My heart virtually stopped. I could see in his eyes he wasn't lying.

I turned to the Draco-Knight behind me, "Janvier, do you have any headsets? We need to be able to talk with him without putting any of you in danger.", he nodded and pulled out 11 headsets. One for all of us.

"Dad!", I called along the path, "I'm coming up there to give you a headset, ok?"

"If you're sure.", he called back.

As I started walking, a hoof caught me and I turned to see Rhino, "Atom. You're only going up there to give him the headset. Right?"

"Sure.", I said.

Rhino wasn't convinced as I made my way down the path, keeping an eye out for any misplaced dirt that might be hiding another mine.

When I was ext to my Dad, I took special care not to disturb the dirt around his hoof. I put the headset on his ear, "So. You boys, gonna' try and get me out of this?"

"Yes sir.", Janvier said through the headset, "Sir, we just need you to stay absolutely stock still, don't move a single muscle. The slightest change in pressure could set it off."

Dad laughed a little, "No problem."

I smiled up at my dad from looking around his hoof to check if the booby trap had been booby trapped.

"Atom...", Rhino's voice came through the headset, "You got him the headset now get out of the danger zone."

"You can be quite easy to lie to sometimes Rhino.", I replied.

"Damn it Atom!", Dark said, "I know he's our dad, but you have to think of your safety here as well!"

"I've lost mum! I'm not going to lose dad too!", I shouted.

Dark went silent, seeing that the last thing I would do right now would be to back down.

"It's funny.", Dad said.

"I imagine standing on a mine would be.", I replied.

"I mean it funny how quickly a situation can change.", I gulped past the growing lump in my throat.

I changed the subject quickly, "So who else here, besides me, has explosives experience."

A small pause, "Only me.", Janvier said.

"Ok.", I sighed.

"Shadow, sir. What does it feel like, is it a plate, spike or a bunch of spikes?", Janvier asked.

"A bunch of spikes."

"Ok. Atom see if you can dig around the mine, see what we're dealing with."

"Without setting the damn thing off.", came Blue's voice.

"I would have thought that would be somewhat obvious Blue.", Zeph replied.

"Just making sure."

I chuckled slightly as I began to carefully excavate around my dad's hoof, slowly revealing the mine.

Once I got a good look at it, I slumped back.

"What is it Atom?", Janvier said.

"...It's a CR38.", I breathed.

Janvier's eyes widened, and he ran hoof through his mane.

Dark switched his headset off, "What's wrong?"

Janvier did the same before speaking, "A CR38 is bounding mine. It shoots an explosive 2 feet in the air before it explodes."

"Is there anything we can just put over it?", Blue asked, his on headset off.

"No. Those things can go through 3 inches of steel."

Everypony around him took in this information sullenly.

Fragment suddenly had a thought, "Safety! Anything explosive will have a safety!"

Janvier nodded and switched his headset on again, "Atom, look for the safety! There should be a tiny hole where you can replace the safety pin."

From where they were, the group saw as Atom lifted and began to carefully brush away more of the dirt.

They could also see when he visibly froze.

"Atom......?", Naga said.

No response came from the black pegasus.

Janvier swallowed deeply before asking, "They blocked the hole didn't they?"

A single nod from Atom.

A collective breath came simultaneously from the group as the harsh reality hit home.

"There must be another way.", Atom whispered, just audible through the headset.

"Atom-"

"There has to be!", he yelled.

Atom stood again and began marching toward the group, glaring hard at them, "We have to think of something! Why are you all just standing there?!", when he reached the group, Shadow looked back over his shoulder at them.

"Atom..."

He turned back to look at his father...

"Yes Dad? We're gonna think of something just stay still."

Shadow looked at Atom...it was in his eyes....

"It's gonna be ok..."

Atom's eyes widened as his father's hoof moved....

*Click, BOOM!*

The explosion created a dust cloud that obscured the sight from the group....Atom collapsed, his face wrought with despair.

Dark just stood, slack-jawed and his eyes welling up. The others of the group watched the 2 brothers' distraught cries carried across the eerily quiet path.

From behind the group of friends, the Mane 6 appeared, asking about the explosion.

Dash and AJ quickly noticed Dark and Atom, rushing to their sides to comfort them.

Soon, Atom's cries became soft, and he began to quake...with anger.

His breathing became sharp, and somewhere in the distance a war horn sounded, signalling the griffons' advance.

A wave of light washed over Atom, and his form was replaced by the demon that had saved Ponyville before, and killed Zephyr Tempest.

Applejack clung to the stallion, "No! Atom!", she shouted as his face turned into a snarl worthy of scaring away the Goddesses.

He broke out of her grasp and launched himself into the air, aiming for the sound of the horn.

Another, yellow aura settled over Dark, as he descended into Dark Storm mode. He stood and took off after his brother, quickly catching up.

[To all griffons: Cawtion. Slaughter commencing.]

The residents of Ponyville that had chosen to stand against the griffons were now lined up near the defensive wall around the town. Every collective head looked up as a *WHOOSH* sounded overhead and between them and the advancing griffons, a massive explosion created a crater as Atom and Dark slammed into the ground with the force of a meteor.

The brothers walked out of the dust cloud and the griffons halted.

"One final dance.", Dark said, "Let's end this war now."

"Agreed.", Atom replied.

The griffons held their weapons at the ready as Atom drew Breeze and the Colt, while Dark charged his hooves with enormous amounts of energy.

Without warning the 2 brothers charged the griffons, Atom felling 6 with a quick burst from the Colt, and Dark throwing 2 grenades into the mass, taking several more out of the fight.

Atom used his fully shrouded wings to help propel him over the front griffons and directly in the middle of the throng, where he swept Breeze around in a tight circle, taking the heads of 8 griffons.

The enemy was slow to react and another 20 had fallen by the time they began to retaliate against the inferno of rage that was Dark and Atom.

While they annihilated the griffons, the rest of the group appeared, seeing the scene in front of them in awe and worry.

"We have to help them!", Zephyr exclaimed.

"Even in those forms they won't be able to handle that many griffons.", Naga stated bluntly.

"I-I'm gonna stay here.", Rhino said, taking a step back.

Glare shot him a bemused expression, "You realize if they get past Atom and Dark, then they'll get past us and then kill Fluttershy, rig-"

Glare didn't get to finish before Rhino punched him solidly in the face, his mane red once more. Before anyone could say anything Rhino began a gallop straight for the griffons, Resing to quicken his pace.

The rest of the group followed, jumping at the throng of enemies.

Rhino reached the griffons first, jumping at the closest one and slamming his hooves into it's face and abdomen until it crumpled. Realizing they were being flanked, the griffons on the edge started to attack the rest of the group, while the ones closer to the middle fell to Dark and Atom.

Glare was next and launched himself at a griffon as it turned, hearing the crack of it's ribs break. He lifted his hoof upwards and threw the griffon into the ground with a thud that sounded like a gun went off.

Another griffon tackled Glare from behind, coming out of the roll on top and began clawing his forehooves as the unicorn covered up. Glare yelled out as the griffon's talons tore cuts in his hooves, and slammed a hoof on the ground, making a spire of metal shoot up from the ground, skewering the griffon through the head, and a small amount of blood, brain and bone splattering the pony bellow.

[XD Rule of three and alliteration in gore!]

A few feet away, Naga scowled as a griffon bore down on him. As it swung it's talons, he ducked back and charged forward again, colliding with the griffon and driving the wind from it's lungs. He spun, summoning his scythe and loping the griffon's head from it's shoulders. Before he could turn, a powerful punch sent him stumbling, his vision blurred.

Another clawed fist struck Naga's snout, he snarled and responded by tossing his head upward. His horn met with soft flesh and the griffon screeched as it tore through it's chest, collapsing a lung.

Closer to Dark and Atom, Janvier cut through the griffons like paper, using his dexterity, bare hooves and his MP7. He was making far more progress than the rest of the group in reaching the brothers, but he'd taken an deep gash to his right hindleg.

He stopped when he realized the griffons had him surrounded and in a circle. He braced himself. Without warning 2 griffons jumped forward, one to be quickly cut down with a burst from Janvier's weapon, and the other to receive a hoof to the beak and get stabbed with Janvier's horn through the esophagus.

A rip and a burning sensation confirmed that another griffon had snuck up from behind and delivered a slash of the claws to Janvier's flank.

He yelled out in pain, turned and headbutted the griffon, making it stumble backward where the unicorn dispatched it with the final bullets in his clip.

Frag...wait no...not Frag. Something he'd described as Ragnarok, his alter-ego, was busy tearing the wings from the griffons' backs. He jumped from griffon to griffon, his hooves aflame with his neon blue fire. A griffon tackled him from the side and Rag dropped from the air.

He rolled to lessen the impact and faced the griffon just as it cannoned into him again. This time he wrapped his hooves around the griffon in a bear hug and took control of the small flight, flipping the griffon to the bottom and slamming him into the ground.

A while away, Blue smirked as a small group of griffons advanced slowly.

[If I get this wrong Blue, just deal with it I forgot.]

Just as the griffons prepared to pounce, Blue stopped them in their tracks, flapping his wings furiously. A few moments later and the griffons were caught in the powerful vortex Blue had spun up. The pegasus charged his wings and started to fire Wing Waves into the tornado, creating "The Blender", and slicing the griffons to ribbons.

The sound of wings beating overhead reached Blue's ears, and he looked up to see Zeph going like the wind, [Pun definitely intended.] 2 griffons hot on his tail.

Zeph looked back over his shoulder, seeing the griffons. He barrel rolled out of the way as one shot forward, it's claws brushing past his throat by a hairs length.

The other caught up and Zeph turned into it, sending them both careering to the ground. Zeph realized that it would end badly to smash into the ground with this heavy beast, and slammed his head upwards into it's beak and twisted in the air, so the griffon was now under him.

The impact jarred his bones, but the griffon cushioned the force and Zeph picked himself up off the corpse and took to the skies again.

The main event, Dark and Atom went back to back taking out anything that came near them without so much as batting an eyelid.

3 griffons sprung simultaneously for Dark, talons outstretched and aiming for his throat. He sidestepped and 2 passed by, and the third was met by a solid wall of a punch, combined with a lightning charge, sending it crashing into the crowd that surrounded them.

Dark turned to the other two as they came at him, he twisted into one picking it up, flipping it onto it's back and throwing it to the ground. On reflex Dark kicked out his hindlegs feeling his hooves connect with the final griffon's beak. He back flipped onto the griffon's back and snapped his wings before delivering a blow to the back of it's head.

Meanwhile, a few meters away, Atom grinned. He grinned. A griffon swung for him and the stallion ducked under the blow, grabbing the griffon's arm, snapping it in two. He pulled the screaming griffon toward him, and rammed and elbow into its face, silencing it.

The Colt was long since out of ammo, and Atom stopped using Breeze after almost slashing Dark open with it in such close proximity. Another griffon dropped onto Atom's back and bit down in the back of his neck. He yelled out and reached behind him, yanking the griffon off and tearing a large chunk of flesh with it.

Atom snarled through the pain threw the griffon into the rest with enough force to send it through a brick wall.

Already, only a small group of griffons remained, the rest cut down and left for dead behind Atom's friends. When the final griffon was dead, they all took a moment to look at the carnage around them.

Dark's rage quelled, he reverted back to his normal form, panting hard.

"By the goddesses that was fun."

Everyone frowned and turned to see it was Atom who had spoken. His mane, tail and eyes were still jet black, showing him to still be in his demon form.

"Atom, you can get out of that form now.", Rhino said, his mane blue once more, "The griffons are all dead."

Atom smirked, "But none of you are."

Everyone's eyes widened as Atom drew Breeze, his eyes dilating into a crazy look.

He charged Rhino first, tackling the large unicorn and taking him off his hooves, before punching him across the snout, sending him crashing into a tree.

Naga attempted to curl his shadows around Atom's hooves to restrict him, but he took to the air before they could, and dove down again, dipping under Naga and grabbing him around the stomach.

Atom took them both soaring upward, then flipped around, spinning a tornado behind him. Naga struggled to escape, but couldn't before Atom piledrived him into Janvier.

Blue charged his wings, and fired off a few waves, only for them to be intercepted by a swish of Breeze. Atom turned to the blue pegasus as he blanched.

Atom blurred slamming into him and launching him into the air. When Blue landed, it few milliseconds for him to realize Atom had just bucked him across the battlefield, before he followed Rhino's fate and slammed into a tree.

Dark charged his hooves as Atom swung Breeze down, the lightning reflecting the blade and giving Dark an opportunity to slam his hooves into Atom's stomach, the shock throwing his brother away.

Atom recovered quickly and rushed forward once more, ducking under Dark's punch and flipping him over his back. Atom stomped on his throat and bucked him away.

A tan blur hit Atom from the side, and he wrapped his hooves around Zeph's neck, twisting him into the ground.

Glare and Frag jumped at Atom as he turned and grabbed both of them by their throats, slamming their heads together.

[New fight, new music.]

"Atom, stop!", a voice sounded, before an unseen force slammed into his gut and another hit him in the side.

Atom groaned as he stood again, and turned to the offender...

Applejack...

"How ironic.", Atom laughed, "My own wide is gonna try and stop me."

"I won't try. I will.", she retorted.

He smirked, "I doubt that.

"Well come at me 'n find out!", the mare shouted, settling into a fighting stance.

Atom shrugged, "As you wish...my dear.", he blurred and cannoned into AJ throwing her into the air, before she was pulled back down as Atom manipulated the wind.

She hit the ground hard, grunting as her hat was torn from her head. Before he could resume, Atom dodged to the side as a pillar of earth shot out of the ground.

AJ stood and slammed a hoof down, another pillar shooting up and missing Atom by a mere centimeter. He continued to dodge and weave past each pillar, until AJ slipped up leaving her open to his onslaught.

He charged forward, shoulder barging her and driving the wind from her lungs. He then puled her towards him and used the momentum to throw her into the ground.

She didn't falter however, and grabbed the dirt, twisting it around her hoof, solidifying into rock and turned, hooking Atom hard enough to send him reeling back. She curled the dirt around her other hoof and began to pummel Atom, leaving him no room to retaliate.

AJ noticed as she began to wear, and gave her self recovery room, by punching Atom with enough force to throw him across the battlefield where he impacted the tree with a grunt.

AJ stood panting as Atom pulled himself from crater he'd made.

"Tired are we?", his voice called out, "That actually hurt."

She didn't reply as the air around her shimmered, and Atom walked slowly and confidently toward her.

She tried to respond by meeting him head on, but found her hooves restricted. He reached her as she struggled.

He flipped her onto her back and stood over her as her struggles continued in vain. He slowly wrapped his hooves around her neck and began to choke her.

She gasped for air, struggling further. Her eyes pleaded up at him as he grinned.

His eyes locked with hers for a split second...

The wind bonds around her hooves broke and she slammed a hoof to her side, a spire of rock shooting forward and striking Atom between the eyes.

He stumbled back dazed, and AJ twisted her hooves in the dirt and the earth rose around Atom's hooves as he kneeled.

"Now Dark!", Applejack called, and Atom felt two hooves either side of his head.

Dark frowned as he began to pass a shock through his hooves into his brother's head. Atom shrieked in pain, writhing in his bonds of earth.

He continued to scream as Dark held the current.

AJ saw as Atom's mane and tail returned green, "Dark stop! That's enough!"

Dark cut the current, and AJ released Atom's bonds, as his eyes rolled back in his head and he fell backwards, motionless.

Applejack galloped over and looked at the torn and beaten stallion that lay still before her. Tears began to stream from her eyes as she buried her face in his coat.

She heard nothing from his chest...no breath...no heart beat...

*BA-BUMP*
