It has been six months since Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor left through the Rift, drafted by the Order to become defenders of the Rifts. They were told is that they would be protecting not only Equestria, but other worlds that draw on the Rifts for magic. They were told that they were chosen because they had a grasp on magic greater then any other living unicorns. And they were told to be ready for battle.

They however were not told that the hoard they would be fighting was endless, or that their body would be changed to fight more "effectively".

Nor were they told about the War Mage they would be serving under.
