Man, I like your lighter stuff a whole lot more than this... I just can't imagine Equestrian ponies actually killing anypony, even evil doppelgangers from a twisted dimension. That face alone really jerks me out of the story. I'm not sure what it is about the prose, maybe it's just the subject matter, but compared to something like Calling the Shots, its feels stilted and unnatural.
I did really enjoy the Bright-Eyes and Trixie parts though.
And is this really supposed to be categorized under slice of life? Unless its a play on Slice 'n Dice...

Well man, what can I say? This is a bit of a darker world than your average My Little Pony story. There are strange ponies from an alternate universe ruled over by an iron-hoofed queen, set out to conquer and enslave. It's really hard to write a convincing "and then they had cupcakes and tea" story if you want to do something like that.
I've kept the violence to a minimum, really - there's a lot some find "objectionable" but it all really happens off-screen and so it's in reality an adventure fic first and foremost.
It's not grimdark, I really disagree there. If you want grimdark, read cupcakes or the cough. That is grimdark. This? This is adventure.
It's not intended to read like an episode, it's not intended to hobble itself to a Universal rating. I wanted there to be excitement and swordfights and explosions and danger and intrigue, so I took our favourite characters and let them run freer than the show would in hopefully agreeably similar ways.
It's not going to be for everypony, but more than 9/10 readers have thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

In that time, I will edit, recombine and then re-post. This story on fimfiction doesn't have that many comments, so it won't matter too much for the comments, but the ones made will like be on the wrong numbered chapters, as I plan to combine the first three and then shift the rest down/up (according to how you want to treat that), and post the new chapters at the end.
Chapters 9, 10, 11 will be all new, and chapter 12 may be the epilogue, depending how long things go on for.
It may, when it goes back up, be complete.

Ah yes, the infamus "Complete Rewrite". Thankfully, this story has taken so long that I will NEED to reread the whole thing ANYWAY. I honestly can't remember ANYTHING before the big fight in Equestria Prime. I'll keep an eye open for when this revised story goes Live.
This was the first fanfic I ever read, back in its first iteration in June 2011. Didn't know it had been rewritten, have to give it another go I guess! Hope it still remains as awesome as it did then!

I'm going to be forthright here; I've been burned too many times before by starting a story that's been inactive for a while and then it switching over to hiatus only to never be completed. So I need to know if this story is actually going to be completed before I start reading it, cuz I do find this intriguing.

I have completed the story, told the tale, and am done. There's more I could write, maybe even more I should, but I lack the drive. That's essential. Is this worth reading? Definitely, especially if you started it. That's why I finished it, after all.

you could write an "after" shot. a one time thing.
reveal what happened during the half year the 6 were gone, how the familys felt/reacted when the girls returned home, how the re-building is going on and if dinky will still help with the mail.
and lastly you need a "dear princess celestia" letter from twilight to cement in the moral of the story.
It's a definite good read however i am very disappointed that Discord wasn't even mentioned. Sure you brought up the concept of discord but not the character or for that matter the Estrosian copy of him. I think you should continue the story, however don't go back to the other side with the gates closed semi-indefinitely. That would just be a cop out for a continuation, what i would suggest would be to just add a time skip of a few years later. The time jump would not be for the sake of the story but rather you, because it would make the next story feel different enough that you would want to write it. And eventually should you want to you could write another story continuing the other side but again use a time jump and don't cross the bridge into the Equestria story connecting the two.

This story was started around 18 months ago. Discord as a character was nowhere to be seen, and the plot itself was finalized around 12 months ago. I should have finished writing this a year ago, basically, long before Discord even appeared. Adding him in now would necessitate a change in the story that I wasn't prepared to see through.
I hope you enjoyed it, and I am glad you think it at least as good as you did. I may come back to Estrosia, Weepy Cry and all the rest. I deliberately left it open because there are other stories to tell there, but for this story, it is done.

If you haven't written a story exploring everything with the whole "Rainbow is a noble" and all the impacts it might have on the mane 6 and their relationship, you really should. Maybe her parents die and leave her everything and she gets roped into high society again? I don't know, it's just an idea.
