I write stories, I hope I'm getting better as I go. Watch out for unfortunate go time and Home Alone, not my best works.

Realizing that Discord could still get out someday, Celestia tries to reason with him. Sending the elements of harmony on their newest mission, their goal is too try and change his chaotic ways. However, he has a few things he wants too say as well. Also, the tags don't fit the story too well, if I could chose I'd probably say "thought provoking" is a good tag for it, and it's sort of dark/sad.

Interesting.

However that would imply that their entire lives have been nothing but lies. And they ponies that they became while "freed" were not at all the best sort.

I suppose I'll have to wait and see where you are going with this.

Very good. Moar please.

Me guess that Celestia will be overthrown in a few chapters. And I love it so far. Tracked!

Ok I’m going to go out on a limb make an educated guess at this. While each Pony has the necessary trait/virtue for their element they themselves have certain issues, demons, problem, and/or nagitive personality traits that conflict with their element. They don’t tend to face these problems instead either pushing them out of sight and out of mind, burying them in their virtue and other personality traits (ex: Fluttershy, Pinky), or exhibiting them relatively commonly but obfuscating them just enough that they are not often called out on them until it gets out of hand (ex: Rainbow, Rarity), but ultimately the same fact remains true: they don’t face their issues/problems/demons, instead constructing parts of their persona (the “outer” part of their personality) to hide from them or push them away. The elements don’t effect a complete change of personality, but rather make it far easier to bury the conflicting issues, demons, problem, and/or personality traits, but making it harder to come to terms them.

What Discord did was magically penetrate the elements barriers and force them to face some of their issues/problems/etc. and/or some of the hard questions about their given element:

Rainbow: Sadistic choice, the correct answer should have been not to play the game and to instead remember that defeating Discord would have solved both problems (the personality traits that she has problems with are: self-centeredness, inability to accept that she’s in the wrong, quick to assume that others will betray her, tendency to backstab and/or ignore others for her own gain, and low self-esteem issues).

Applejack: Sometimes the truth hurts and it’s far easier to lie to everyone… including yourself.

Pinky: Things done for your/others amusement can hurt another person.

Fluttershy: Serious repressed anger issues from being treated like a doormat.

Rarity: Urge to put her own desires before others, no matter how important.

However they were unable to come to terms with their issues/problems/etc. and their issues/problems/etc. were driven to the surface as their primary personality traits. It should be noted that Twilights problem (a strange mix of reliance on and fear or friends/relationships) was pulled to the surface as part of Discord’s overarching plan to prevent himself from being turned to back into stone.
