about a year and a half (I used to write all the time before I suddenly just stopped). I'm still cringing at the thought of that story ![]()
Well then, you should check this author ,because he has a fic called ''Among the Stars'' ,it's a fic in a big spaceship .He's too actually planning writting a sequel to it,you should check him out. ![]()
Too do you have a smartphone? You should check out the app ''Star Walk'' ,but it costs money...but it's a great app to observe the space,i bet you'll like it!
For the Sweetie Belle story... i dunno, could be fun!Well, you decide if you write or not!
And btw i don't know why but my schoolmates call me ''the especialist of Astronomy'' when something about the space is mentionned , i really don't know why,i couldn't compare myself to an Astronom lol ![]()
>>488564 >>488564 Say, that story actually looks like it could be pretty good! I guess that's another one to add to my reading list ![]()
I think I know the app you're on about; my friend has it, and it's just about the coolest thing ever... Unfortunately for me, my phone cost £10 and the interesting feature it has is a flashlight which doesn't even work. Egh ![]()
The Sweetie Belle story isn't, however I'm gonna do it as an original piece of fiction. I have high hopes for it!
'The specialist of Astronomy'. That's a pretty awesome title. Treasure it ![]()
>>490341 Somepony finally got it!! ![]()
This. Is. Awesome! I am watching you with all my internets! When do you think the next chapter will be up? This is the best pony- dream-sequence fanfic I've ever read! So cute how she brought a book! I guess Rainbow Dash's love of reading rubbed off on her! I love daring do's personality! It seems to fit the show perfectly, and her resemblance to RD is nicely down-played, yet it's still there if you look for it. Two thum- uh... Hooves up!
Not my usual cup of fanfic tea, but this is so good that it might as well not be fanfic. Except that it's even cooler as fanfic, because I really like your Rainbow Dash and Scootaloo, so it's like awesome with a side of cool.
I'll be following this!
Did the inspiration for this fic's title come from the Explosions in the Sky album "The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place"? I really like that band.
I must commend you on your delicious presentation. An eye-catching cover image and a really spiffy book-like chapter header: excellent stuff! It's little touches like these that make stories that much nicer to read.
And the story's pretty interesting too – I love how weird and mysterious it all is. Can't say much about it seeing as there's only chapter up right now, but I'm hooked and eager for new updates.
>>490863 Unfortunately, I think the next chapter is three weeks away, and that's at the very least (I'm gonna make a blog post about it later). But after that, I'm hoping to have a new chapter every two weeks, so hooves crossed.
'This is the best pony- dream-sequence fanfic I've ever read!' ![]()
>>490921 Hehe! I wish I could take more credit for it- as far as album titles go, 'The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place' is pretty brilliant. Also, I'm glad you're enjoying the story ![]()
>>491125 'It's like awesome with a side of cool.' I think that might be my favourite description anypony's ever given one of my stories ![]()
>>492474 Not just the title, but the whole feel of the story as well; I just can't get enough of this sort of music, I love it to bits! And thanks for picking up on the presentation and the cover and such- it makes me feel the time I spent doing it was time well spent.
I hope the rest of the story lives up to the first chapter ![]()
Oh look, a story worth tracking. Also, I love your characterization of Rainbow Dash.
>>495812 I really hope you enjoy what I've got coming up ![]()
>>502808 Yeah, I already listen to God is an Astronaut and 65 Days of Static, and they're both wonderful! However, I've never heard of If These Trees Could Talk- I'm listening to them right now, and I've gotta say, that was a pretty stellar recommendation. Thanks ![]()
I love the sense of wonder and adventure you've put into this. Have a watcher.
This'll be interesting to say the least. I look forward to where you'll be going with this.
First Sweetie's Mansion and now this. Next up; Applebloom's adventure in a place that shouldn't exist!
This was the first ever fan fiction I read of MLP, and I got to admit, it got me addicted to them xD So where's the update!? I've been for weeks! AHHHH ![]()
>>703571 It's coming bro, don't worry! It's just that I posted this then realised that the story I already had written was kind of... well, rubbish, to be frank. I've been doing other stuff in the meantime as I rethink this one. Shouldn't be too long now. Couple of weeks or something ![]()
... Also, this story got you into MLP fanfics? Sweet! ![]()
This was an amazing story! Profound and breathtaking; emotional and surreal. Amazing job. I absolutely love stories like this one.
This was one of the first chapters of MLP fanfiction I ever read, right after I became a brony and finished watching (what was available of) the show in April. For the longest time I couldn't remember where I had found it or what it was called, but the wonderful storyline and writing style stayed in my head. Today I was looking through EqD's Six-Star stories and recognized the awesome cover pic--I finally found it!
I'm so happy! Hope it's updated relatively soon (although I completely understand the obnoxious distractions of "real life"). Marvelous, memorable story so far.
although I completely understand the obnoxious distractions of "real life"
Ah-hah! Somepony who understands! ![]()
I just love getting comments on this story (doesn't happen much anymore, though not surprising with only one chapter
), and this one might be one of my favourite comments ever. I'm kind of delighted that it managed to stay in your head for so long!
And yeah, if all goes well, then I'm hoping it'll update by the end of August at the latest. I've got a few other stories to get out first, but when this one comes back, it's going to come back with a vengeance. I've got big plans for it.
>>943889 Well, that totally made my night. Thanks, LD! I'm glad you actually read it. I meant every word. And the more I think about it, I'm pretty sure this was literally the first fanfic I ever read... after My Little Dashie, maybe. Either way, it had a big hoof in my conversion to reading/writing fanfiction, which is now my life's primary source of joy and fun. So thank you thank you thank you!
"With a vengeance"? "Big plans"?
It's already worth the wait.
I found this story a few weeks back, before I made this account and loved it. It was one of three stories saved on my bookmarks bar that I would check on. I'm still as excited for the next chapter as I was weeks ago. ![]()
Can't wait!
Well the story is finally back up! Not sure why you needed a re write when it was fine before but all I can say is..... MOAR
Fluttershy and her rage demands it!
Holy shit! IT LIVES!!!!
it fakes life. it is the same story once more
Yes and no to both of those, although Medicshy's closer to the mark. It's pretty much the same chapter that was online before, but this time it does a much better job of setting up the rest of the story. The next update will be actual progress. I'm working on it as we speak ![]()
>>1791065 Quick! Grab the torches and the pitchforks ![]()
>>1791990 It's not too late!
Whoooooo!!!!! I've been waiting on this forever!! When is the next chapter coming out?
I'm glad I tracked this story a while ago. I really like how you've portrayed Daring Do, giving her more than just an RD recolor personality. Even though I know its stated in the story, I still get the feeling that this is still a dream. RD did mention the Daring Do book to Scootaloo before she fell asleep, ergo the appearance of Daring Do to assist her. Though if this is reality, it would be pretty bad ass if Daring Do was a real pegasus. Your description thus far has been very enjoyable, both of how the archway appeared, the new world Scoots has stepped into, and other things like Daring's and the star boat. Its even reminded me to make sure I do the same in my own story that I'm working on right now. Looking forward to more.
This is, in all seriousness, one of the best works of fanfiction I’ve ever read. The richness of your language is captivating; the sense of mystery, wonder and adventure your tone carries holds me in awe. The dream imagery is dazzling, creative, and visceral, and yet it never overwhelms me or becomes too much. You have my kudos as well for depicting a truly heartwarming relationship between Scoots and Dash. It’s nice to see someone giving the little filly a sort of adoration that’s deeper and more meaningful than the generic hero-worship that so many other writers ascribe to her. Your characterization of Daring Do is also very interesting; she’s intriguingly but not off-puttingly abrasive, which is a difficult combination to pull off. I can’t wait to see where else you’re going to go with this.
Also, points for taking inspiration from Explosions in the Sky. In fact, this whole fic feels a lot like a really good post-rock album.
Well, it's obviously a trap, right? The question is, is it the dream-boat that's a trap, or is it Daring Do? ![]()

I laughed pretty sharply at picturing RD opening that window, snow splattering in her face giving her a santa like beard and a puffy snow hat. Then shaking it off as she looked side to side for anyone within the blizzard of all things, that could possibly be around before she began singing. I really enjoyed immersing myself into this story again. This Rainbow Dash scene addition was by far the most awesome of additions. I slept so darn well after crashing at like 2am stopping after I reached the creation of the door with the snakey white-silvery lights that amassed from the nooks and crannies of the room to the wall.
I really really really really glad you kept with the original pretty well! The less telly-showy introduction was SO awesome! The whole not knowing and making it feel more ominous and unknown was the bestest change! You still have that whole "not sure if parents are or aren't safe" feel. Unlike the original.
The end and how she woke up was more exciting, you think you know it was someone that woke her up, but still she could of been in tons of pain because she could of been pulled by claws or gripped in the jaws of some beast. Course I could be remembering the new scene wrong, meant to type this up two days ago lol some friends make it hard to find time for fics, heaven forbid I review one! ^^;
Reducing the CMC fight and turning it into another dream was interesting. I loved the original's description of what anxiety mixed with all those hurtful pangs of guilt and regrets feel like. Only one who experienced them can ever truly write about that retching feel in ones pit. The new revised scene was pretty well done and more to the focus of Scootaloo and her ever powerfully growing fears that seems to be feeding the ever living tartaurus out of that beast. The new version, while it tones down a smidgen on the depressive side, I mean damn even I was starting to feel the gut-wrenching feels there a sec, it flowed so much better. Less flashbacky and more "SCOOTS YOU'RE STILL DREAMING! WAKE UP!" which was awesome.
I am interested in what you're going to do with that White Wolf with the green eyes and Daring. I *really* enjoyed this version! Rainbow Dash got more of how I love to imagine her, opens up to those she cares and trusts most like Fluttershy, despite hating Flutters' lack of confidence they are practically inseparable, and ended up having some touching moments we didn't get in the original. It sure gave that scene with Scootaloo singing Hush Now to herself, a lot more feels.
The only thing I have to argue is that... RAINBOW DASH DOES NOT HAVE A SCRATCHY VOICE! She doesn't have the smoothest of voices but it's enough to make the average pony swoon a bit.
Lastly, now that it is being worked on, and given the changes and how well the addition of a couple things I mentioned with Daring, I was finally able to throw a favorite onto this one! LOVE THIS AWESOME STORY! /6* (that reminds me I need to go through that favorites and remove a few fics I left in there before I discovered read later lol;; thankfully it's only a few!)
>>1793620 Next few weeks. I'm working on it right now ![]()
Even though I know its stated in the story, I still get the feeling that this is still a dream.
I'm glad you said that. That's the effect I was trying to achieve, and it sounds like I managed it!
And thanks very much for the lovely comment
. Daring Do, or at least my interpretation of her, is really fun to write about (I don't usually bother with snarky characters so it's a nice change of pace for me). That said, her character arc was one of the main reasons this fic's taken so long -- whether or not this story works sinks or swims depending on how people react to what I have planned for her... that's to say, lot's of twists and turns right up until the very end. For the time being, I'll say this: a few people have given me theories about what's going on with her, but so far none of them have even been close to being right.
Also, good luck with your own story!
>>1802750 What a fantastic comment to get! And the timing of it couldn't possibly have been better (without getting too much into it, I was having a thoroughly lousy night on Saturday, but then your comment came along and made everything feel a little brighter).
Also, thanks for saying that the story feels like a good post-rock album, I appreciate that ![]()
>>1808460 Good questions!
>>1808989 I can't tell you how much I love getting huge comments like this one!
Regarding the snow, that was probably my favourite alteration as well... and regarding everything else you mentioned, well, I suddenly feel that the revision was definitely the right thing to do. And that someone remembered the original well enough to actually point out what exactly was changed makes me feel pretty good about myself. So thanks for that. After all the support you've given in the past few months in my blog posts and everything, I'm so glad that you enjoyed it!
I am interested in what you're going to do with that White Wolf with the green eyes and Daring.
The wolf's been a part of this fic from right near the very beginning and, without giving anything away, it's role is pretty big. It's also one of the reasons I rewrote the CMC dream sequence: originally, it would've come out of nowhere and had everypony scratching their heads, but not anymore. Not now that it's been set up properly. So watch this space!
I was finally able to throw a favorite onto this one!

For months I had waited and Waited for these chapters to come back so I can read them. Months waiting and waiting and you know what? IT WAS ALL WORTH IT!!!!
This was on my Read Later list, then when I went to read it, it wasn't there anymore, but I was still intrigued by the blurb (plus the picture looked really cool). Anyway, well worth the wait, very different to anything I've read before!
The update was a lie. ![]()
But I might as well take this opportunity to say how much I enjoyed the first two chapters.
You've painted an incredibly intriguing world (that's beautifully described, by the way) which has me eager to find out what the heck is going on and what happens next.
What is this? A story emerging from the deepest places of my favorites stories?
Really glad to see this continued!
Wait, why didn't I knew there was a 2nd chapter already?! In fact, the false update helped me!
>>2308524 Sorry bro. 'Chapter 2' is simply the second half of the original chapter 1 -- I gave the story a little facelift back in December and split it in half ![]()
But on the bright side, actual updates start again this Friday. That's how this false update happened in the first place! Well, that and plain carelessness ![]()
>>2308142 Thanks man! ![]()
That moment you get when you see a notification of something you've been genuinely excited for popping up as 'updated'...
....then seeing it has 0 words and protected by a password. ![]()
Honest mistake on your part I suppose ![]()
And no worries, the excitement followed by immense soul crushing disappointment all occurred in a single instant. ![]()

<-- and that's essentially how it all went in 0.2 seconds.
>>2308642 If you loved the original, then please I urge you to read the remastered version. It will BLOW you away at how much more chills, sense, cuteness, and awesomeness the redone is over the original. I should know, I did a decently detailed review on the two versions! xD
It'll really set you up for when the new chapters come out. New scene was added and others fixed up to be more coherent. This chapter remake is practically brand new and in every way imaginable better than the first telling! (no exaggerating or bias either, I was super worried it was going to change the reasons why I fell in love with it, and it really made me fall in love all over again!)
>>2311498 It really is ok, Lucky. I have seen that happen to a couple others. Granted those weren't stories I was following with much deep-seated interest; only 4 titles currently that I give priority to.
Take your time and properly review each chapter and make sure it follows up just right with the next one. I don't mind waiting till S4 if it means reading new chapters with the level of mastery the remake version of the first chapter has.
Course, you know, hoping it'll not be that long ![]()
Course, I keep checking my gmail for Ballad once or thousandth a day, so you know, whenever you want to release it is fine too.
Wow....this is the kind of fic I have always wanted to read and I was getting kinda worried that no one would do it!!
I was prepared to it myself but then I found this and I love it!!
Instant favorite and followed!!![]()

This story earns my seal of approval. Go on, take it.
...
Ha! He's your problem now! No backsies!
It's here it's here it's here! At long last!
And it's as awesome as I hoped it would be. Gosh, and I thought my fic about dreams would be interesting, but you're blowing this whole "dreams are real" thing out of the water chapter by chapter. This is one of those stories I've been looking forward to since forever, and I hope the next chapter comes a bit sooner than this one! ![]()
This is a complex story... and seasickness is horrible ![]()
Can we get a chapter from Rainbow's perspective? ![]()
A while back I gave this a favorite. Now I have added a thumb to it. This is weird and wonderful. ![]()
You've got a wondrous imagination. I've always loved stories about dreams and dream-worlds, and this is one of the most creative I've yet found. Your powerful descriptive language really shone in this chapter; now I feel almost as seasick as Scoots, and just as sleepy. Even more impressive is the pacing: the way you take your time in revealing what's really going on, while dropping just enough hints to keep me intrigued. Fantastic stuff, as expected. Looking forward to the next update!
>>2340280 He's not a problem, he's adorable! ![]()
>>2340319 I'm really glad that you thought it was worth the wait! And yeah, the next chapter isn't gonna take so long -- my aim is to update this story once a week. I've already built up a small backlog of chapters, so I'm off to a good start with that ![]()
>>2340652 Aye!
>>2341119 I can neither confirm or deny that there will be a chapter written from Rainbow's perspective ![]()
>>2342454 Don't worry, they'll be some world-building!
>>2342592 I'm so glad that you enjoyed it and that it lived up to your expectations. It makes me feel that I'm doing something right! Here's hoping that I'll be able to keep it up in future chapters ![]()
Indeed. I had already reread the first 2 chapters when I wrote my 2nd comment, and I'm reading them for the third time now, because I dared not to show up yesterday as I promised! ![]()
There was one thing that catched my eye though. I'm pretty sure that I had noticed it last week and even before when I read this story for the first time :
Rainbow winked. “Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a cupcake in my eye.”
I looked this up on UD, and I was shocked to find that "Cross my heart, hope to die" means a promise. I mean, hope to die?
Oh, and some mistakes:
Rainbow Dash would already figured out what to do.in the 2nd Chapter.
"have"
There so many that after a few seconds they became impossible to count, ...also the 2nd Chapter.
"were"
It was midnight exactly, and her heart beat furiously, and Her body flooded with adrenaline.again the 2nd Chapter.
"her"
Also, you could say "and her heart beats furiously, while her body flooded with adrenaline" or "while she felt a rush of adrenaline (coursing) through her (whole) body". This is just for stylistic purposes.
It was scarcely big enough to hold a cartload of ponies, and in the centre of it stood the archway.in the 3rd Chapter.
"center" en français. ![]()
Perhaps if she hadn’t been able to her herself speak, then Scootaloo might have been able to convince herself that she wasn’t in the slightest bit ill, and that it was all in her head.in the 4th Chapter.
"hear"
This story's incredible, so it must be perfect! ![]()
This comment's tall, but it's not a wall! ![]()
